Yeah I'm pretty happy with it. When I first put the Jardine can on it was running extremely lean. I even bought a quiet core for the pipe to try to slow the airflow down until I had the money for The ECM. I didn't know if the bike would compensate for it so I figured I'd give it a try. No luck. I ordered the ECM specific for the Jardine and it has been smooth as glass ever since.

Loud - That burst of power that you mentioned around 5k? I've had that since driving it off the dealer floor. 13k miles later it's still there but not quite as apparent...it's a bit smoother across the RPMs. I really don't like the idea of losing low-end power though. I'm really curious how the Erik Buell Racing ECM will work on my bike.

H2O - I have the K&N high-flow air filter but still have the stock exhaust -- with the EVA still working fine. I've heard that some people have modded the EVA to stay open all the time as kind of a poor-man's upgrade for more exhaust flow throughout the range. I'll keep things as is and see how it works first.

Sounds like the ECM was definitely a good upgrade for you though and most everyone else that has it, so I'm anxious to get it! It shipped yesterday and should be here Monday/Tuesday -- in the middle of all this crappy rain. grrrrrr....

Since when did Ohio turn into the Amazon rain forest?

It's a minimal loss of power and there is such low end available on my bike, that I never missed it at all. It has a much harder hitting powerband now, totally worth the tradeoff , in my opinion.

Blue Ridge Parkway Ride Invitation

A non-Bueller buddy and I are planning to hit the top half of the BRP this summer. Two summers ago we did the Tail of the Dragon and the lower half of the BRP, so this summer we want to do the upper half and the Skyline Drive.

We're planning on 4 days & 3 nights over June 23-26, the weekend before July 4.

If anyone's interested in joining the ride, you're more then welcome. We will be camping 2 of the 3 nights on the Blue Ridge.

Here's a link to the route that we're planning. Just let me know if you want to join the ride.

Thump-

The lower portion of the Blue Ridge is better than the upper. I did the whole thing with some friends and the tail of the dragon in four days and had a blast! tons of miles though! 8hrs+ each day riding.

Sounds like a fun trip. I haven't ridden the Skyline portion yet.I'd love to though. I have ridden the lower portion and the area round Asheville is epic.

Unfortunately for this trip, but fortunately for me, Mid Ohio has a two day trackday 27-28, I'll be there, too close for the BRP trip. Thanks for the offer!

Arctic - The lower portion of the BRP and the Dragon was certainly an awesome ride when we did it. I've heard others mention that it's better then the upper portion as well. But we want to experience the entire route ourselves, along with the Skyline. Plus we like to ride different routes rather then doing the same thing over and over again.

I did put another route together that will take on the Dragon again but also hit many of the other local riding roads around the area -- specifically, Cherohala Skyway, Wolf Pen Gap, Suches Run, Blood Mountain Run, the Richard B. Russell Scenic Hwy, Warwoman Road and finally Moonshiner 28. Basically, almost every recommended riding road around the Dragon!

Here's the riding map of that one

It will be another 3-nighter with camping 2 of those nights. But no date planned out for this one yet. Maybe in the fall but more likely next summer.

Loud - Sorry you can't make it out. Maybe next time! But I'm sure you'll enjoy the track day at Mid-Ohio!

Thump, that's a great route for next year's ride. The Cherahola is one of my favorite roads, epic in everyway. Scenery, road quality,wildlife,danger..it's all in there. I went across there last fall, at night , in a torrential downpour, temp fell into the high 30's at altitude, thick fog, just an epic ride.

And , yeah, I'll enjoy the trackday, thanks.

Squid, I don't want to sway your thoughts, but personally, I'd rather push my Buell than ride a Harley.

Any group rides planned this spring?

Actually, we are doing a ride to the "Blessing of the Bikes" in Dayton in just a couple weeks -- Sunday, May 15. I think I nominated myself to lead that ride but I haven't done a route yet. Guess I better get that done here shortly -- unless you or someone else wants to. :-)

Mike F. (MikeF5000) likes to puts rides together too, but I haven't heard much from him lately. He may be busy with the new house.

But since you spoke up...doesn't that mean you just nominated yourself to put a Spring ride together? :-)

Cool Neil! Looking forward to that ride too!

As for the Blessing of the Bikes, here's a tentative route I just threw together.

The wife and I will probably head to Yellow Springs afterward, so I figure we can all ride TO Dayton together and then people can be on their own and decide individually when they want to leave, or hook up with their own group for the ride back.

The event opens at 10am with the actual blessing at 1pm. So here's the plan:

- Kickstands up on Sunday, May 15 @ 9:30am in AD Farrows parking lot (Northstar location)
- 2.5 hour ride via backroads to Dayton's Welcome Stadium, Lot D - puts us there about Noon
- Blessing is at 1pm
- Break up and ride back on your own or with others

Everyone that's planning on going, please speak up so we have a list (and don't leave anyone behind who may be running a few minutes late) and also let me know if this all looks good to you. If there's a consensus to meet up earlier, I'm fine with that too.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I can't do it. Seriously, the last 2 rides that I led, both had riders go down. I've sworn off leading groups. Seems I pick either roads that are too technical,I ride them too fast, or possibly a combination of both.

Can't attend the May 15 ride, I have a a business trip that weekend. Not my thing anyhoo.

Well, maybe someone else will offer to lead a spring ride??? Anyone...Bueller, Bueller?

I received an email from Jeff Fuller (racerhed) this morning. Jeff works with Todd Karam with running the Moto Series (formerly Fast Trax). He's offered a $20 discount for anyone that signs up for a track day on Saturday, May 14 or Monday, May 16. As I recall the cost used to be $150. Looks like it's come down to $125, and Jeff is offering it to COBRA members for just $105 per day for those two days!!

