Not missin a thing...thats what I asked..I know that Hal's racing XB's have cassette/trapdoor trannys and that the photo is an XB engine case.

Karl: just use the sprocket and chain from an XB12. this will raise your overall gear ratio 8.5 percent. sent you a PM with the part numbers.

Remember this:

Always check the PARTS BOOKS as there are RETRO-FIT parts from different platforms ...

An OLD DIRT TRACKER friend of mine told me that when he was runnung STOCK CARS he would jiggle
some stock parts and come up with a real sleeper !!!

THE SAME APPLYS H-D/BUELL PARTS !!!

Zoar,
That's the Hals racing setup - for a $mall fee, they can machine the XB cases to run the XL transmission setup. I've been trying to dig up some info on the primary setup they use since it's lighter than stock and easier than swithching to a belt primary.

Panic,
Maybe lighten up and try not to be conscending? Nobody on this board deserves the tone you've been using.

Thank you very much, Matty! I've known about Hal's having some unobtainium stuff for a long time as they are the designated shop for Buell R&D stuff. I really don't understand why this is not offered from the factory unless the loss in labor charges the dealers get for splitting the cases for something as simple as a bent shift fork outweighs adding this feature. Great to know about the conversion!!

The funny part is if you look really close at the pic of the xb, you will notice that the engine sprocket is set up for a 2 row, vice a 3 row chain. Hmm, am I missing something there???

Actually, I would guess that they might still be running the three row chain, but have removed the center teeth on the sprocket for a savings in weight? The primary chain itself is pretty light as far as chains go compared to the compensating sprocket. Did I say compensating sprocket...lol

Blue - I wish I had a higher res pic. To me it looks like a single row sprocket with some drill divits to balance the rotor along with the reflection of the sprocket. I dunno! Both yours and Zoar's ideas are getting filed away for future brainstorming.

BUELLers:

OBTAINABLE

Sprocket Motor(flywhell shaft) primary 29 to 38 at $161.00 a pop ... With the 29 you get lots of low end TORQUE and with the 38 tall gearing(you
might have to hope for a TAIL WIND) ...

Sprocket COUNTERSHAFT(engine pulley rear drive belt) 27 to 30 at $185.00 a pop ... With the 27
you get low end TORQUE and with the 30 tall gearing(you might have to hope for a TAIL WIND) ...

As an example to 1997 a 29 was on the countershaft and from 1998 a 27 was on the countershaft(cheap way to bet a little low end TRORQUE !!!

$161 doesn't sound too bad. Where did you find those LaFayette? Are those the billet jobbers in the earlier link?

Thanks Buellistic, you are a wealth of knowledge!! I have been only able to find a 35 tooth aluminum engine sprocket, which may be lighter, but what I really would like is a 36 or possibly 37 tooth to get me where I want to be on top end. Like I stated before, at stock ratios in the Primary (35/56) and final (27/61), my X-1 produces 101 rwhp and 108 ft/lbs torque, so to keep my speedo correct and go up a tooth on the primary drive should enable me to gain some significant numbers on top end without really hurting me on the low end. This is all theoretical though. I wonder if just changing to the lighter aluminum sprocket would help me boost those top end mph numbers, or would they just make my rpms spin up faster?

Panic,

you stated: "One more time - there is no sprocket on the countershaft."

If there is no sprocket on the countershaft, then why does my service manual call that piece of plastic covering the final drive front sprocket a.... wait for it... "Sprocket Cover" ???? oh, and why do they call the output of the tranny a ... wait for it... Transmission sprocket? I guess that Buell must be incorrect on the terminology of their own parts...hmmm, I guess that I DO know the correct "technical terms."

"YES"

http://billetusa.com/evoindex.html

Called them today for INFO(all you'll have to do is call suppliers as the have a lot of INFO to
tell you if you ask the right "QUESTIONS" ???)...

The site did show(or "i" just could not find)about the MOTOR(flywheel shaft sprocket), but they were willing to give me INFO & prices ...

That was the site that I looked at too. The 35 tooth engine sprocket said it weighed 1.275 lbs and was lighter than stock. I wonder what the stock sprocket weighs then? I also liked the billet aluminum clutch basket that weighs less than stock... Hmm might have to look into another route here.

Let's make it easy. You show me a sprocket on the countershaft: I pay you $1,000. through PayPal.
You fail: you pay me.
Are we on? To do this, just nominate your choice of neutral party, and we each pay him the money - RIGHT NOW - and he pays the winner.
Please respond quickly, I'd like the money in 1 hour.
Or, you can save yourself $1,000. and a great deal of embarrassment by simply saying "I have no idea what I'm talking about, so I'll stop".

Has anyone tried to fit a larger engine sprocket than 35? I remember when the Evo XL used a 34, and a 35 tooth (part of the Balance Masters product) wouldn't fit either the primary case or the chain - even 1 tooth was enough that the primary adjuster was out of the loop.
The case and primary of the newer (front alternator) models is much larger ID and looks big enough for a 37 or 38, but IDT the chain won't go on.
The chain isn't exactly fragile, but I'd hate to have to add a link or 3 to accept a bigger sprocket since rivetting it doesn't look do-able.

Hey Guys Correct me if I`m wrong But IF you take a xb9 engine sprocket and chain and throw it on a xb12 will you not get a hell of alot more bottom end take off and of course you are going to lose top end speed Right???
