Gday, ive had a problem with the bike not starting without the clutch pulled in, was thinking it was the common sidestand switch problem as the bike cuts out when the stand goes down. So I shorted the switch conector with a piece of wire bent into a U and put it back on same problem. Still cannot start with sidestand down and even when up must have clutch pulled in. Bike is in neutral(light on) once running all is good untill sidestand put down. Now im wondering if its got something to do with the neutral? Its got me buggered.

Isn't there a switch on the clutch (by the lever maybe?) involved in the kickstand interconnect as well? If so that may be the culprit.

there IS a switch connected to the clutch lever -- doesn't fail with the regualrity of the sidestand switch, but it DOES go south -- try hitting it with contact cleaner/WD40 first -- they've been known to come back to life

Lurch,

It sounds like I have the exact same problem. at first I thought it was that my brother and I took off my tail end to put on a fender eliminator. (it was 10 at night, so we didn't really see much that we were working on). The next morning, I couldn't get it started. I went to the HD/Buell shop and they said to check for a pinched or stripped wire. I took my back end apart again and my turn signal and brake light wires were completely stripped (must have melted or rubbed against something over time, I've only had the XB9R for about 2 months now). so I taped them up, managed to get it started after numerous tries, and took it straight to the shop. They looked at it, gave me three causes, two of which they fixed (No Charge). first was a loose clutch lever. second was loose battery terminals. The third was that the sidestand switch was going bad. Of course being a dealership, they didn't tell me about the cleaning option. So let me know how that works, before I put it in the shop for a few days. Oh, and let me know where the switch is, I had difficulty finding it when I was inspecting the bike for bad wires.