If you're interested in signing up or want more information, you can visit the website at MotoSeries.com. Use the discount code cobra11.

Thanks Jeff!

I'm trying to get the bike ready for The Blessing of the Bikes! Just finished moving and while things are a bit tight, move cost out the nose! I order tires today and will change brake pads this week...might even wash the beast!

I want to see if I can find someone to rebuild my stock seat to be firmer and a bit wider BUT unlike the touring saddle I have I want it flat and taller. Anyone have any ideas who I could drag it to?

Got a bit tired of the Syncs wearing out a rear every 2500-3000 miles and went to the Stradas, got close to 10,000 out of them and could maybe get by for another 1000 but it'd just be plain stupid to do so I think. Ordered a set of Road Pilot II to see how they work. The Stradas seem real "Heavy" in the handling dept.

I gotta agree on the Syncs. What a garbage tire. Horrible uneven wear and spotty handling and traction. I have used Pilot Power 2ct's for my last 2 sets, pretty good tire. Handling is great and the wear is pretty decent. They have done well for me in rain, semi cold temps and for trackdays. If I could only have one tire, this would be the set. I used a couple of sets of Pilot Pure, those were pretty good also.I bought a set of rims for trackdays this year, and just had a pair of Pilot Power mounted.

At the Iron Pony event recently, I talked with the Continental Rep for quite awhile, and I am pretty impressed with the new Conti Road Attack II. He claims high mileage and tracktire handling, rain or dry.I'll probably get a pair for my road rims this summer.

Ladies and Gents, I'd like to formally introduce myself to all of you. I'm Jeff Fuller and although I haven't been to one of the group rides or events yet I've been following along via the email notifications for a good date to break away and get myself down there. Since I haven't had a chance to get down there I thought I'd extend an invite for you come up. Then I thought heck I'll really tempt you all with a deal that's to good to pass up. For any of you that have ever wanted a track experience I'm sure I'll be able to remove the last lingering excuses for not getting to the track by offering May 14th and May 16th to COBRA members for 105.00. I'll help with equipment too. Moto Series has top shelf Vanson leathers with integral back protectors for rent for 25.00. We also permit good quality textile suits as long as they zipper together at the waist. Over the ankle boots are required as are gloves that cover the wrist and a full face helmet(modulars are okay too). If you are riding with a leather or textile suit without a back protector you need to have one. DOT street tires are just fine. I used my Corsa III's for 10 track days with no problems. If you've never been on a track before I suggest enrolling the instructional group. You will learn the racing line, bike control, throttle control and suspension concepts that will help you to become a safer rider on the street. You will be able to corner better when done. If the pace is too slow in the Instructional group we can mentor you into the intermediate group no problem. Personally I'd love to see a stronger showing of Buell bikes. Dave Leppelmeier and I are generally the only two Buell riders there with our 1125R's. There is camping at the track, a food vendor, and hotels within 10 minutes. So, for 105.00 you can finally get your machine that owns corners on the track to see what it is really capable of(130.00 with leather rental). Use COBRA11 for your discount code when you sign up online. Go to www. MOTOSERIES.com or call Todd @ 866-678-MOTO or call me @ 567-203-1893. If I don't see you there I'll see you at one of the weekend rides coming up. Cheers, Jeff

It is... Fast too. Also, don't believe any negative hype about the track condition. They've made a lot of repairs over the past several years. If it was as bad as some would have you believe the fast guys wouldn't be averaging 100mph and running 1:08 to 1:10's

Fast too

Maybe on your 1125, but my xb9 doesn't go too fast.

IS the whole track fast or are there fast sections? I've never even seen the track. Looking forward to it though, I like the accordion effect I get with the guys on faster bikes. In a way I think it helps me become a better and smoother rider.I don't have horsepower to equalize sloppy riding.

Loud, the track as a whole is fast. That being said I've also tracked my Uly there and had a ball. Turns 1,2 and 3 are one huge right handed sweeper that is pretty decent speed 3 runs into a short straight that ends in turn 4 a wide banked 90 deg left that will make you want to brake even though you don't have to. T4,T5and T6 flow together as a 180 deg left then another short straight dumps you into T7,8,9 a 180 degree right hander that once you get to know will have you seeing 100mph speeds or better. As you go through T9 you will be WOT at the apex and will accelerate all the way down the back straight. This is where I bounce off the rev limiter on my 1125 T10 is essentially a non existent right that orients you toward T11 a "kink" right. Another short straight will give you time to get the bike ready for T12 a sharp left that immediately dumps into T13 a super sharp right that will most likely permit you to get you knee down for the first time. T13 puts you on the front straight where you will rake through the gears back toward T1 with a huge grin.
Guys, Todd asked me to make sure I specify that TO GET THE DISCOUNT YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER ONLINE USING THE DISCOUNT CODE GIVEN IN THE FIRST POST (COBRA11) I also fatfingered the number keys and the leathers are 35.00 not 25.00.. Sorry for the confusion. Even at 35.00 it's a hell of a deal. We have 20 pairs of leathers ranging in size from 36 to 54. ALL SIZES ARE US NOT EURO. I started riding on the road at age 17 in the summer of 88 and didn't do my first track day until two years ago. At the end of the weekend I was so hooked in I asked Todd if I could become part of the operation. Thankfully he said yes. C'mon out. I promise you won't leave disappointed. BTW my freakishly tall 16 year old got hooked too. He started riding last year @ 15 on a Motard XR650L. Good Stuff!!!
