Hey Timbo-

I've been wondering about you. Glad things are mostly OK (with the exception of the long shifts).

Saro I want to head out and get there early, but I think its going to be colder than s#@$ riding early in the morning, as I am expecting a couple hour ride. So I dont know. How many people are meeting at Dennys?

Saro,

I'm thinking that we met at about 8:00 last year, but I wouldn't mind getting some sleep and meeting up at 9:00.

Sandblast,

Why don't you just take the straight slab ride up in the morning, then we can do some canyon carving in the afternoon after it gets above 40 degrees??

Timbo, FB and Denise,

We'll miss you guys.

Sparky,

Are you coming to Long Bich or are you going to the American Sport Bike party?

James

YOU GUYS GOTTA SEE FASTER!!!

Can't wait for it to come out in DVD - then we're gonna have to have a Faster party some Saturday afternoon.

This is a movie best viewed in a crowd of like-minded enthusiasts - everybody applauds, laughs, and groans (ouch - that's gotta hurt) at all the same points in the movie.

You're gonna love it.

Sparky,

Looks like we're gonna get rolling on the custom bodywork for the race Bolts. Any chance of meeting up or maybe you being able to drop off the fairing upper at Bartels HD in the coming week?

(emailing you as well)

We might be going to a different shape but it'd be nice if that one you have is good enough to work with.

Oh and yeah - we're trying to put together a WERA 6-hour endurance race team for Vegas and Fontana mid-year 2004. Already have 3-4 committed riders and now starts the real work - BUDGETING!

Keeping our fingers crossed, it's only money!

Hutch, a representative of European at the Cycle World show said that you're not there anymore. Izzat true? I know of a certain HD/B dealer in the Marina Del Rey area (not mentioning any names, but they are enlarging/consolidating the service area, have a race shop, performance parts business, knowledgeable Buell staff & a top tech that's a Ducati expert too) that needs you. Seems like you'd fit right in.

Hutch,

I'll be making a final decision when I work through the (pretty substantial) financial issues. The plan is to either commit or back off no later than the end of January. Until then, I'm compiling the list of EVERYTHING that has to be done to the bike and engine and that doesn't include about $2000 worth of crash damage from my turn 8 excursion in October.

Again, the decision whether to race the 2 6-hour races is going to be solely based on $$$$, not enthusiasm. The biggest hit will be the engine work and chain conversion and regardless, about $2000 in damage repairs.

Kinda scary when you list everything in one place, total it up and look at it critically.

Gotta do my homework.

We're thinking about any and all possible scams. Just don't want to get others too spun up until we have enough in the bank to cover all mods to the bike and all the extras that are going to be needed. The 3-4 riders are covering their own costs - fees and hotel.

The more I look into it, the more I think of keeping it pretty stock - just a race kit, fairing/seat swaps, second set of wheels and a handful of spares - stuff you can fix after a minor fall like pegs, controls, bars, stuff like that.

Maybe we'll just do it "on the cheap" figuring that it's better to race on a fairly stock bike than not race because you just threw $7K into the motor and chain conversion and maxed the visa on all the other stuff.

Still ruminating.

To start the new year's riding season, here's an excellent poker run by the Pasadena MC Club in February. Starts in San Gabriel, winds around for 150 miles & ends in Simi. If you guys want to try something new & fun, try this run.

These guys have been around for 97 years and it shows. They've ridden all the best back roads and put on this one & the classic Greenhorn enduros in the past and 2-day road tours. In '97 I rode my new '96 Lightning on their poker run which went from Brown's BMW, across Chino Hills to Murietta where it wound up & through the horse ranches on Clinton Keith, down that amazing 27% Los Gatos Rd, to DuLuz Rd, & on to Lake Wohlford & back to Temecula -- all on back roads. I had lost that route sheet for 5 years and finally found it last week, stuck in an old catalog in the den. It was the memory of this run that I got the idea for Temecula BRAG's Killen Trail run last year.
