Front axle should be torqued to 39-41 ft/lbs (53-56Nm). Front pinch fasteners should be 20-22 ft/lbs (27-30Nm). Rear axle should be 48-52 ft/lbs (65-70Nm) and the pinch fasteners should be 40-45ft/lbs (54-61Nm). Bryan | ||

Noface, Let me know what you think of the new tires vs the OEM ones. I'll be looking to get a new set sooner than I think and $320+ for the OEM tires isn't looking all that appealing to me. Bryan | ||

The D220's cost me $300. Ouch! plus another $40 to mount them. The dealer wanted $180-rear and $150-front +$50 to mount the D207 replacement tires. eeeeek! If I'd have had time I would have ordered them (D220's) online cheaper, but I was kinda pressed for time, and unprepared for the rear to go flat. I picked up a nail or something punctured it. Overall the 220's don't feel any different than the stockers. But I'm not a knee dragger (yet!), so I suppose that's not really a fair comparison. I think the trade-off in soft compounds vs longevity might just be worth it. I know I did learn a very important lesson about tire pressure, which from what the guys at the local UJM shop explained why the front was "cupped". I just want them to last more than 4k miles. If they don't, even at bargain online prices, this thing is gonna break me in tires! Jody S. | ||

Jody, I'm well over 4,000 miles on my stock tires and theres still plenty of tread all around to go. Keep the pressure right! 36 front and 38 rear, at least on the stockers. I'm hoping to get about 6K out of this set, enough to last me until winter, but who knows. I'm heading for Deal's Gap in a few days and I hear the twisties there tend to eat tires alive. :-) Bryan | ||

Bryan... the bad news is that Deals Gap (actually I think the Cherhola Skyway is the real villan) eats tires at an astounding rate. 300 miles of riding there over a day and a half and I removed more rubber then I had in the previous 3000 miles of local riding. The good news, is that all that rubber will be removed from the edges of your tires, not the center, even on the back. The only time you will touch the center of your tire is when you stop for lunch or on transitions from "full pucker right" to "full pucker left".  | ||

Maybe that's why I only got 4k out of 'em.... I was at the gap 1 month afer I got the bike. Eight trips up and down the Gap. That's 176 miles of white knuckle turns! And I only had one afternoon... I didn't spend much time hangin' out at COT. Jody | ||

I got 4300 miles out of my tires. My dealer has a sale, 25% off all Dunlops in stock. So I paid 260.00 w/tax for a set of tires for my XB | ||

The OEM Dunlop D207's on XB9's are considerably different than the Retail versions. The rear OEM lasted me 3400 miles. The Retail OEM lasted me 4500 miles. (different compounds & carcass)Both wore out in the middle most. Same type of riding. The OEM Front lasted 6000 mi. Wore out the sides first. Replaced with a Retail D207 (you can see the tread pattern and profile are different). I didn't wear that one out before I switched to BT010's, but it was wearing more rapid on the sides than the oem. I've got 9500 miles on my XB9 now. The BT010's are what I am running at the Gap right now, and they are wearing much better than the Dunlops would have. I like the feel of the BT010's better, but that's my pref. The Cherhola Skyway IS the culpret, just stop and look at the surface up close. Even worse for wearing tires is 348 in N. Georgia. The new pavement on the Dragon is not as abrasive. |
