Ray- I would not have drove it home. We had a car once that did something similar and it was an issue with the starter, that some how ended up screwing with the alternator and before we knew it we lost all power and were stranded at the side of the road.

Will be interested to see what you did. Inquiring minds want to know.

As for the starter / kickstand / logic system / keyless entry system / etc. etc. etc. :

Everything about the bike was normal except that I didn't need to use the starter button. The starter didn't continue to run when the motor was running, so the starter didn't run when I used the clutch to shift gears.

So, do I ride it home or call my son to come get me?

When I get it home, what do I look at first?

One Month Ago:

My wife and I were in Greece, in Athens and on the island of Hydra.

On the Acropolis, in front of the Parthenon

A bigger view of the Parthenon

On the beach

The girl behind the see-through blue chair is topless as are the two women in front of me. Please, no rude comments about my gut or neon white legs.

Ray - you didn't have to go all the way to Greece to find topless woman. Or was that the only way you could get your wife to agree to you and the topless woman?

Looks like a neat place to visit.

Ray,
I'm guessing that your headlight circuit shorted to the start button circuit....that way it had to go through all the safeties...BUT...you discovered it was either the high or the low beam shorted, so ya flipped the headlight switch the other way and rode 'er home. When you got home, you took apart the control assy. and or harness and found the short...

Hello all,

Well we hope to have the pictures we took developed soon. Been busy with other stuff.

Shotgun, I am going to go out and get your jets for sure today, do you want to meet up tonight?

Roc, same with your clutch tool, want to meet up so I can give it back? I think I owe you a beer or two for the use of the tool too.

You guys are pretty good.

I rode the bike home without incident, also without headlights, and took the little black plastic switch box on the right side of the handlebar apart and filled it up with WD-40 and that seemed to do the trick.

Either the started button switch was dirty and became stuck in the "Start" position, or I jiggled the bare wire(s) just enough that they no longer short the system. Either way, I'm on the road again.

To be honest though, I was getting kind of fond of my magic starter button / clutch lever. It was a pretty cool starter system once you got used to it.

Theresa, nice hearing from you. Glad to hear that both you and Chuck will be at Border Raid. How do you like Colorado Springs?

Well we finally made it home last night. What an adventure. We left Fresno Sunday morning. Chris driving the truck and me riding my Harley. For me it was a boring ride, until we got into the mountains around the San Luis Res. We found a great place to stay right on the beach in Monterey Bay. As we were debating weather to spend the $$ for the room Chris saw dolphins, and otters swimming in the water, and that decided that! For the next 2 mornings they greeted us with thier beauty, and wonder. After unpacking we went and drove 17 mile drive by Carmel. Boy would I die for a place there. Beautiful homes, right on the beach. Bummer was no motorcycles allowed unless you lived there! I think we should all get together and rent a place for a month and show them! Monday we walked Fishermans Warf, and Cannery Row. Returning to the motel we were planning on staying there until we decided to take a ride to Carmel, and then to Bubba Gumps on the waterfront for dinner. Great food. Tuesday we packed up early for the travel north. I had two things I really wanted to do 1) Ride my Harley across the Golden Gate Bridge, 2) Ride Hi-Way 1. Chris took pictures of me riding across the bridge. What a trip. After getting over the bridge I was following him and he missed the turn off for 1. Jim we could of stopped and said hello after all! Well, Chris being the loving husband he is cut across on 12, putting me back on 1. I have to say I really love this man! He drove the truck allowing me to ride, and took special attention to what I really wanted to do. I rode 1 all the way to Fort Bragg (approx 300 miles) where we loaded the Harley and spent the night. That left Weds. for getting home. I have to tell you all this: If you ever get the chance to ride Hi-Way 1 from San Francisco to Rockport DO IT!!! These roads put SPLASH and Border Raid to shame. The scenery, is outstanding and I gaurntee you will love the roads. As for me riding home the whole way, Weds. would of been 550 miles and I know I could never do that many. Never did make it to the Corbin Factory. But I did love the adventure we took.

Loni, glad you're both home safe and sound. much of the route you describe above we did last year during Four-Play, and it is indeed sweet. and you REALLY oughta see Cannery Row (and Bubba Gump's) on Bike Night during Laguna Seca some time. where did you stay in Monterey?

Ahhh well yesterday I got to feel what it is like to loose the rear tire at over 80mph.

