As my crappy Dunlop's are pretty much at their end without even a complete season on them ... just over 3700 miles and they really kinda need to be replaced soon, I am searching for a suitable replacement, enter the Pirelli line of tires - many speak well of the Scorpion, well - the only problem is they do not come in the size needed for the Tubers(170/60/17) - I know some have run the 180/55/17 but I really don't want to run wider tires, the 170/60 should corner better one would think - this brings me to the Diablo line - my debate is between the Diablo and the Diablo Strada - both available in the size I'd prefer.

Is anyone running either of these (Diablo vs Diablo Strada) ? They say the Strada is more sport touring but with performance in mind and designed for longer treadlife, how much longer will it last than the Diablo, and will it still grip as good as the Diablo, which is more sport designed.

I'd like to know treadlife, cornering ability, wet riding characteristics .. you know the usual concerns - we all want the best all around tire. I do ride a bit on the aggressive side, don't wheelie or spin the rear, but I do like the acceleration from a stop and I like to throw it around in the corners as well. (scraped pegs the other day).. I do make at least 2 longer trips a year, bike fully packed, but I don't think it's enough to warrant a specific touring tire, and I seldom ride 2 up (the wife prefers my 97 Shadow ACE VT1100 for 2 up riding)

Does anyone have any hands on with these tires that can direct me to the better choice?

Sorry for the rambling on, just want to make the right decision.

Thanks
Brian

Brian - I have posted on two other threads my impressions with the Diablo Stradas. They are not bad tires but do have their issues.

1. They do not stick as well as the Dunlops in wet or cold weather.
2. They loose traction over painted lines and tar strips.
3. They follow grooves like a bias-ply tire.

The tires do have positives though.

1. They do stick well in good conditions all the way to the point of dragging pegs.
2. They also are not as neutral as the Dunlop on center so the bike will respond quicker
3. They do have long tire life. On the Uly I was ready for my third D616 rear tire at 8300 miles. I get between 5000 to 5500 miles on the M2 with a Dunlop D205 rear. The Strada on the back of the Uly has 4400 miles and its about 2/3rd gone. I am expecting between 6500-7000 miles out of the rear. If you are wearing a D208 in about 4000 miles then you should get about the same tire life out of a Strada as I do.

I think I read your posts regarding the Strada's, I am surprised to hear they aren't as sticky as the Dunlop's though as they are supposedly supposed to do pretty well in the wet. I actually only have about 3500 miles on the Dunlop right now, and it is worn, that is why I figured there had to be better.

Overall they seem like a better choice than the Dunlop's- just curious how they compare to the Diablo (Supersport)- I am going to assume that the Diablo sticks better all the way around, just wondering then how the tread wear compares between the two, and if it was enough to make a difference because right now I am inclined to buy the Diablo's - unless they don't get noticeably more mileage than the Dunlop and at least as much as the Strada.

Thanks
Brian

I'm running Diablo Stradas on my Uly and cannot complain. With that said I have been with 'em about 500-800 miles and it's been all commuting to and from work for the most part.

Let me give you my 2 "scents". You should go with the Dunlop Qualifier tyres. They are basically replacing the 208's. Plus, they last longer, corner better, etc. Now that's a winning combination to me. Do I have them on my bike? No, mine still have tread, but, my nieghbor has been using them and he's a psycho!! Yet, his tyres are lasting longer than mine and he's a daily commuter and weekend wacko on the twisties. He loves them. Actually got the chance to ride his bike and yeah, it's a noticeable difference.

Like i said, my two cents.

Nutsnbolt - How much life is left on his rubber, and how many miles do they have ? .. your 2 cents is appreciated btw.

My main concern is that I am not even close to being done riding this year,(and in Milwaukee, that is saying something) and I would be quite brave to continue riding with the Dunlop's now .. I think a tire should run longer than the 3500 miles mine have lasted .. I need long life without sacrificing performance - dry as well as wet.
