Favorite Ride (Roads and Routes): Oregon HWY 224 Estacada to Detroit

nice chunk of road, R_r, and happened to be the last leg of the Four-Play ride last July. (mighty hard on VFR rims, tho, if'n one is not careful...)

you've done the Aufderheide, yes? pretty sweet : )

ride to lean,

Ferris: Hmmmm Estacada to Detroit Love that ride, actually that was the last hard ride I got in at the end of last season. It was absolutely beautiful. The leaves were changing colors, the sun was out, it was crisp yet not cold - WOW- I can't wait to ride. Thanks for putting a smile on my face : )

Looking forward to logging more hours this year and hope to get Mr Wood out riding a little more on the off weekends that Cody is not racing. He didn't have much a of a riding season last year with Cody racing, somehow I know he wouldn't of had it any other way though. I will have to send him up to Bob & Deb's for some weekend riding get aways!

Later-

Hey Bob, I was thinking about you and Mike the other day. I headed out to Prairie City (OHV park) with my neighbor and all the kids. After the kids get warmed up and comfortable I start thinkin. Bet them klx's would be kinda fun. So me and the neighbor promply confiscate the 110's and head out on the kids intermediate track. We had so much fun rippin around and showin those kids a thing or two. It reminded me of your day at Pauls house. Later in the day we matched up against 4 dads on xr50's and had a little fun dicin it up with them. Man those little bikes can be a kick in the ass. Made me smile all day.

I hope you all get a chance to ride soon and if you get too bored just come down and see me.

Oh, and by the way, I demand all you Tacoma area residents to get back on the Swiss nights and have a beverage of choice for me!

Take care, Matt

Thanks for putting a smile on my face : )

you're welcome, Kim, but Road_Rider started it! ; )

we rode some plenty unforgettable stuff on Four-Play last year, coming up the coast from Laguna, but several of the troops voted the chunk from Detroit to Estacada as their favorite of the trip.

this was in spite of: me badly bending both rims on Denise's VFR (and narrowly avoiding the Mutha of All Highsides in the process) about 10 minutes out of Detroit, Fireman Jim throwing his S2 on the ground about 20 minutes later, Big G getting not one but TWO separate flats on the back of his 'Busa, and...

...Tom Reiner (formerly a.k.a. Reindog, now a.k.a. Forger), earning his new nickname as he boldly went where no backmarker had gone before.

i like this road so much i took it on the way back to CA, too, and spent the night camped next to Detroit Lake, a can of chili on the campfire and a bottle of tequila in hand.

m-m-m-good.

ok, back to work. thanks for putting a smile on MY face. : )

that was great RAY!!!
Oh, many times I have seen the same, riding the freeways of Phoenix. "hoping that she would either flick the cell phone out the window or stick the cigarette in her ear." that cracked me up! You put it so well,"I’m a dirty, rude, noisy jerk riding a dirty, rude, noisy motorcycle." he he he I have a Buell shirt that says, "we're loud, we're obnoxious, and we are not going away." Glad to see you came to your senses and decided to stop harassing that fine citizen.

And thanks for putting this smile on my face

Firemanjim- well once the little shit turns 17 maybe I can put his ass on his own bike and ride beside him. At least then I won't have to listen to him whining! It will be just me in my helmet all by myself. Ahhh peace and quiet! OK Back to my reality, Cameron is screaming and Cody is whining about bedtime, something about being to scared to sleep in his own bed when his Dad is out of town, so he needs to sleep in my bed! Calgon take me away! : )

Oh back to reality. Maybe tonight I will have visions of twisties and good riding friends all in my head. : ) I'll let you know tomorrow.

Loni- How did the meeting go tonight?

Uncle Bobby and Debi- how are you?

Duane/Lisa- hello brutha and sista!

Canucks- are you guys still up there? Harv, Jim, Lo, Don, Eric (aka single guy who rebuilds bikes at kitchen table!), Stu - how is life in the off riding season?

It was great meeting you all last night. I didnt really catch everyone's name, but Spudman thanks for the info on my bike issues. I came home last night and I dont see anything like what I saw on my bike in the manual. So it must be some kind of over flow bottle like you where saying spud. Now I just need to know what I should do to check and make sure this is the case? Do I just take that cover off you were talking about and check the level of oil on the chain? Dump the catch bottle out and then start the bike and see what happens?

Thanks again guys and gals
S1Hooligan

Ps, I want to hear the "History" you guys where saying that my bike has, very interested in what you may know about my bike.

S1Hooligan- Who's bike did you end up buying? Is it someone who posts on this board or that we ride with? Or is it just a typical Buell with recall notices etc....? (note: not Buell bashing because I love the look/sound of them, just not the reliability/recall issues). Inquiring minds want to know. I was never cool enough to ride one I just got to get the mail and help pick it up from the dealership.

so.......