There I was going out to Molalla to get shotgun's jets for him. I start getting of the side of the bike for a 30mph left hander when the rear of the bikes starts moving side to side on me...Oh what a feeling it is too, anyways, I thought I was going to go down. I remember thinking, this is the one, I am not going to make this corner. lucky for me there were no oncomming cars, so I used that lane as well. I came out of the corner ok, but the rear wheel was still tracking sideways. I was trying to stear but not to much, the ditch was coming closer and closer, finally the bike came to a stop in the dirt just before the ditch. WHew........ I looked back and saw a nice hole in the rear caused by a block of those construction staples that are all glued together.

Lucky for me also I stopped where I did because in about another 50 yards i would have lost all cell phone and not even been able to call someone. SO I made the call and about 35 minutes later help arrives and picks me and the bike up. (thanks Ted) nobody here knows Ted but Im going to thanks him here anyways...We get the bike on his trailer and head back to his place. I get there and ask him if he would take me to salem to cycle sport and get a tire and what not, he agreed luckily for me. We get the cycle sport and they start putting the new tire on the bike. Well when I got there I noticed that the rear sprocket (my bike has been converted from belt to chain) has started to wear out on me. I go and ask if they have one to replace it, of course they dont. So a about a half hour later they come out and tell me, sorry we cant balance this wheel and tire..I say why, and they proceed to tell me that the rear wheel on my bike (PM's)are too wide for the balancer they have??...can you believe it...well wait it gets better...so I say...uhh ok, I guess put it back on and I will get it balanced later...they say ok...about 20 minutes later they came back and say, we are sorry but we think we some how broke a tooth of the sprocket.....NICE...well, I said, it is ok since I was trying to replace that anyways. Plus you all don't even have one to replace it with so really there is nothing that can be done.

SO I get a replaced tire, that is not balanced and now I have a missing tooth on the rear sprocket....GOTTTA LOVE IT. But the good news is, Im not hurt and I didnt sit alone on the side of the road all day.

Side note, cyclesport is pretty good with tire prices and install rates...I think the tire was like $130 and the install, wheel on the bike, was only $25. No charge for breaking teeth off your sprocket, no discount either. Also no discount for not being able to balance the wheel and tire.

Oh yeah and in the heat of all this, I forgot to grab the Jets for Shotgun while I was out there...lol...so today I am going to make the trip again for them. Hope it goes better this time.

Ferris, We stayed at the Beach Resort (Best Western). Nice place. I sure wish we could ride those roads someday with a group. Did not like some of those corners with no gaurd rails! I have to say it is one of the best roads I have ever been on. Thanks for sugesting we go that way! Sure would of liked to meet up with you, maybe next time.

Sitting here waiting for Chris to get home with his new toy. Don't know where he is going to park it! Garage already has 4 bikes, my car and a scooter! Will let him fill in the details.......

Loni, Denise has a new nickname, "Ferris-in-training", earned while we carved our way up Hwy 1 toward Monterey on our way to Laguna.

we were continually immersed, it seemed, in packs of various and sundry snarling sportbikes, all headed the same direction like legions of liquid-cooled lemmings, which whipped my wrist into a throttle-wringing frenzy, and in so doing i managed to knock BOTH her feet off the rear foot pegs in the Cal Coastal twisties as we sliced and diced and generally behaved like the Hooligans we are.

yep, sure do like Hwy 1. : )

Jerry: What happened to the "Ferris Bueller" name tag on the right side of the page?

A while ago I got into a little trouble with Blake and he took my posting privileges away until I promised to behave myself. My other option would have been to start a new identity. Is that what you did? What's the story?

Ray, there's no sordid story to tell, just got a wild hair up my arse and decided to change names is all. it's humorous, as some to this day have no idea what my real name is, and some these days aren't quite sure whether to call me Ferris, or Jerry, or late for dinner.

just don't call me Ray. (kidding! : ) )

Getting Tracie into the class is going to be hard, she works all the days they have the classes. She has been taking off a lot of work in the last few months with getting married, hunnymoon, splash, and she also already took of the days for Boarder Raid. I was really hoping she would be on her own bike by then, but that is not looking good at this time. She is saying she still wants to go though...thong seat and all...that is the spirit....And then I said, hunny you know Bob is going to be there...she thought a second and said she was going to go anyways....LOL..well the wife is calling for me to go to bed...gotta go

Madgaz made it back to Australia after a great visit to Portland/Forest Grove. A big thankyou to Steve for his hospitality and next time I'll make sure I have time for a ride and a beer.
While over there i rang Nelson and Terry of at the Buzz. I will be ringing to keep them up to date regarding silly things here in Oz so keep your ear out for that. Its now the middle of winter here and not much riding to be done. In one month the weather warms up and the events start in earnest. I'll keep you all posted.
