I went down to Southside yesterday and talked to Duc for a while. I also got to demo the new 1125R. OK, I want that motor in a XB frame! I would want a little more grunt off the bottom but love that 10,500 redline. Since its a cafe racer Im sure the gear ratios are more top speed but if you could drop the ratios a little, YIKES! That motor has a very European feel to it, (Rotax duh). I have KTM's in the garage and still to this day regret selling my 625 Supermoto, (Super Hooligan bike). However nothing has as much grunt as the Buells!! You guys on the southside are lucky to have Duc down there, good guy and he actually knows something about Buells. The folks at HRHD will sell ya one but thats about it. I order the Acerbis Diamond headlight yesterday, wait till you see this headlight on a Buell (sinister). Gonna wrap the headers tomorrow and rip it up this weekend. Later gents, time to make da donuts. The wrap helps, it works even better when you use an accommodating ceramic based paint. But, with the limited research that I did, I found that the BEST way to attenuate heat transfer from the headers is to utilize a good ceramic coating. I found a difference of 50F on average, on the header itself. As far as acoustics... it's a little more difficult to subjective when working with cars, but the idea is that ceramic coating on the inside of pipes can smooth out the flow of the exhaust pulses along with helping the exhaust retain the energy from heat, while wrap will just help with the heat energy. The differences of energy retention (stock vs. wrap) ideally would change the properties of the wave energy of the exhaust pulses, and therefore change some acoustics. It definitely keeps the heat down. Having ridden two strokes I have a moderate understanding of acoustics, back pressure and heat transfer, especially in the expansion chambers of two strokes. That "powerband" most novice riders talk about is all do to the pipe(big fat pipe, little stinger) and porting. From what I have gathered, 4 strokes are all about heat and sound wave. In layman terms, "Its easier to push exhaust gas through a hot pipe(coated/wrapped) than a cool pipe and a smoother inner core reduces exhaust "friction" if all that makes sense. Ceramic coating are the way to go, more air out = more air in. Definitely worth discussing over a beer. Boneshakers anyone?
