the disagreement is about whether to trailer (my preferred method)or try and shoe horn 2 1125R's is a standard truck bed that is only 2 inches longer that the bikes. And being the bikes are over 4 feet wide when side by side on the stands, and it's only 4 feet between wheel wells. And no anchor points between the bikes. And the loading and unloading of bikes out of the bed of the truck is a disaster waiting to happen. And the handle bars will be overlapping each other, but you can't move one bike back cause the beds too short. There seems to be no willingness on my brother in laws part to get a hitch for his truck so he may be going solo, which he than can incur the total cost of fuel and lodging which would be more than buying a $120 hitch and $14 wire harness. We'll see what happens, but if I know him, he won't budge, so that's my dilemma.

Too bad too. I got the trailer to use from a friend for free and would have kicked if for the hitch AND kicked in for an oil change on his truck when we returned as the wear and tear is on his truck. That what we do when some one drives to Canada for a fishing trip. It's only fair. So I hope it turns out for the best, but I'm not holding my breath

No doubt transporting bikes in a pickup is more difficult, but it can be done. I have transported two bikes ~500 miles in a short bed Ford Ranger (and I will be again for Buelltoberfest), so I'm sure a full-size truck would be much easier. Take your time loading them and especially securing them and they'll be fine. It takes some thought and ingenuity to secure them so they can't bump one another but it's doable. I suspect you'll have plenty of people in Suches willing to help you unload and reload once you get there too.

However you do it, I hope you're able to come.

Would loading one bike backwards make a difference? We've had to do that in the past when we're tight on space. Luckily enough my Blast falls just under the Uly handlebars...it's close, but no touch!

This was an RC-51 and my Honda Ascot on my previous trip. I'm sure the 1125R fairings are wider, but then you're talking a full-size truck too.

Kristi's idea is good; that would probably eliminate any width problem.

Make it work, dude!

I have hauled the uly/1125r, uly/XB9R, 9R/12S, 1125r/P3 all in the back of 4 banger standard bed s-10. It can be done.

More than likely I will bring the Uly/1125r in the truck to Suches this year.

Suggested the backward bike but hes worried the fairing will tear off. i am not doubting theyll fit with a lot of bs, but a trailer makes more sence to me. that and he has a hard cover on the bed that is rather extensive and not worth taking off in my opinion. I'll get there one way or another.

this is the 9 and a tlr 1000 in the back of an old dodge for my first trip to the dragon. granted we drilled one hole and put an eye bolt in it. but i have hauled them the same way except with the bikes tied together at the forks or bars(difficult on 1125 but doable) are you sure it has NO tie down hooks? it should atleast have them in the front corners even if a bedliners in it.

if they are both 1125's, what i would do is take the inside clipon off and wrap up and tie down the controls somewhere. tie then tie a strap to the upper triple on both bikes and hook them together. take the inside footpegs off to allow a couple more inches of room. make a 2x4 rectangle box to set between your front wheel and his, do same for rear(so the cant bounce together at all) i also make some that run from the box side to the outside of each wheel. then get something the right thickness to go between the tail gate and your rear wheels to take up slack and allow no way for the bikes to wiggle for and aft. there ya go.

im used to having to do stuff like this though...

that made it all the way to florida and back, as well as some homecoming trips

Will and I used to put both our XB9Ss "69" style in the back of my Ranger.
No_rice's trailer is way smaller than the picture makes it look.
If you saw the trailer empty, you say there's no way it'd hold 3 bikes.
Come on down Rocco, you'll be glad you did, regardless of how you get here.

+1!

About the fairing tearing off, it won't happen. I had my Uly trailered down to Buelltoberfest 1 backwards in a trailer, and the windshiled is only held on by push pins and will easily pull off. It didn't budge. The fairing on an R is securely mounted, but it only takes a few minutes to remove the flyscreen for peace of mind.

lol, if i remember correctly its a 5x8. the one bonus is there are no wheel wells to contend with on my trailer though.

i was also going to say, you can always unbolt the fly screen for piece of mind. ive done that before just so i can relax a bit more on the trip!

No_rice, he has tie down points in the four corners, but nothing in the center and his truck is too new, so drilling an eyelet in is not gonna happen.
With all you described, doesn't it sound easier to:
1-Hook up trailer to hitch
2-Roll bikes on trailer
3-strap bikes to trailer
4-Drive away
A fckin' hell of a lot less fckin' around.

I always hook mine over the front of the pickup bed to the frame rails on opposing sides. I have done two bikes like that many times in new pickups with no damage to the bikes or the truck.

Hook the outside straps to the in-bed hooks at the outer front corners and the inside straps over the front wall to the opposite side frame rail or to a hole in the rear cab mounts. You can put a towel over the front wall if the strap is looking to rub on the paint.

You still have time to go to his place and do a practice set up to be sure for a long trip.
