Hey Guys,
Aron went down pretty hard this afternoon. I'll leave the how to him, but her's the what. We were on the way up to detroit and a few turns after the country store Aron ran wide and off the road. Not sure exactly how much contact, but at the very minimum he clipped the guardrail and was thrown over the bars. He landed on his back about 20 feet form the rail near the river.
There seemed to be no head injuries, he was lucid and talking moments after we got to him.
There seem to be no spine injuries, he could feel and move toes on both feet.
His right knee and lower leg were in quite a lot of pain, he MAY (Sorry I don't know for sure) have contacted the guard rail with his knee.
His left arm was hurting pretty bad as well.
His abdomen was pretty sore.
Took about 10 minutes for the local search and rescue team to get onsite, 45 minutes for the ambulance. Paramedics loaded him on a backboard and transported him to Legacy Emanual. I called his wife and followed. I hung out at the hospital long enough to make sure his wife was OK, and made a polite exit. The'd done X rays of the Leg, arm and abdomen and were taking him into CT scan when I left. I've asked Melanie to call me when she can to keep me posted, and I'll keep everyone up to speed.

Bottom line, he'll heal up OK, but is going to be pretty sore for a while at best. If you're the praying type, put his family in your thoughts...

Paul

Thanks guys.

Right now its mostly my right side that is in pretty good pain.

Nothing broke but the nerve in my right leg has some pressure agianst it causing the leg to be pretty much useless. My ribs are really sore which makes crutches really tough to use.

Its weird only being able to flex my foot in one direction No motor skills moving it up at all. So everytime I try to lift my leg my foot dangles like a limp fish. The muscles behind my legs is super soar and feel torn but they were not able to tell from just X-rays and Cat Scan.

Looking at my injuries and where it hurts again this morning I think I flew over the handle bars landed on right forearm and chest and then flipped over on my back. This also explains the scuff marks on the front lower of my helmet and the cut across my chin from the strap.

At this point I am not even able to drive a car because of the lack of right leg function.

On plus they also found a cyst on my left kidney.

I was taking several nice corners at a comfortable pace and for some stupid reason I took my eyes off the road to make sure everyone was hanging with. When I looked up the next corner had turned into a 20 mph decreasing radius corner. I made the mistake of slamming my brakes too hard standing the bike up and then target fixating on the guard rail instead of leaning and looking around the corner. The speed was not really any faster then what I done before on that road.

next time some one else can lead so I don't have to think about my pace being to fast or slow.

OUCH!

Swede, sorry to hear about the crash. Hope you're back in the saddle pronto.

Seems the crash bug is spreading. My neighbor Mike -the guy I rode with 2 weeks ago when I low-sided on an oil slick- stopped by the house last Thursday to inform us he went for a ride with another neighbor Paul last weekend: seems a couple of kids on bicycles veered into Paul's path, and his emergency stop low-sided rider & bike (new VFR). Result was lots of damage to both rider and bike: classic shoulder separation, multiple arm fractures, etc. This was only a mile from our street.

Neighbor Mike now has 2 strikes: two neighbors in left-side, low-side crashes, within 2 weeks; poor guy's feeling awful about everything.

Be careful out there!

Does seem that I've heard of several smaller crashes this year. Not sure if it's because there really is more or if it's because the group of people I ride with has grown so much.

Heal up quick Aron. If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

Thanks Jim. You didn't miss out much on this ride. LOL

I will not be getting my bike picked up today. They want $660.00 to get it out of towing storage. I will let the insurance deal with it. Just waiting to hear back from the claims department.

Aron,

Yikes man. Glad you are okay. My wife and I will keep you in our prayers. Ironically I missed the ride because I was teaching motorcycle safety this weekend. Hope you heal fast and look forward to riding with you again soon.

Just got the call today. Cost to repair is $8,216.27.

Pretty much everything got tweaked a little.

Yes less damage I think but the hospital bill will most likely be as high with that nice 1 hour ambulance ride.

Yes! But with my luck it will be some huge deductible for the ambulance ride.

Healing is very slow. but I am getting some feeling back into my leg which is a good sign. It seems that each day new areas start to hurt and new bruises show up. My leg has also swollen to the point the skin hurts. Pretty nasty looking.

Still cant drive because there is not enough control or flexibility of my leg.

As far as pictures I still have not seen my bike in person. I do have some pictures that Nate took and sent me. I will get them posted up.

I will know the outcome with the insurance on my bike by Tuesday. The insurance adjuster is currently reviewing.

Aron- What's your plan for the repairs? Having the shop do it, or do you have the option of taking cash payment and DIY?

Mark, I am still waiting to hear back from my insurance company to see if they will repair or total. If they don't total it I will most likely just let the shop do it. I am not that interested in stripping it completely down. I don't want to bondo the frame for one it's a little micky mouse for two I think the front of my frame is tweaked as well because the steering pin and steering head is all bent which means stripping the whole thing down.

If they total it I will find out what the salvage value is. But because I have a loan I am not sure if I can buy a wreaked bike back on a title the bank owns.

Well this is depressing. Seems a XB12Ss with 17K miles on it is not worth all that much in the eyes of an insurance agency. What they are willing to give is much less then NADA or KBB retail. Looks like I will be a couple thousand in the hole and no bike.

I should know by Tuesday the final outcome.

Went through a similar experience when my car was stolen 10 years ago. The insurance company will always come in low right away. You may have to show listings of similar bikes at a higher "for sale" price to get more money out of them. It's pretty much bull$#!+, but you may have to. I wouldn't accept their first offer and if you decide not to either, don't deposit or cash any checks from them as they will see that as accepting the offer.
