Lo, You not exploring Whistler when it is in your area sounds like us and Mt. St. Helens! I never had been up there until we rode SPLASH for the first time 5-6 yrs. ago! I will miss you all to and really do wish that we could do the whole ride. Maybe next year!

Good Job Lorraine!!
Everyone should have a look at the new edition of Canadian Biker. Lorraine has provided some photos of the Rippin' up the rockies though I think one of the photos was from 2002 Border Raid.
It looks great.
Congrats Lo! See you at Border Raid 2003.

My putrid piece of motor-sadness is still fucked up beyond repair. Damn noise gets louder the more I cry... I may have to ride that freakin' Beemer once again, And that's just not right.

Hey ya know Galen... you looked great riding the Beemer - but I feel your pain. Nothing beats your own ride.
:)
Harv, you're on the ball! I just got my copy in the mail - they requested those photos and even the one of last year's Border Raid, lol... I told them it was from a different ride, but hey they printed it anyhow. It's kinda hilarious because that BRAG ride didn't have the same dynamics as our group rides. At BRAG everyone scattered or broke up into smaller groups and never a large group such as shown beside Seton Lake. :D
BTW,
The photos from SuperSPLASH 2003 Revisited are hot of the press!

Remember their loaded with photos so will take awhile to load if you're not on a supersonic internet connection. Enjoy!

Ride on,

Hey, I just booked lodging for the Border Raid:

Saturday night at the Blackcomb Lodge in Whistler for $105, and Sunday night at the Boundary Motel in Osoyoos for $68.00. Parking is included for both nights.

The Blackcomb Lodge is a room with two twin beds and the room at The Boundary Motel has one Queen bed. Both rooms have a cable TV and a bathroom but not much else.

I'm straight, reasonably sober, don't smoke, go to bed early, and don't snore. E-mail me if you want to share a room. Posting on the board doesn't count.

To all Border Raid participants;
As previously posted, we're all staying at Whistler for Saturday night. (Hey Ray_Maines, how'd you get the Blackcomb Lodge? We were told it was a 2 night minimum stay!)
For Sunday night, we're in Penticton.
Osoyoos is 40 miles past Penticton which would only make an extra 1 hour and a bit travel time for our friend's across the border's trek home Monday.

Thats if you ride slower that 40 mph. Like anyone rides that slow! New travel time under 30 min.

Funjimmy... perhaps I was accounting for turning around and doing it again! LOL... not really but it sounded good.
Harv, did you get wind of the Blackcomb Lodge for the one night? I guess it's kinda late to change now hmmm?

Eric made our reservations so I'm not sure if they are changeable or not. We stayed at the Blackcomb Lodge a couple of years ago. It is crawling distance from Citta (the location where the debauchery started last year). I seem to remember the vague impression of a tall curvy cop (female, thank god) handing me a Smirnoff's Ice..........it must have been a dream.

LOL... yep, it was a dream and unfortunately I had the same one! And let's just say... I AIN'T INTO FEMALES! :D
But don't worry, she was just impersonating. (A cop, not a female!)
I still have the little bottle cozies she gave us.
The Coast Hotel isn't too far away. Remember where we had dinner with Erik Buell at BRAG? It's the hotel across the walkway from that. Citta's a little further staggering distance than Blackcomb Lodge, but hey, we (hopefully) won't know the difference at that point! Cheers.

Lo.

Littleone, did you find that pesky mouse yet?!?
Maybe let him stay for the weekend and keep an eye on the place while you're out riding on BorderRaid. LOL. You know... water the plants... feed the cat... :D

Hi everyone, hope all those fires are out by next Sunday. I'll be providing lunch for all at the House of Buell on Saturday from around 12:00 to 1:00. Not sure what to ride, XB12R or XB12S, it's tough.

