Start with a 160 main and see how it runs. Are you familiar with Mikuni's online tuning guide? http://www.mikuni.com/fs-tuning_guide.html Lots of great info. (Message edited by Blake on March 01, 2006) |

Thanks Blake. I appreciate the links. Have a 160 in there now, with a 20 Pilot. It's ultra lean on the bottom. Just talked to Mikuni (after trying to get hold of them every day since last Friday) and they are sending out 25 & 27.5 Pilots. |

Update. Checked the compression and have 180 psi warm. Don't have a 18mm adapter for my differential gage, so I haven't done a leak down yet, but the sealing seems fine. Received & installed the proper cable bracket from Mikuni (no charge), rejetted 27.5 pilot and 165 main and put in some clean plugs. Runs better than it has ever before. Finally getting about 6" of front wheel lift around 5k in second (Waaa Hooo). I think I went a little overboard on the pilot and am going to try the 25 instead. But I'll know more when I check the plugs. The pilot air is really sensitive with 1/8 turn between lean popping back out the intake when you crack the throttle on one end and slowly loading up at traffic lights and rich popping in the exhaust on overrun at the other end. Is this typical with the Mikuni? Also, had a bit of trouble with putting the float bowl back on. The bowl O-ring "grew" and got longer. Had to tuck it in place with a small screwdriver as I screwed the bowl back on. I don't want to pull the bowl off again until I get a couple of spares. Anyone else experience this? |
