If your route dips south of Red Rocks I can probably ride up and meet the pack. Otherwise it's too far, too early for me.

No. We'll be going to church then taking my son to lunch for his 21st birthday.

Depending on the weather after lunch we might try to get out for a short ride so Dan can test out his new fuel pump. Dan needs to scrub off some miles on his new tires too.

I don't think I will be riding tomorrow. See below.

Wow, so I had an interesting and adrenaline filled ride today. I rode into Colorado Springs and decided to ride up the Seven Falls road. When I got up to the upper parking area, just before the road becomes gravel, several guys on bikes rode up behind me. They wanted to know how to get to the top of Pikes Peak. Of course they were on the wrong road for that. I told them I would lead them back through town over to Hwy. 24 and up to the road that leads to the Pikes Peak toll road. I let them know that Ute Pass going up would be curvy and fun, but didn't know what their comfort level was. One guy was riding a Yamaha R1, the other was on a Yamaha VStar Raider(http://tinyurl.com/ydsrkl2). The other two guys were on similar bikes but were lagging behind. As soon as traffic cleared enough to open it up both of them charged ahead of me. I caught up and the three of us played the acceleration game from the next few lights. Then we headed up Ute Pass. The guy on the raider went flying by me and was leaning so hard that one of the peg feelers sheared off. Later we found out he was also dragging the lower pipe and had scratched it up bad. By the time we got to the toll gate the road was closed for the day but we all dismounted and visited for a while. I found out they were all high voltage line workers and wind turbine mechanics. It hit me then that two of the guys were a lot like the blasting guys I met in my early 20s - they live for the day. We raced back down Ute Pass zipping between vehicles and hitting speeds over a 100mph. The R1 must have hit 140 at one point. Back in town they told me they hadn't had that much fun in a long time. We parted ways and I headed back towards Canon City.

And now for the rest of the story:

Approaching Penrose I was still stoked and riding way too fast. Apparently I passed a state trooper at some point. He told me he had clocked me at 85 in a 60, which was bad enough for me. But what I didn't realize was that he thought I fled from him because I sped up after and left him in the dust. I was just ripping through a set of turns and was pushing the throttle up coming out of the turns! But what really made him mad was that I had turned off onto a side road just to explore before it got dark and when I turned back on the highway he was behind me and turned on his lights. I wasn't going that fast at the time so I was thinking it must be a light out or something. He was mad and wanted to know why I ran. He then interpreted my puzzled look as playing dumb and got madder! He said he was going to arrest me for alluding and write the ticket, yikes! Well, darn, what could I say? I knew better to argue but I wasn't going to cop to alluding! After standing beside my bike for twenty minutes he got out of his car and let me know that he was also citing me for lack of proof of insurance! What, no wait, ah man... I put my old Blast insurance card in my pouch for the XB9! So he let me know that he was keeping my license and that it was considered suspended unless I go to the DMV this week and show the proof. I have a crumple piece of paper as a temp license for now.

Ok, enough adrenaline for the day! I nearly went to jail AND lost my license. I wasn't sure how fast I was going through those curves but I can admit it was way over the speed limit and I deserve the ticket. I'm just glad he didn't find me earlier when I was hitting triple digits. But I'm too old to run from the cops and go to jail! He was generous in the end for not taking me in. His last admonition was to tell me to take it to the track... and I know I should. Argh, sometimes I just get carried away.

Well, I'm going to have to duck out too guys. As much as I want to go I need to work on some military ed. I went to my promotion board this week and am now promotable to SGT, but I need more mil ed points. So I'm going to spend today getting those done. Gotta have all of this in before the 8th.

Jody, 115 was labeled the most dangerous road in Colorado before they made it four lanes in some places. It is still patrolled off and on. Sounds like you found it when it was "on".

We all get tickets from time to time. Of course I had a 20 year span between my last two.

Lecture on: Just because a bike can do triple digits I can not think of any reason why you should do them. If you got caught doing 100 in a 75 zone the LE can take you directly to jail and impound you bike. There is absolutely no reason to be doing that crap on the street. Which do you think is cheaper, a ticket or track day fees?
At least you realize that you are in the wrong. I will NOT ride with people that do that crap.
Lecture off.

The fact that he let you go home, with your bike, I expect it will just being a speeding ticket once you show prof of insurance and you may have to take a safe driving course (more money wasted). I think he can cite you for reckless endangerment and speeding, running from the Law is a felony so maybe he cut you a break.

Oh, he definitely cut me a break. Dang, had a bad night of sleep and just felt like staying under the covers this morning. When I am in my truck I drive like an old man and enjoy it. I get on the bike and most of the time I turn into a 16 year old hoodlum drunk on adrenaline. It's not the bikes fault, of course, but maybe I need to find a bike that has a personality like my truck and doesn't seduce me into such craziness. Assuming I can turn around my finances I really need to just save the bike for track days and outings with sane folks.

What do you mean about the safe driving course? Do they offer that as an option to reduce the severity? As it stands the speeding ticket will tack on 6 points to my record. I had previously gone about 16 years without a ticket, meaning before the slow speed ticket the city gave me back in May. That ticket was reduced and deferred so until last night I had zero points. Ah man, I feel like crap for doing this to myself.