Hey Stu,
YOU'LL BE RIDING!!!! YEAH!!! :D
Now, are you sure lunch is then? Cuz I remember showing up at noon last year and all the grub was gone! LOL. I guess I'd better get there early.
Hey, if people show up as early as they did last year, get someone to phone us! We're on file, right? :)
I think we'll be having a few guests stay with us, but haven't heard much yet.
We're concerned about the fires in Southern BC as well. We may have to detour if the roads are closed. (Better bring a map)
Ride on...
Lo

ATTENTION BORDER RAID PARTICIPANTS,
Sorry for yelling guys, but these Southern BC Wild Fires are giving us grave concern about our motorcycle ride coming up next weekend.
It's highly possible we will not be able to ride anywhere near Kelowna and the surrounding area due to out of control fires. It doesn't look good folks. :( Fire covers 170 square miles and gaining 300 feet/min! We may have to change plans for Sunday night. This could pose a problem for reservation cancellations. If we act now (or within couple of days) we may be able to cancel reservations in Penticton (Or where ever you've booked for Sunday night) and book another night in Whistler (for example). Just ride the surrounding Duffy Lake area perhaps. Input from all participants would be great. I'll repost this in the other StormFront to ensure everyone sees it.
Hoping to see everyone regardless of this dilemma!
Ride on,
Lo

I guess all we can do at this point is the rain dance. We'll deal with the fires by keeping track of where they are and staying the hell away from them. I think Eric and Jim are pretty knowledgeable about the roads in the interior. At the very worst, we may have to ride to Lytton and return to Whistler and drink whatever is left after Saturday night! Either way it's going to be great to hang with the Hooligans.

Would you like a menu, sir? No thanks. Just a bowl of stewed crow, please!
Jim and I did the short route (back through Hell's Gate) on Thursday. Had a great run from Cheakamus Canyon to Whistler by scooting up the shoulder for a mile or more past all the cars waiting at the construction zone.(Don't worry, they don't do that on the long weekend.) Had a totally clear road all the way.
Following that, had a great run up the switch-backs and on. I got to lead from the lakeside stop to Lillouette and had an outrageously fast and fun romp! Took a line of five cars just before the final hairpin. Smoothly, safely, and with style! We planted ourselves at Mugs and Jugs with a big grin on our faces, hadn't been there for three minutes, and an M2 pulls in. When the rider entered the bar I did a quick search for something witty to say so I said the first thing to come to mind. (That's how I get myself in sooo much trouble.)
"Hi there. I don't remember passing you so you must be going the other way!" LOL!
Thus we met Steya. And I got my ass stomped on the ride, with him leading, to Lytton. Put Jim in a spot to protect our honor and keep up. If I want to put my money where my mouth is I better get the damn suspension sorted out or retire this old relic.
Passed an interesting fire near Boston Bar. Tractor-trailer unit went of the road, on a straight section, and took out the only lamp standard in twenty miles. We figure sparks from the electrics of the light ignited the diesel from the truck lying on its side. Burned the tires off the rims and the fire had climbed to the top of the ridge. Helicopters dropped buckets (very tiny and ineffectual buckets) as we watched. I hear the highway was totally closed not long after.
As for our plans, I think we'd be safe with getting to Penticton via Keremeous and up the Green Mountain Road, to double back the next day. No fire problems Lytton-Merrit-Aspen Grove-Princeton-Keremeous-Penticton. Keeps us together until Keremeous with the stubborn, ignoring-me-bastards that are heading for Osoyoos.
My wife just got back from Westbank and said that a new entertainment form has arisen by going to high points on the west side for a view of the fire on the east. (My operations manager's retirement house would be one of the fuel sources for said entertainment, unfortunately.)
I don't think that there would be any issues if we were no further north than Penticton, but coming past Kelowna from the north, on the Westside Road, might have some smoke visibility problems. If you all think bailing for a second night in Whistler is better, I don't mind but I don't think its necessary.
A decision soon is, however. 48 hours cancellation notice, I recall.

I'm bailing, or rather, I have bailed.
I've cancelled my reservation in Osoyoos and made a reservation for a second night (Sunday, Aug 31st) in Whistler, at the Blackcomb Lodge.

Call 1-800-hello bc (435-5622) and see if there is any room at the inn for you.

Hi everyone, I have spoken with Don & Lo and we'll let everyone know on Wednesday about the fire situation. I don't think we should panic just yet, we'll find our way around them.
Eric, Steya is a wild man who'll school most on his M2. Can you believe he's one of them bus drivers.
Later, Stuart
