Bob Feather made it to see me and stayed long enough to play a little guitar with me. He was riding a Kawasaki V Twin that belongs to Kawasaki Corp and has to have it in Irvine California and write a review of his trip on it by press time. He will come back to KC and we can get a group pic done when he does.
He was scheduled to do a photo shoot with Indian Larry next week and was real sad to hear the bad news.
Bob is a real class act, photo work includes OCC bikes, Indian Larry Bikes, Paul Yaffe, Billy Lane and lots of stuff featured in American Iron.
He gave me a wink and a nod about seeing something we will all like coming out of HD soon.
He was not at liberty to divulge exactly what but said Buell riders would probably like what they had in R&D right now.

Well...

I have an excuse for not coming out to play tonight.

I am second runner up to the Tripper stroke fest... or coulda be an possible issue.

I am on blood pressure meds... and apparently I have out stressed them. Today I hit 180/110 at work and other than the public health nurse, me, and a hand full of court security officers who were taking bets on whether I would "stroke out" before I convinced management I had a serious health issue... and was allowed to leave work... NO ONE CARED!

It was a very stressful day... finally got to the doctor... the doctor about crapped when I told the story of having to fight to get sick leave to get the problem addressed... came closer when my PB read as 180/110... did an ekg to try and determine if the mild chest pain was a preview of a heart attack... slightly abnormal but not a heart attack... Not a fun day... but far from what Tripper experienced.

It probably didn't help me when the CSOs saw me take my blood pressure between rounds with my boss and they saw what it was, and made comments like "Oh my gawd... you are about to stroke out!" I think they were worried one of them might have to do rescue breathing and cpr if I woulda stroked out or had a heart attack in front of them!

Anyway... convinced my boss I should really see a doctor ASAP... scared the crap out of Sharon who rushed home to go with me to the doctor, a second confrontation with my boss basically telling him "there are not going to be any issues with me following doctors orders and taking a coupla days off... are there?"... assured "No problem, your health is more important than work." (Sharon really enjoyed that part of the show after the doctors visit)... bigger dosage... new meds... a five day weekend... and the chest pains are gradually decreasing... the head ache is gradually going away... and my blood pressure is slowing going down. Other than that... I am having fun!

So... I just do regular non stressful things for the next 5 days, don't even think about the office... let the meds do their thing... chill!

SO... I'll be around the house for the most part through Monday... so if anyone is in the neighborhood you are welcome to stop and say hi... and hear a plethora of bad words used to describe management at my office! Oh yea... a beer might help me relieve stress (wink, wink, nod, nod!)

Tripper still holds first place... even though I am older!!!

(formerly dasxb9s - still no heart attack but if you woulda seen by boss late this afternoon ya mighta thought I was a carrier though)

I am feeling better this morning... headache is still hanging on (I have had it all week, so it might just be an unrelated routine mild migraine), my chest now just feels like it is sore like from working out and over doing it. I just had a "What now" moment. While writing this I took my blood pressure... it was 161/121... took it a second time...149/93... so something must have snafu'ed the first try. It took weeks to get my meds correct when I first went on blood pressure meds... I am hoping it won't be like that this time getting them readjusted.

At times like this I typically get angry... not scared... a few years back when I had a major airway problem that landed me in the ER for 3 hours after a ambulance ride... (being worked on the entire 3 hours) I was so fu**ing pissed I was not getting better (had pneumonia when it happened).

Actually the story gets better. My RX for my meds was expired and I needed to see the doctor before new scripts would be issued. I run out of meds Friday, and have had a headache all week... and one of them is atenolol which when being taken off you have to gradually decrease the dose over a two week period or risk "major heart problems or death". So... in theory and practice over the last 19+ years if sick leave is submitted for doctors appointments... it is automatically approved.

Well guess who is the first one in 19+ years to have the request disapproved. It went something like this. "Here is your leave slip. It has been disapproved for the reason written in. If you have a problem with that, see the Chief!" She then turned around and walked away. I filed a grievance that afternoon and it was ignored until yesterday morning.