Bartimus- welcome to the NW side of the world, it is a chilly 30 something right now, I bet it is much warmer there in AZ. Ray usually has us laughing either with or at him at one time or another throughout the week (all in good fun). : )

Kim, The meeting last night was great. We had about 12-13 people. It was nice meeting 2 new Buell owners, Road Rider, and S1Hooligan. It was nice to see everyone and chat for awhile. The up coming riding season is going to be a fun one! Chris Kleps had a picture of his bike he is building and it looks ineresting! Spudman and Trixie came. She rode her Blast! Sure hope that she can make it for other rides this year.

Trixie, you go Girl! I was glad that you made it to the meeting. Please do come to more. Remember what I said if you want to go for a country ride just give me a call OK. And what I said about Dave's crazy riding, well I guess I over dramatized that a bit, don't want to spread rumors ya know!

Our next BRAG ride is the 15th of Feb. Meet at Destination at 10 am! Pray for good weather, I'll be there! : )

Fireman Jim, Have you heard about the No Wine'n Tour May 3-5? Chris and I were thinking of coming down for Sonoma Fest and thinking of staying for this ride. There is an article about it in the Fuell Mag this month. Deb, Bob are you interested?

My Goal this year is to have 5,000 miles on the Harley by the end of Sept!

Bye,
Loni

Hey Kim and all you "Southerners".
Were still alive and kickin' up here. I think Jim, Eric and I are going to the Vancouver Motorcycle show this Friday. That's always enough to get the itch started. I am already itchy. That might be because of this case of ......nevermind. Hopefully I can talk the boys into a little blast down to see you guys when it warms up.

Bib, if you make it down to the Vancouver, Portland area you have a place to stay! We have the spare room and the can fit a few in the travel trailer. I am sure that we could find some interesting roads that you have never been on too!

The guy I bought the bike from said he never gets online and posts about anything. Like I said I didnt catch everyones names, but the guy who was wearing the blue Buell shirt was saying that he thought maybe he knew of my bike. Was saying it has history. I am not sure what that means, but would like to know....lol....I talked to a buell mechanic today and he said it is more then likely the seal that was talked about at the meeting also. It is the one that allows the engine oil into the trany oil I think it was. Or at least that is what he said it sounded like also.

They of course want me to bring it in and have them look at it.

Anyone have more info on changing the part out? That little $4 seal they said would cost about $100 or so to put in.

SiHooligan, Reepicheep did a nice pictorial in the Knowledge vault about changing out the seal with hand-made tools. I did mine myself too and would be glad to give you the ones I made. Ping me.

It was great to see everyone at the STC meeting last Tuesday. I know it’s been awhile since I attended, glad to see you remembered me. Didn’t get to meet all the new faces, too busy eating cheap tacos. The real pleasure that night was seeing Trixie’s cute little ass on two wheels again, yea baby. Thanks for your encouraging words Loni, she enjoyed talking with you.

Yes the Buell is road worthy once again. The speedometer wasn’t working after the Splash repair. The sensor was all chewed up from 5th gear wobbling around due to the main drive bearing failure. Destination had one in stock, not cheap, and the speedo is now indicating all illegal speeds.

S1holligan, the first step I would take is drain the transmission. There should be a little less than 1 quart, an ounce or two remains trapped in the case. If you drain more than 1 quart then you most likely have a blown crankcase seal. Replacing the seal is not that hard, but consult the wisdom of the “Knowledge Vault” before going in. I highly recommend using synthetic oil, won’t foam as much causing puke. These Buells can be temper mental, but they run very strong when dialed in.

Reading the above posts on terrible twos. I don’t think they ever go away, it just gets renamed to personality and the big wheel gets replaced with a Buell. Out the door for a ride today, need to check the full sweep of the new sensor. Ride safe everyone.

Loni,I saw the article and I had to laugh as I was in Vallejo HD/Buell the same day and asked them about their participation in Sonomafest.Thom, the owner, had had NO contact with anyone from BRAG or Sonomafest RE the ride--even though they are listed as a start point.I hope they get it all worked out as it should be fun. This has become and annual event with Bob-n-Deb and sometimes more coming down for the races, etc.

thanks Kim,
It's only a chilly 40 degrees and raining, here in Tucson tonight. I've been in your part of the country before, Buelltiful country up there. But of course this whole country is criss-crossed with great roads for us to enjoy.

Thanks for the info Jim. Sure do want to make it down there. The same night I posted we got a call from Chris' mom and it looks like we will be joining her on a weeks vacation in April to Maui. So now I don't know if both trips are do-able. But you never know! Please post if you hear anything. Thanks!
