Ok, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen today. Look what I found lurking under the timing cover on the S1:

Normally there's just a cam position sensor there, and you can adjust the static timing by rotating it around. This BAMF has a programmable ignition module that selects between street and race modes and sets the maximum advance. It was dialed up to 11 on the most aggressive race curve, so I think I've found the source of the pinging. : ) We'll see tomorrow when I take it out on a less aggressive street curve. Hopefully I won't have to mess with the carb at all!

Woo! No pinging this morning. I couldn't open it up all the way in rush hour traffic, but I did a couple of high gear roll ons that normally would've brought the pings.

now thats the right kind of surprise after getting a new bike. Congrats on the S1

looks like a great weekend .. sorry we missed it but we had a good weekend with the family, sad but good. I'll explain in person, not much for sharing a lot of personal stuff on the web.

RRRRRRRRRGGGH!!!!! I left the damn key on last night and killed the freaking battery on the S1. Now it won't charge. That was a $100 mistake, and now I can't ride it this weekend.

I am guessing you cant ride because of something other than a lack of one of you dozen bikes.

Yeah, I guess I could just pull the battery from one of the other bikes for a while. Cycle Gear has Dunlop Q2's on sale for $199 a pair tomorrow (Saturday) only, so I'm putting new rubber on it. I really want to see how it handles with a round back tire instead of the current square one. : )

Cycle Gear isn't mounting tires today, so I took the wheels to Marietta Motorsports. I got to chatting with them, and apparently these Q2's are pretty good. Opie Caylor ran 1:00 flat at Tally with them on a bone stock GSX-R 750 in full street trim.

New12r- Please check in on this thread when you get a chance: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/562579.html?1273938383

The throttle shaft on Maximum's 06 Uly broke last week while he was on a long trip; he had to borrow a throttle body from another Badwebber to finish his trip. I remembered you'd had a new throttle shaft made for your Uly and posted info. Tootal is looking into making more- if you can provide any info- please let him know.

Stuff I learned about the S1 today:

- Getting the front wheel off is difficult because the front caliper is like a rubix cube. There is no reliable solution. You just keep wiggling it around randomly, and it might eventually get past the rotor. Masking tape is essential to prevent gouging the rim.

- Getting the rear wheel back on is a gigantic PITA because you have to line up 5 different things without dropping them in order to get the axle where it's supposed to go. Buell really got it right with the XB series.

- Changing the fork oil wasn't too bad. It would've been super easy with a 3rd hand.

- Rather than having adjustable rebound and damping on each fork, they're separated. One fork controls rebound, and the other controls damping. Wacky!

To remove the front wheel on the S2 I compress the pucks a little into the caliper and remove the pads. Then remove the 2 bolts securing the caliper. Remove caliper from around the rotor..

When life hands you a tree, make firewood!

Seriously though, I'm glad no one got hurt. You didn't let Cody near a chainsaw, did you? He'd have tried to juggle it within the first five minutes.

My kid just passed the MSF class! Now she needs a ride. Anyone have any leads on a good starter bike? Ie; Blast, Ninja 250/500, something? Cheap is the operative word here.
She won't ride my scooter, cause "scooters are gay".

Anyone know where my old Blast is? I wouldn't be the first person to buy a bike twice.