Yep, they have some type of driving course that you can take (you have to pay for it) and it will drop points. I am not sure they way to find out about it but they should tell you all that stuff when you go to get your license or when you go to court. Maybe there is a web site somewhere. I would start with Colorado DOT.

BTW: Lynn is not happy with you either.

Yes, I did lose my mind. Do you think they will buy temporary insanity? ; ) After the whole episode I do feel like I used to in my drunken twenties. You know the muppet character "Animal"? There is a little bit of him in me when the adrenaline gets pumping.

After contemplating things this morning I have an idea that may mean giving up the bikes over the winter. Since I am struggling financially right now I may approach a banker here in Canon about lending me money at a fixed rate to get the credit card monkey off my back and let him hold my bikes for at least six months. Perhaps a small town bank would be willing to work with me. I may try to sell both of them next spring to pay off any remaining debt with the banker then. From that point, depending on my income potential, I could reconsider getting one motorcycle and maybe finance a part of it. Over the winter there really aren't that many good days to ride, even though I did get out quite a bit last winter. So maybe it won't seem so bad to be without any bike for six months.

One of the money struggles I am having is affording to purchase the proper gear and equipment to ride the XB9. I could save money on the insurance for it, too. Why struggle with it AND risk getting stupid fast like I did last night?

Jody now I feel guilty about scolding you.......don't do anything drastic with the XB...just hang on to that bike, sell the blast..take whatever you can get for it....1 or 2 thousand dollars is better than zero....and just regroup.

The motorcycle is a much cheaper vehicle to do maintenance on, and put gas in than a truck.
Plus if you are anything like me riding ...even if it is short distances does so much good for emotional health.
.....So anyway that is my 2 cents...talk to ya later, Lynn

Thanks Lynn, but don't feel guilty... your scolding lets me know you care! :-)

I still may approach a local banker and put the bikes up as collateral. They would probably prefer me hang on to both bikes as long as they had a lien against both. I think the market to sell any bike right now is just way down and likely won't come back until next spring... maybe.

I made a good contact yesterday morning in the Springs area who will help me get my resume out to several places for consideration as a contract IT worker. I am excited about that and will be working on that this week.

Jody, I too, am glad you are OK. After reading your thread last night I was tempted to say something but Frank and Lynn have taken care of that.

I must say, I understand the insanity that these bikes have but we need to have, as someone at church said today, Maturity. The maturity to know when it's OK to go fast and when to slow down.

Dan and I and Skye went out for a little ride today and passed several cruisers. I hit about 105 in doing so but did slow down to a more sane pace.

The track is a very good place to get the speed demon out of oneself, and much safer too. Although, people do get hurt on the track as well. It's also a very good way to learn proper techniques to apply to the street. However, saying that, hanging off the bike isn't for the street (I need to tell myself that at times). That becomes a red flag for the LE to case one down. And every book I've read says the same thing.

Hope all goes well with you in every way, esp financially. We'll keep you in our prayers about getting a good paying job.

Well, someone from down the street moved out and left their house cats to try and survive in the wild. I really hate people like that.

Some of the kittens have been adopted (we are taking one) but we have a mother cat and a kitten left (about 18 weeks old).

I have them in the garage (heated) trying to train them to use the litter box and they are doing fine. If anyone can take in a cat let me know. They are very friendly.

I will not take them to the humane society so they can put them down. All the shelters are full so I am in a bind. I will post pictures but they are your standard orange cats.

Julie,
Did you guys get any snow? I would like to ride rampart range later this week if their is no snow up there. Did you guys go dirt riding last Saturday? How is Dan's bike running with the new fuel pump? Hope all is well.

Frank,
I like cats but I am allergic to them. Good luck.

Hi John, No we didn't go dirt biking. Dan wanted to ride the Buells to try out the new fuel pump. Here's a pic of it. Do you see any difference????? : ) He thinks the bike did run better but he needs to get it out for a longer ride to be sure.

We didn't get actual snow here, it's more of a frozen dusting. Not sure about rampart as it's still a slight distance from us. I would think it would be OK to go up there later in the week tho.

Cute cats, Frank. Unfortunately they could become coyote meat out here.

old one on the left, new on the right, hum! Whatta ya think?

Ryan, I understand. I could not stand seeing them out in the cold. The mother followed us home from the mailbox. She is real friendly, as well as the kittens, and when they all get to purring it is pretty loud.

We took the little girl kitten in and she is asleep on the sofa next to me. It will be a while before our other cat gets used to her. The other two are content in the garage for now. I have a heater out there so they can stay warm.

We got enough snow that 3 inches or so was in the grass.
Got up yesterday to 14 degrees!!!

25 now, so I hope to ride to work today - short day too.

Starting to twitch, haven't ridden since Wednesday.

Oh yeah, shame on you Jody ; )
Good luck with the LEO and court.

Cute kittens, F&L, but Floyd is spoiled and an "only cat".

Zac, it is cold here, up to 21 degrees from 20 degrees earlier.

Our old cat is not use to the kitten running around yet LOL.

I have someone coming over later to look at the mother and other kitten so hopefully that will go well.

The kitty cats are all gone and have been adopted, save one that we are keeping. It will be good to get my garage back although it was been nice because I have been heating it with the cold weather to keep the cats warm.

It never got to 30 degrees here. Damn.... I looked at the forecast yesterday and it said 60 and sunny. I think I will be a weatherman because you can be wrong all the time.