I got up yesterday morning feeling like sh** and my heart was pounding. My PB was 168/95, just before I left it was 154/95. I had emailed to both my bosses a cut and paste from the drug company warning that the atenolol caused issues of you suddenly went off of it the night before. I got to work and forwarded a copy to HQ to try and get them to step in and tell my boss to back off. I called the Public Health Unit and asked at what point my PB was an immediate danger and was told when the bottom number was 100 or higher. Took my BP and it was 178/107 when my boss called me to discuss my unreasonable request... Oh I forgot... the medical leave was disapproved because we were too busy. Read power trip and employee control. I had problems getting an appointment and just heard from my doctor and said that was the only date available before next week... so I could not give them more notice or change it to another day this week.

In my bosses office it was very confrontational and controlling. Basically told find another day less busy... and if it was this week "They would try and accommodate me so I could go" He by then knew of the issues of discontinuing the meds suddenly from the email. I told him I called the health unit and that my bp was 178/107 and they told me I should not be at work. He did not bat an eye. I was told to get an appointment a different day and find out exactly how long I would be gone from work. I explained it didn't work that way... the doctor was not on my payrole... and I did not dictate when I could get in. Here is a good part...

I went to the 10:00 court I was scheduled to cover. Took my BP just before hooking up the prisoner... it was 176/109. Got back from court... called the health unit to advise what my BP was and to brief them of how the office was handling this... called my doctor before that and could not get past the answering machine... I was documenting with various witnesses what my condition was and that the office was uncaring and having me do my work day as if it were of no concern. The Public Health nurse told me I needed immediate care... which I already knew... but I wanted her opinion to relay to my boss. Was told to go get medical attention. Stopped at my desk and filled out a leave splip for the remainder of the day. Was going to go to the doctors office and if I could not get anything done immediately my next stop was going to be the ER.

When to my supervisor... she was no place to be found... went to my boss and gave him the leave slip and told him I really needed to leave and told him what my BP was. He gets all snooty and curtly asks me how I know what my BP was, I tell him I have a portable BP machine... tell him again about the opinion of the health unit nurse... same attitude asks... what health unit... I tell him the one run by the U.S Government that this agency contracts with to take our annual physicals. He has a "you are trying to manipulate me look on his face" and just sets there with the leave slip in his hand... thinks about it for almost a minute before he signs it. Then he makes a statement/question... "You will be at work tomorrow won't you?"... I respond I don't know, it depends on what my doctor tells me. He gets a sh**y look on his face like I am trying to screw with him. He says... well if not... I am gonna need a doctors note. Technically I am not required to submit a doctors note for anything less than four days off... but I don't argue that point considering my BP.

I had already planned what I was going to do if he refused to sign the slip and release me... tell him I would be sitting out side his office to wait for the ambulance as I was calling 911. It did not get to that.

Drove home... called Sharon on the way... switched cars... not allowed to use a government vehicle for personal use... go to the doctors office... tell them the Alice's Restaurant type story of what has occurred... forget to tell them about the chest pains (still very angry and that was distracting me)... by now I am so pi**ed I can't look back far enough to even see pi**ed. I am told I can get in at 2:15. Go back home... lay down... Sharon arrives... go to doctor... BP 180/110 three or four times they take it... do ekg... compare it to one taken 3 weeks ago... looks slightly different. Both faxed to cardiologist... says not a heart attack... but something has changed slightly... and though not an issue... not normal compared to the other. Told to stay off work... get in car... tell Sharon we are going for a ride.

Go to my bosses office... ask him if he has a problem with what my doctored ordered... because if so I wanted to know right this second... and if not I did not want to ever hear another word. Told him he needed to make a decision for me... do I do what my doctor tells me... or do I come to work tomorrow and the day after. Tell him that if we are that busy... I will ignore the doctors orders and come to work both days... all he has to do is ask. He get all puppy dogged faced and back peddles at light speed... gives speech about how my health is more important... and this office can get by without me so I can take care of my health issues.

Have I ever told you guys that I hate my office??? This is yet another example of why!!!

