Hello all, Long time no post, well I called the nallin guys like a month ago to get some quotes on fixing the S1....and to my surrise, no one returned the msg...I gave all my info, told them I would like to talk to someone about them building a motor for me....NOTHING....Guess they got a lot going on..SO needless to say the bike is not running correctly yet. I think i will start taking the upper end apart then and see what I can see. I really wanted to hear back from aaron or some one who could really give me good info (that a lamer can understand) and set me in the right direction for getting this resolved and getting some more HP out of the old girl....guess it was just not to be....Booohoooo for me... | ||

Thanks for the help getting me in touch with Aaron. I figured I would call there one more time before making any other plans. Right now I need to figure out what the noise is, I have one guy from harley saying it could be piston slap, and another guy who is saying it is either that or maybe a rocker? I don't know anything about it. I am willing to put some more money into it, but want it to be right. I could more then likely assemble something, but I feel better knowing someone who has done it a few times is working on it. Something about me working on my own stuff gives me a weird feeling when I am riding the bike hard... | ||

Thanks again for the help guys, I got an email from Justin at Nallin. I gave him some info and I am waiting to hear back now. As for Tracie and her riding course, well it seemed to go very well, I went down and watched most of the long day of riding. She was doing very well, no drops or anything even twitchy. Passed the written test only missing a couple. Then the riding portion, I don't know what happend, I did'nt go down that day to watch. Thought it would make her nervous, anyways, long and short she did'nt pass it. They said she was going to slow threw part of the test. Tracie says they were letting others go through again that were going slow. But the instructor told her she was find and to go on to the next test. Later, after all the instructors leave they give you the results. I saw something similar when I was doing my test at the DMV, for the braking they had people who did it like 3 times to get it right. I never asked her if it was in the breaking area, but anyways, she is going to retest the riding part on my birthday, Nov 13th. That was the soonest retest they had. LAME if you ask em. you go, you pay $120 or whatever, and then you fail for going to slow through a section? Anyways, ok, so I need some help deciding what I should do with the S1. Anyone wanna buy one? Justin From Nallin says they see lots of bike with over 30k that have wrist pin bushing issues? Anyone have experience with this? If you owned a bike that you had already put a bit of money into it (new tank, twin tail, corbin custom twin tail seat (not even on bike yet)Chin Fairing (also not even mounted yet, but repainted to match and including all the mounting hardware) repainted body parts, carbon fiber replacements, yodude compartment, carb work, dyna2000 ignition (not on bike yet), new tires, new rear spocket/chain. (Side note for anyone thinking of changing to a chain drive, NO ONE makes a rear sprocket that will fit on the PM wheels, at least this is what I have been told by Harley, You have to buy a renthal and have someone custom mill the center out for you. The sprocket is like $60 and the same for the customizing, unless you know someone. (If you know someone let me know, I have not had it done to my New sprocket yet and need to.) Oh yeah did I mention I have not even owned the bike a year....What would you do. Sell it? Just do a basic repair of what is needed? Spend 3K on Nallinizing? Keep in mind I cant go with out a bike, so I would be replacing with another buell. | ||

S1, it's a tough call. If you were a mechanical wizz with shop and tools and time, you could tear it down and probably fix it without a huge expense. I sense that's not you, however. If it were me, in your shoes, I'd probably test the waters for a sale/trade as-is. You're not gonna get your money back no matter what. Limiting your losses and moving on might be the best route for you. Tracie could always just go down to the DMV and take the riding test. She doesn't HAVE to go back to school. Too bad she didn't have Roc for an instructor that day. He'd have got her thru. | ||

I think that in Washington, passing the Motorcycle Safety Course automatically gets you a M/C endorsement on your Drivers License. And I agree with you, passing the MSC and not getting your endorsement IS lame! A suggestion: Ride your bikes over to the Drivers License place on a Sunday when the place is closed, and practice riding the course a few times. Then take the drivers test again. It's JMHO but, I really don't think the drivers test has much to do with actually riding a motorcycle, but it's still the test that you have to pass to get the endorsement. I mean, if you're supposed to get the bike up to 20 mph and then stop with your front wheel inside of the painted square then you have to get the bike up to 20 mph and ............ You get the idea. The best way to pass a test is to practice the test. As an aside, it was raining when I took my M/C endorsement test and the little tar snakes in the parking lot were slicker than elephant snot. I got my brand new Y2K M2 up to maybe 15 mph and gently put on the brakes and promptly fell on my air box and right shoulder. The cop guy was amazed. He told me that I hadn't even gotten up to proper speed and was decelerating so slowly he thought I would over run the painted square. "And then, BAM! You fell!" "No s**t!" sez I. "Your f**king tar strips are a legal liability" sez I. "You passed the test" sez he. "Thank you oh so f**king much, I've been riding bikes for 30 blinkity-blank years and I know more about rideing bikes than you do, etc, etc." sez I. "Now, now. Don't press your luck." sez he. I did PT for my shoulder and replaced my stock bread box air cleaner thingy with a chrome plated Hyper-something-or-another and lived happily ever after. Passing a MSC exempts you from the riding test only; you still have to take the DMV's written test for an endorsement. Cool thing is that the MSC entitles you to an automatic "3" (750cc+) endorsement. | ||

