U4 - Hate to hear it. I know how you feel and would not wish that on anyone.

1313 - Master, I am not worthy. I have often thought about how many miles I have logged on bikes. I do not know if you can count my little Motobecane but my brother and I logged 20,000 miles in two years on that bike. At 18 I looked at moving up to big bikes and my dad put the kabash on that idea. It was 19 years later before I got a big bike, my CB750. I put 24,000 miles on that bike in little more than two years. I got the M2 a year later and have owned it the longest of any of them. The years of ownership is a better measure than the mileage I have put on it. After six years of ownership, I have only ridden it 20,000 mile. The Uly I have owned the second longest and it has been ridden the most. To be fair, only it and the Motobecane were bought new. By far my favorite of all the bikes, the Uly is dancing just under 50,000 miles. I guess total mileage on bikes I have owned I am just over 100,000 miles so far.

Foot note: This year has been a record year as far as riding. Where I have been averaging 1000 mile per month since I started riding, this year I doubt I have broken 2000 miles so far. This year more than not, life is just getting in the way of riding. Though I miss the rides, I can not say I would change a thing.

Guys,
Thanks for the offers for a loaner seat. I'll get the cash scratched together to get mine redone and be in touch.

Homecoming- what are the travel plans for the folks heading out of NC? I heard Carlos and Webe are not going due to work, what's everyone else doing? I was planning in heading out in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday and heading to Chicago to see one of my college buddy's baby, and then head to E. Troy on Wednesday. I have not yet made return plans...

U4 - PO Box 1076, Grifton NC 28530

Well Carlos is on vacation this week and since the kids are out of school, he's taking them to VA for a mini vacation. Carlee is getting lots of driving time in today. She's riding on roads that are not flat or straight! So glad I'm here!

Hoping to get the pool up tonight. I did ask Carlos to make sure the Blast was the last bike in the barn in case I decide to ride!

Was coming home on 64 today, and I passed a Red Blast at a stoplight. I pulled over and he stopped. New rider on a Riders Edge bike. I forget his name, but we had a good time talking in the intersection.

Carlos, sorry we missed you & the kids this weekend. We were plugged in pretty tight to the 'puters (and the kitchen - you do remember our kitchen, right?? ; ) )

Called the cabin about 8:30 this morning and left a message, then stopped by a little later hoping to catch up to you. Sorry about the weather - this was the wettest/humidest weekend up here so far this year. : (

Ride to lean,
FB&D

Good to see the ol' Five-Five again. We need to organize a "Git 'R Run!" weekend : )

You do nice work on the mountain grass - are you available for hire??? : )

That is mountain grass. The first picture is the main cabin. Then second picture is the "bottom 40". The smaller cabin is just to the left of the left of the tree in the bottom left corner of the picture.

Comes with fishing poles, hammock, swings and wildlife.

Ferris, since I traded two wheels for six little legs, I was quite busy keeping everyone especially myself out of trouble. We called your cell or at least the one I had in my phone late Friday afternoon as we were heading to Meadows of Dan for some Ice Cream. I did not get through so I figured you were hard at it getting ready for your company this week. Carlee drove all the way up on Thursday. We took the motorcycle route so she got to drive up the mountain on US-58. We got there in enough time for me to start trimming the creek bank. Pete came up too and did the tractor portion and I did the trimming. On Friday morning I finished the trimming and spent the rest of the day in creek with the kids. That picture looks like Saturday with the cloudy overcast. We headed north to Hungry Mothers State Park for a day at the beach with the kids. When we left it was beautiful but by the time we got to Hillsville just a few miles down the road, the skies looked threatening. We made it to Marion and ate at our favorite Mexican restaurant. After lunch the weather did not look any better but we did get in an hour ride on a paddle boat on the lake at the park. The kids were bummed because I did not let them go to the beach. Too late and weather approaching. After a couple of hours at the park we headed up the the mountain. The kids loved the fact that they were in the clouds when we stopped at the top of the first ridge. We continued on north to 42 and found Nance's glacier road, though quite ice free and I felt like I was cheating in the Jeep. We ran into quite a lot of wild life, one big gray Fox, a Turkey, a deer, a Beaver and a Bald hippie with VW Microbus and all. After a pass through Burke's Garden we headed toward I-77, headed south to Wytheville for a late dinner just in time for a nasty lightning storm that followed us all the way back the BRP. Sunday we packed up early and headed for home. The kids did not want to leave which is a sign they had a good time. Pete had just as much fun as the kids. It was a good mountain grass trip. I almost did not miss not having the motorcycle and would not have changed it for the world.

Carlos, excellent adventure report, thx for sharing. : )

Sounds like you and the kids and Pete had a great time in spite of the conditions. Spring started out very gentle and benign up here (deservedly so, I think, after our brutal winter), but of late we've been getting the afternoon lightning storms pretty regular.