Derek... not to worry... I plan on being around to help you restore that dirt bike.

Sam... any of my beer in your frig will work. But seriously... when do you want me to have Sharon set the lawn mower out?

Don't worry about it... my riding mower has more HP than you can handle!

Really being serious... I will soon feel good enough and have cabin fever bad enough to mow Sunday or Monday... if not before... I hope to get out on the XB sometime this weekend.

Anyway... I'll be home most of the time... anyone is welcome to stop by and we can BS down in the shop.

I have 238 more days.

My life insurance went up from $42.00 every two weeks (for 5 times my base salary) to $66.00 when I turned fifty. I had been joking in the office that I should just up and die for spite and to get the money and not have to pay the higher rate! That plus the law suit my family coulda filed after documenting the failure to act upon my health problem... and I coulda had a custom painted casket with some cool Buell graphics.

Let's see... an XB6ftunder. Dead in every sense!

I would think the office would have cared more... you see if I retire or die... they lose my position and they are short a deputy they won't be allowed to get a replacement.

That place would have to improve 10 fold to just be fu*ked up!

I am gonna start looking for something after the first of the year... I can retire in late APril 2005... but have to roll straight into a job to make up the diff between my retirement check and my bills. Maybe bad timing buying the XB and a house so close to retirement. Oh well... it will all work out... always does!

My popbox key stock ignition fried on me today.
I replaced it with a Sportster key setup.
Buell replacement ignition-$112+tax
Sportster Ignition-$63.01 including tax. Plus a little time spent splicing the Sportster ignition onto the Buell harness plug.

I doubt that we will be there that early. I went year before last and was able to sign up for the XB and Vrod waiting list. I had no trouble getting a spot... I don't know since they both aren't the hot ticket if they will still do the sign up for a specific time... or first come stand in line like the other stuff.

It is hard to get everyone around that early, especially if Sharon is coming too!

I'll look for you!

I would like to go, I will try to meet ya around 7:00 or so at the plant. I will be driving on four wheels though, (sigh!).

Look forward to it, never got the tour before either, would like to see it if possible. But definetly looking forward to getting back on two wheels, thats for sure.

Dennis, the guy who bought my bike would like to meet you some day, he lives in Blue Springs though, but close enough he will ride whenever you want, he rides a hell of alot more than I did thats for sure. He also want's to take the rider course if anyone wants someone to go with.

If so let me know and I'll hook ya up.

By 1 pm you'll be able to smell all that leather a mile away.

Tours are usually on Friday only... I doing think they have the lobby open to sell t-shirts and display products on Saturday as well.

That is the way it has been for the past...

Gravedigger...

I am happy to report I do not need your services... at least not yet. My blood pressure has stabilized and normalized finally today. My chest still feels tight/sore... but that might be partially because of lumping around all weekend long. The long weekend is nice... but this laying and sitting around is about to drive me out of what little mind I have. I go back for a follow up Dr. visit Oct. 1, to check my liver function and all the heart/bp related stuff. I went on cholesterol meds too. I go back to work Tuesday.

Since I was climbing the walls... since Sam did not show up to bring me beer and mow my yard... since some farmer looking guy knocked on my door yesterday afternoon and asked if he could mow and bale my yard... I got the Toro lawn tractor out this evening.

I mowed my yard and the yard of the 200 year old man that lives next door. Actually I had to go over both yards twice! It didn't kill me... and my bp is normal... so the meds must have fixed at least part of the problem.

SO... assuming I don't croak before your trip into our big city... I will do my best to attend the evening at the dumpster! Hopefully Sharon will be available that night... it will be nice to see ya all again!

I should have both T shirts and patches at Bikers for Babies. I will also have them in my bike bag with me at the Harley Open House, although I will be low key about selling them there to avoid any hassles from the mother ship.

Is there a meeting this coming Thursday? Also moving to a different venue than McBrides has been mentioned, how about something not quite so far south, maybe 75th Street Brewery, River Market Brewery or how about Dare's in Westport or I might suggest a very bike friendly bar, PJ's at 10923 Shawnee Mission Pkwy
