Anybody heard of this recall? I took my Firebolt in for the 1K and they said they are waiting on a new gasket for the inspection cover due to a recall.

Well, I looked at a new 9s on the dealer's showroom floor today, & it was weaping oil from around the bottom of the inspection cover!

5400 miles on mine and climbing, no sign of any oil or tranny fluid leaking.

Sure that wasn't water or any kind of fluid they might have sprayed to shine up the black cases. Did you smell it cause spot trans has a uniqe smell.

It was definately oil (trans fluid) & the bike only had 9mi. on the odometer. I brought it to the saleman's attn., so he could get it into the shop to be repaired before anyone else noticed it. Does anybody know if the bikes come with oil & fluids in 'em from the factory, or is this something the dealer fills upon arrival? Also, would there be any need for a tech to pull the clutch inspection cover for set up purposes? If so, the leak may have been caused at the dealer. I sincerely hope these things are not coming from East Troy that way!

i'm guessing that the sport trans is put in at the dealer.

They either put a whole quart in there (big no no) or they were just sloppy with it.

Clarification: I am speaking of the 'Clutch Inpection Cover' & not the 'Primary Chain Inspection Cover'.

I spoke with a technician from said dealer: He informed me that the bikes arrive with trans fluid & oil in them, & that they routinely pull the 'inspection cover' (Damn!... I did not verify which of the two, I just assumed since I mentioned the oil was weaping from the 'Clutch Inspection Cover' we were talking about the same one). The gasket may have gotten fouled up in that process.

Jose: If it was simply overfilled from the factory (shame on them), shouldn't the excess fluid be vented through the trans vent hose & not a gasket?

Well if they opened the clutch inspection cover and were sloppy about it, a little sport trans fluid that collects around the cover gasket seeped out below it causing the weep. THey just didn't clean it up.

I have seen Sportsters, Regular Buells, Blasts and now XB's with that weep. On the Blast/XB it's more noticeable due to the primary cover finish.

It looks bad but I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I agree that the particular bike I saw had a dealer related issue. I seriously doubt there is a recall. Besides, there are enough dealer insiders here that someone would have been able to produce the documentation by now if there was.

We may want to retitle the thread to reflect that fact, lest we unintentionally give rise to unwarranted alarm.

The NHTSA has quite rigidly prescribed requirements for communicating a recall. You can't, for instance "have one and not say so".

Harleybritt, et al,

Let's see if we can find a place to hook up for Biketoberfest. I'll be going up either Fri PM to camp for one night and return home Sat PM, or just blitz up Saturday for a day trip.

I won't be on the Buell (it's in GA). I'll probably take the K1200RS (just back from the Deal's Gap Rally I talked about.) Only one minor get-off - on a brand new bike with less than 2,000 miles.

65ks

FWIW, we had about 65 K1200's at the rally. About 15 wussed out due to some wimpy hurricane!

Sound good. One of us should start a thread maybe a week before.

My house is near Ft. Lauderdale, so it would be kinda on the way to Key West if you want to stop by for refreshments.

Hogman/Firebolt owners...

gasket weep

The two Firebolts that we saw today at the DCBRAG meeting both had weeping fluid out of this cover.

The blast shares the same cover/gasket, I don't remember seeing too many weeping clutch inspection cover gaskets on the Blasts.

Hmm......

Picked up my Bolt yesterday after having the 1K done and the Race Kit put on. Asked them in further detail what the deal was with the gasket and they said that the part # had been superseded and that there wasn't a recall, just a service advisor using the wrong terminology. Mine hadn't weeeped as of last night when I got through riding yesterday.

Love the Race Kit!!

Someone in the know please post the (2) p/n's, so there is no confusion when replacing/servicing, etc. This will help us keep the dealers honest. Thanks in advance.