D and I were on the computers (and kitchen) all day Saturday, and I had radar going on a screen in the background. It certainly didn't look good up near Marion and HMSP.

I was chancing it by running out to the cabin on Sunday morning. I had an errand in Hillsville, and by the time I made it to the cabin the skies were already threatening. I needed fuel so ran into Meadows of Dan, and on the way I could look back to the northwest and see it coming.

Humped down the Parkway and got home literally just few minutes before the bottom dropped out, and that was the extent of my riding for the weekend.

Re: my cell, the number's still the same, but our signal here at the house is weak and often it never rings on my end. Sorry we missed you, but glad to hear y'all had an unforgettable weekend! : )

Oldog,
Shot you a PM yesterday am, and I think I am going to head out this afternoon/early evening and get at least a few hundred miles down the road. Haven't heard back, so I'm not sure what your plans are. I'll try to give you a call sometime this morning...

Webe,
Shot you a PM back as well, was spending time with Heather last night since I'll not see her for a week and a half. I can do your tires sometime next week if you'd like.
My cell number is in the BRAN, if you want to give me a call.

Jim, sorry to hear about your loss. My dad had a pair of coon dogs when I was younger, they were brother and sister. When the male passed it wasn't more than a week when the female passed. She never acted right when her brother left. I believe it was a broken heart.

Jimmy, thats what I'm thinking. When Dominik, one we buried last week, came to us, Nakita 'mommied' him and took to him like he was her own. Part that sucks is when i was getting ready for school she was peeking around the corner at me as if she thought she was in trouble. Before I left I gave her rub and kiss on the forehead and told her she was a good girl, so that makes it a little easier

Jim,

I hate to hear it. For a while now we have had one older and one younger dog. It started with Chelsea, our first rescue. She was four months old when we got her and Alex was seven years old. When we had to put him down at twelve, shortly followed by China Bear, our second rescue who was five years old when we got her, Chelsea was visibly depressed. Six months Chelsea was our only dog after her whole life being around at least one other dog. She got fat, had little energy and just laid around the house. Then came Ralph, a high strung 18 month old. Chelsea and Ralph both missed another dog and were instant buds. Chelsea lost the weight, would try and keep up with Ralph in the yard, and the two slept together every night. When she passed Ralph was alone. But from lessons learned with Chelsea, we looked for another dog and not long after Moose came along. Out first attempt at two males in the house at the same time, they get along but never will be as close as Ralph and Chelsea. Now with Nana in the house, Moose has that same connection as Ralph and Chelsea did. Ralph has a bit of peace and quiet now that Moose has someone to play and Ralph hopefully can enjoy his older years in peace.

My thoughts are with you.

I will try to keep a closer watch on this page and would love to ride with you guys when you are up in my area. By the way, what is/where is OMH?

Hi Brad, good to see you bought another Buell. I remember meeting you at Shady Valley a few years back. I was riding that day with Rubberdown, Nance, U4euh, and M2nc. That was the day my bike started running so piss poor, but U4 found the problem a few miles down the road. Maybe we'll meet up again. Later!...

Brad if the stars align we will be in VA the weekend after the 4th. I originally was going to go up there last week by myself on the bike but instead traded two wheels for six little legs. Ulywife and I hope to have some time to ride up there in July and then again one week in Aug. yet to be determined. I may make a week of it and head north from Mountain Grass to the WV Rally mid-Aug. Like I said, it is yet to be determined. This summer I have more vacation time than Ulywife, not enough funds to do what ever I want, and three lovely kids with the same adventurous heart as I have. We will keep posting as time nears.

PS: OMH = Old Maple Hill Rd. Our best attempt out here in the east of US421. It is popular enough with motorcyclist that the state patrol is there every weekend.

thanks for all the greetings, I remember that evening Twig. I will watch for you guys to post when you are heading this way and see if I can make it. I really want to go to the WV rally but I work for a Ford dealership and the Bristol Nascar race is that weekend and we usually have to be with the Ford reps at he track.

Carlos

You can't blame Jimmy. Ha Ha!! I canceled friday night but listened to another good friend who told me I needed a good ride, so I made to decision to come down at 06:30 in the morning and took the indirect route through Rocky Mt. 17 has changed a lot since I was living in Myrtle Beach. I did roll through Grifton so I thought your ears may have perked up when another Buell rolled through town. OMH was fun and the food at the end was good too. I'll need to make it down again, it really is not that far even on a Firebolt.

Kristi

we'll need to set up a weekend ride where I can run down on Friday night and stay with the Bishops and get some good Saturday riding in before leaving on Sunday.

I've got my dad coming in Monday so it may be in July before I can make it down there again
