I am planning on the weekend. Leave Friday nlt midnight, and get there sat and come back on Sunday. If need be, I can drive with trailor. According to good sources, I can fit 4 bikes and Van can probably fit 5-6 adults comfortably. I figure that it would be about $320($40 x 8(both ways)) But if someone else rides, I'm open to that.

Michelle and I are in for the weekend. Arrive Friday mid day. I'd prefer to ride, I think it adds to the journey, but I know for sure that she's not going on the back of that thing for 10 hours!!!

Besides, it might be necessary to reserve a spot on a trailer, we all remember Buelltoberfest. Things don't always go as planned!

Yeah Buelltoberfest we had to definately tow two bikes back. Mine was rideable but that bent handlebar was annoying (damn deer).

I may have to re-think my offer (Van that is). That will be a lot of strain on the engine. I need an SUV!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt,
Do you have an estimate of how much the bikes weighed in the trailor (total).

Does anyone else have a vehicle? I am thinking that we can either borrow a vehicle for the trip or rent one. I have been looking online and we can get an SUV with a 3500 towing capacity that will seat 4 comfortably. It looks like it is about $110 for 3 days. That plus gas (which may be cheaper overall with the gas mileage). I will start calling around for more info but let me know if anyone is willing to go in on it. This gives us the extra trailer to put bikes in if need be or if you just want to take a brake.

i can only guess at the total weight. any thing with a class 3 hitch should be able to hack it. maybe not at 75 MPH, but it'll hack it.

there should be a label/stamped plate on yer trailer with all the tounge weight/gross weight limit and all that kinda info.

well, you did as for an estimate.

i'd say somewhere just above 3,000 lbs, but not one under, as my v-6 will contest to.

my trailer can handle about 1500 lbs in weight and weighs about 1400 lbs. So each bike was probably around 300 lbs. So let's just say 1200 lbs. That would work. Also, I may be able to get it with a USAA discount. I will call Avis tomorrow and see.

whoa, bro. my buell tips the scales at 400 lbs dry. toss in a few extra for gear, gas, and .... i can't think of another g-word.
and that brings the tally up to just over 3 large. if my calculations are correct.

but my math, like my weather predictions, is not bulletproof

I'm in David. Even if only to tow the bike so I can drive the wife separately. We'll see what you turn up and decide the seating arrangement later. If not then I'll have to secure my own trailer and tow vehicle. It still means more cars in the drive way, but at least it's one less trailer.

So far Triangle has an expedition, for 110 per day. So a 3 day trip would be around $300 and if we can make it a 2 day trip $200. Still calling though. I have not been able to get in touch with Avis though.

Last time I just went to the Avis in the Airport and got it right then and there. I don't think I paid more then $150 but that was only for 2 days.

Didn't think about that...good idea.

I'll bring my 12x12 canopy. Should get 4-5 bikes under there.

Just park the bikes in the cabin. Or I know a great place you can park them over a hill you just have to flip them over the gaurd rail

I will have to physically go up there. The counter transfers me to the 800 number and then they tell me that none of the vehicles have a hitch on it. Which I know isn't true.

Mike,

I might have volunteered us to show in Maryville, at Smoky Mt HD for breakfast???

Cool dealer and cool folks.

If they even do it. Depends when and weather for us. Could be an extended day trip past the dragon for us.

Hey guys,
I just came from the airport, and no luck on any vehicles. If anyone else can find something let me know. For now I do have the Expedition reserved at Triangle for 3 days at $110 per day. We can drop it down to 2 days, but that depends on what time we want to leave and need to pick it up. Right now I have it for 9 in the morning. Let me know what you all want to do. If we do it for 3 days, I figure that we could split it either 4 or 5 ways. Mel and 3 others. We can switch off on the riding on bike/riding in vehicle as needed, I wouldn't mind riding some of the way. So let me know if that is possible. I am planning on taking Friday off and can leave at anytime, but If I have to hang around here for work after everyone else wants to leave, I will catch up to you all.

Dwight,
Your da man. So did you reserve it? Once you do, I will cancel mine. I wonder why the difference? Did you call or was it the website? Does it have the tow package?
