Kim, Let me know what your plans are today. I was thinking of maybe riding over to help you greet the gang. Chris had to work this morning and gets off at 1 so he will meet up with us later. Just don't want to be sitting home all day when it could be a great day to do some riding. What time are you going out to the Destination?

Good Job Lorraine!!
We have a celebrity in our midst. Everyone should have a look at the new edition of Canadian Biker. Lorraine has provided some photos of the Rippin' Up The Rockies Brag Ride, though I think one of the photos was from 2002 Border Raid.
It looks great.
Congrats Lo! See you at Border Raid 2003.

Anybody in or near Tacoma want to go for a bike ride tomorrow? Starting in my driveway at about 8:30am, leaving for Mt. Rainier at 9:00am.

I live on the corner of North 10th & Proctor St. in Tacoma and my driveway is the one with the black Triumph in it. (253) 752-2028

I'm thinking about 250 - 300 miles altogether.

Hey, I just booked lodging for the Border Raid:

Saturday night at the Blackcomb Lodge in Whistler for $105, and Sunday night at the Boundary Motel in Osoyoos for $68.00. Parking is included for both nights.

The Blackcomb Lodge is a room with two twin beds and the room at The Boundary Motel has one Queen bed. Both rooms have a cable TV and a bathroom but not much else.

I'm straight, reasonably sober, a non-smoker, go to bed early, and don't snore. E-mail me if you want to share a room. Posting on the board doesn't count.

Mike, Kim, it was great to see Code Red race.

Mike, I hope you have told Kim that you're glad she didn't get hurt in her valiant attempt to save your bike from it's inevitable tip-over. Bike scratches are only money. A wife like Kim is priceless.
Ok, so she's grounded from ever riding your bike again, that's reasonable.

What is a girl to do? Went out riding on Sunday with a group of about 7 and left Destination in Beaverton with our final "destination" to land us at Cody's race in McMinnville. We were out on some of the finest country roads when a big ass buck (deer) came running across the road from out of no where! I was on Mike's Daytona and ever so worried about the deer that was right in my way! The damn thing was ready to fight so there we were, just me and the deer! I put out my foot and tried to kick it away but the damn thing ended up getting me right in the side of the leg and managed to put a few scratches with his big ass horns in the left side engine case. As it lay near death in the middle of the road, Debi being the hooligan that she is- got off and kicked the damn thing in the head and killed it! That sounds much more exciting than what really happened! Being short (5'2'') certainly has its set backs and boy did I find out about that this weekend. OK the truth is...... I was riding Mike's bike and we came up to a stop sign, (since I am so short I am always careful to make sure there are no dips in the road that might cause me to have lack of footing) stopped just fine, the bikes in front turn, move up stop just fine, then move up again and shit...... no footing to be had on the left side, the bike started to go over and I held it for as long as I could.....once I realized it was actually going to go over and OH SHIT it is Mike's bike and OH SHIT this has never happened before..... what do I do? So I tuck my arm and left leg under the bike as far as I could and let it fall on me! Chris Taylor was right behind me so he gets off his bike and comes and picks mine up, I'm screaming f' f' f' f' f' f' f' f' f' not because I am in pain, but because I am pissed and trying to figure out how I will explain this one to Mike! Needless to say there was minor damage (wife speaking here) according to Mike "you can have it now! It is wrecked I don't want it", (scratched the mirror, 4 little scratches on lower side plastic piece, both foot pegs scratched, scratched the engine case and bent clutch). Once it was picked up I got on and off I went, no other incidents. Just the dreaded "Honey I dropped your bike".

I go to Portland motorcycle tomorrow to order the new parts. I'll let you know how much it set me back!

Grounded from ever riding the bike again, hell no! I'm not going to let a tip over keep me off! (I sound tough now, we'll wait and see how much the parts are, then I'll make the final call) Bad thing is that both bikes are about the same footing wise, but at least the triple has frame sliders. You know Debi has always said, "there are two groups of riders those who have dropped their bikes and those who will", I thought screw you I will never do that! Well guess what I am an official member! Mike isn't real proud of this one though. Everyone tried to make me feel better.... Chris, "oh that is a really bad spot right there", Lonnie, "I've dropped mine in the garage before", Debi, "Shit Bob dropped his yesterday".... and then there was the guy who kept saying, I have never dropped any of my bikes, well it is just stupid and costs to much money. DUH and thank you! :) :) :) Good thing I can laugh and I still have all the confidence in the world, I am just going to order some platform riding boats so I can keep riding on and improving the skills! Need to work on pumping up the bi-ceps too! Oh did I mention I didn't get a thank you for sacrificing your body, no instead I got a you could have done more damage to the plastic doing that and shoving your boot under the bike like that! Well well, the whole thing was pretty f'n stupid! Big brother Matt could totally be the one to blame for turning me onto the bad boy in the first place. That is the bike, not Mike! If he wouldn't of asked me to ride it home from SPLASH, well I would have been on my bike and tipped it over! :)

Kimi, right you are about the boots! Can easy give ya two inches without feeling too weird. And I'm SURE that Mike is only thinking, "...Now I can get a new bike...hmmm..." so don't sweat it!

sooner, Galen

Mike, If I’m reading Kim’s post correctly, you still to have a few lessons to learn about being a good husband. The bike has already hit the floor and you can’t change anything that has already happened. At this point you can’t do anything about the scratches and dents. It’s all damage control from here on out.

All you can do now is to kiss her owies and tell her how much you love her. Tell her how bad you feel about the physical and emotional pain she has suffered. Tell her how you feel responsible that she was injured and sorry that you didn’t protect her properly.

In fact, you feel so bad that you’re going to sell that dirty rotten Daytona for whatever you can get. No loss would be too great. Tell her you are going to buy a bike that she would feel more comfortable on, like maybe a new Yamaha R1. Tell her that you’ll personally put the first 25,000 miles on it just to make sure it’s in proper working condition. Heck, you’ll even quit your job and dedicate your whole life to riding motorcycles just to make sure that the love of your life is safe. Tell her you would be willing to buy a brand new bike every year just because you love her so much. Hold her close, kiss her and say “I love you baby and nothing is too good for the woman I love, not even a brand new GSX-R1000.” It might work. Maybe.

Kimberlie... OMG! I really feel for you girlfriend! Funny... I think Don would have reacted in much the same way that Mike did. LOL... Sorry I'm not laughing at your expense, just the typical reactions from the guys that deem a motorcycle has to LOOK perfect in order to RIDE IT well. :)
You are one brave BIKER CHICK!! Way to go. Get back on and don't look back (well... ALWAYS shoulder check, but I think you know what I mean!).

Hey Ray_maines, as previously posted we're all staying in Penticton on Sunday night. Is there a reason you're staying in Osoyoos? It's 40 miles past Penticton which would only make an extra 1 hour and a bit travel time on your trek home Monday.

Be nice to spend the night socializing with everyone. Who else is opting to snub us :) and stay further south?

Kimberlie,
I'd stick with the deer story :).

EVERYONE will drop their bike at some point. Heck, even FMJ, one of the best riders I've had the priviledge of touring with, dropped his S2 on the ride to Portland. Still, I know how Mike feels. After I dropped my S3 in hail a couple years ago, I couldn't look at it the same any more...it wasn't the same perfect machine it was before, I know where every little scratch is. But that fades away.

Joanne was real cool about me bending both rims on HER SV650 when I hit the rock on the way back from SPLASH. But of course, I get to do all the fixin...

Al
