No plans, but I'm game.

Let's see, I haven't been to Mom's in Julian for apple pie in quite a while. My bud in Temecula on a Sporty knows that area well.

Or,

In the area around the start of September's ride, for instance, there's a nice loop of Angeles Crest - Angeles Forest - Big & Little Tujunga - Sand Cyn - Soledad & Aliso Cyn - Angeles Forest - Crest.

I'm in Eric as long as I am home by 6:30 to 7 PM to give me enough time to run to the Ontario Airport to pick up the wife. What time and meet where? I am up in Crestline. So if doing a pre-run I can meet you anywhere between my place and the 210/2.

When you mean scouting trip for the next scab run do you mean the up coming one to scout out the route or the one after that in November?

Yeah went through there yesterday. Started by taking the 18 down from Crestline to my dealer off the I-10. Then went up the 38 from the east of Big Bear through Big Bear and back the 18 to Crestline.

It is a nice ride. It would have been better if it was not for the Labor Day weekend yahoos clogging the roads.

If you are coming from Barstow\Victorville a nice route would be picking up the 18 and come up the "backside" of Big Bear. Then maybe head down the 38 and hop on the 210 for a few miles head up the 18 and take it back to Big Bear and head back down the backside on the 18 and you are back in the Victorville area.

SCAB did a Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead run I think last fall. It is a great ride. We meet at the 15/138 off-ramp and headed east. Some even went on up to Palomar Mt.

Well...sorry all...one of the reasons for a ride was to deliver something to a girl, then ride!...The girl..(my neice) was late as usual,so the ride was later and only went to Redondo/Hermosa were we had lunch on the Pier at Kings Harbor with Paul Simonsen and Sparky, then back to my house to change seats that Sparky had borrowed.Fun but short....oh well...this weekend will be the Big'un....So LETS RIDE!!!

Hey Ebear and Al, GREAT RIDE! For those who missed todays SCAB ride, it was hot riding with hot roads and hot sweepers. A stop at the Punch Bowl State Park allowed us to see local residents in person, such as snakes and a live owl we could actually pet. I think I put in close to 350+ miles on the bike.

Eric, regarding the November ride, I don't recall we ever went down the Palms to Pines Highway to Palm Springs. It is an awesome road (I have ridden it many times) with huge sweepers and fairly new pavement. At the bottom of the hill, at highway 111, there are gas stations and food. I say, go for it!

Here is a quick 8 minute video from the SCAB ride. Taken as we were leaving Newcombs and stopping to wait for the rest of the pack at the upper Tujunga turn off. The original video is much better quality.

Wow!!!!...I'm amazed how steady your video appears with that "HERO" attached to the front fender! I kinda figured it would vibrate alot when I saw the fender move when you where changing memory cards.Does it have diferent lens zoom settings? Have you shot from other mounting points?Very cool!Next time lets pick a real "Swoopy" section and do a couple of runs!I like the aspect as the front bike changes direction while you are still leaned over. Thanks for sharing Ken!!!

Yeah I was surprised at how steady it was as well. Then after I got to thinking about it the only potential issue would be the flex of the fender which does not seem to be an issue here.

I had tried mounting it to the underneath of the fairing but could not figure out a way and also make sure it was right side up.

Since then I have found the setting for flipping the picture so "it shows up right side up".

I would think if I mounted it on the underneath of the fairing that during suspension activity the picture would go up and down.

Only complaint I have with the camera is battery life. Only about 1 full 2 gig card and another about 1/3 and the alkalines die.

I had some rechargables with me but when I placed them in at Newcombs the camera turned off about 10 seconds after being turned on. I still want to try some lithium ion batteries.

Go figure I tried the recharables at home for a few minutes and the camera stayed on and recorded with them. I have some more videos I am working on.

No looks like the lens is fixed.

I get incredible life from Lithium-Ions in my canon S5 pocket camera.I can only get 50-70 pics from Alks but 200-300 with Lithiums and can recharge about 50-60 times without degradation!Definetly WAY worth it in cost. You can find a charger with batteries(4) usually for $15.00 and just batteries for 8-10 bucks. What did thet camera cost? I'm thinking about a few for track days....

Cost of the camera was $179.99. I also got the tube mount option for $19.99 not sure if I will ever use the mount but never know.

Now I have seen Lithium AAA batteries. They are not rechargeable. I have not seen any Lithium Ion AAA rechargeables. Got a link?

These are the rechargeable batteries I bought. They are NiMH batteries 850mAh capacity.

Off topic: Does anybody know a good leather tailor in SoCal?
I need a leather jacket tailored and also a zipper sewn in and matched for a 2 piece 'race' suit, plus some other items.
I've got a local guy thats good for simple stuff and the only other reference I have is mail order.
Any ideas?

Thanks

I know when I was at one of the Love rides a few years ago in Glendale there was a leather shop across/up the street from Glendale Harley.

Not sure if they are still there but I remember buying some stuff and taking stuff into be fixed or altered and they did a good job.

Erik-

The shop across the street from Glendale Harley was Al Bane For Leather. Dunno where he's at or anything, but he did some nice work for Loli at a nice price. The last contact info I have is (818) 957-4182 but that may no longer be good.

-Saro

Al Banes new number is (818) 209-7945. He'll be opening a new shop next week so that number may change, but will probably still be a contact #.
Nice guy!

GOOD NEWS for us SoCal'ers!!

When we arrived at the Gate on HWY 2 at the Wrightwood side...low and behold...there were numerous HUGE concrete I-Beam Spans to repair the road!!!
They actually are going to repair Hwy 2 and RE-OPEN IT!!
YAhoooooooo!!!!!!
This road has been closed since the Eighties and it eliminates the ONLY mountain crossover road from La/Orange counties to the desert.Looks like instead of blasting out the cliff side they will just span it.CAN'T WAIT!!!