Ok, I succumed to the dark side. I put my deposit down on my new M2:  My 1995 Speed Triple will be on consignment at Cascade Motors. They only charge a 6% consignment fee if you buy a new bike from them. It costs that much just to advertise a bike for sale. I do believe I may need at least the flyscreen though. I guess now I'm a true RAT. (But I still have my 2001 M2L, unless somebody can love her more than I do.) | ||

Branden, I think you should consider: (a) you like the bike. So if you replaced it, you could replace it with one the same and still use all those parts. However, you may just be starting with another unknown, after losing money selling the first if you disclose its repair needs. I'd say keep it and fix it if you're sticking with the brand. (b) How much to invest in the repair? Just re-ring or straighten the bores and go 5 thou over for the cost of pistons? Simple valve grind and stem seal replacement or go aftermarket heads? How fast can you afford to go? Either way, you should be good for another 30k of adequate performance and reliability. How many years will it take to rack up that mileage? Four or five? You just have to make a decision on your performances desires now that you will be happy with for a while. There's no point in fixing it low-budget now, then deciding next year you want more power. Look at it as a four year decision. After that time, the decision will come again with more wear on the assorted parts that will make a crate motor from Zippers or somewhere look interesting. That's my perspective on my Sportster, anyway. Infinitely rebuildable as long as the basic frame holds out. Cheaper than trading in for a new bike every few years. | ||

Well, would you believe, since the last time I posted I was waiting to hear back from Justin S @ Nallin Racing about questions, price, availability. Well really I had already been waiting a day, but anyways, Still no word back from them!!! Sorry to the Nallin guys, but they are lagging if you ask me. They are lucky they have a good name on here and Steve as an endorser, or I would be looking to get my stuff else where. This is getting Bad. I mean, at least email me? I'm not asking for over night service or anything, just reply back. I spent a bit of time composing my last detailed email to them, asking questions, pricing and what not and................ Anyways, I'm not on here to bash them, just voice an opinion and get suggestions from my fellow buellers. (all that is, except "Think Triumph"  hehe Thanks for your support Bob. Sporty, Thanks for taking the time to get to know my needs and help out. I really love the bike, I love how I have it setup now. (got a new corbin seat that is bad) I do like the newer bikes also, but don't really want to spend the 8k on one. I still have not done anything else with the bike, other then have some people listen to it. Paradise Harley says for them to take it apart and diagnose it, then if it does need the bore, pistons, ect. I would be looking at "Around" $1,100-$1,500. I would rather just do something with the 1250 kit if this is the case. As you all know I have to travel far to where the bike is currently stored, so I don't know how long it would take me to investigate it myself? You do have to take the motor out of the bike to be able to get into the rockers and such right? I know, I know, I could look in the manual, but that is with the bike...hehe Anyways, if I could get some info back, I could move forward with something.... | ||

S1, Have you checked locally for someone to do your head work? There has to be some real talent locally. My advice to you is to keep the Bike in stock form and running good. I see know reason for having expensive work done out of state and dealing with logistics, E-mails phone calls and let downs. Ask around for a known Harley builder and use the local guy for getting the scoot running (In stock Form) good and reliable. The local guy will stand by his work and you wont be bound to sending things out of state. (Nallin does great work) but so does many others. If you were trying to extract tons of HP, then ya, by all means go with Nallin. If you want to ride every ride and have fun, just (GET THE THING DONE LOCALLY!) Or, there is the Triumph thing. S1, Bob is right, as always. Joy Farmer could probably tell you who to trust in Buell engine rebuilds in the Portland area. She has more Buell miles than anybody I know. She also visits all the shops as a Tucker Rocky dealer. Ask Loni for Joy's cell and trust what Joy tells you. | ||

Man - I am so jealous. I love the new 05 speed triple. I wish I would have wrecked my bike later in the year! DOH - I mean I wish I still had sweet pea! Loni- I would love to ride, however this weekend is little Cody's bday - he will be 9 - I can't hardly believe that I will have a 9 yr old. So needless to say we will be busy doing stuff with the little man. Besides I am not sure that my butt ever fully recovered from the day we road back from Canada. Matt: No. I've just got a crush on Sue Bird is all. I can't afford to go to those kinds of things and even if I could, I have to get up too early (and I'm too darn old) to be staying out that late. Poor poor pitiful me. All: What a great day, huh! I rode my bike to work today and I took the long way home. The VERY long way home. I rode a total of 186 miles, through Elbe, up to Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier and back home via Enumclaw on some of the best country roads you've ever seen. The last car I passed on the way into Enumclaw was a Park Ranger. He was outside of his jurisdiction area and off work but his red and blue lights still worked. He gave me a strict verbal warning and told me he had reported my information to the WSP, so I'd better be careful on the way home. Yes Sir, thank you very much. Bye. Zoom! And from the Not That It Really Matters Dept.: I averaged 47 mph for that trip, counting all the traffic, National Park entry fee stop, road construction on the way to Paradise, potty stop at Paradise, traffic stop outside of Enumclaw, and gas stop in Tacoma. Not bad I'd say. Didn't see much scenery but had a lot of fun. And averaged 49.0 mpg on that tank full of Union 76 gas. | ||
