FB&D - Thanks : )

Spectrum - It's pretty similar to the Firebolt. I actually can't think of any differences between the 1125r & Firebolt ergos, though I suspect Spike or Rubberdown can enumerate some.

For roads with twists, I much prefer the ergos of the Firebolt to the Uly. I know I'm significantly faster on the Firebolt. I think most of that is just feeling more confident on the bike.

I find the Uly's ergos significantly more comfortable. I might be able to get used to longer rides on the Firebolt, but I don't know if I could ever sit on one for 15 hours. A person with younger knees might be able to pull that off.

Thanks Jim. I think my knees would do fine, it's my lower back that I'm worried about.

On the other hand, with a set of risers and lighting pegs, I don't think the ergonomics would be that far off from by XB9S. I'm not going to be doing any 15 hour trips, but I'm fine on the XB9S for 4 - 8 hours at a time.

Kristi,

I think we have finally decided on a Logo to be attached to our little corner of BadWeb. I have also concluded that the image needs to be a ".gif" file. But what size does it need to be and where do I send it to get it added to the site?

Just send me a pm with the details when you get a chance.

Thanks, Mel.

My thanks to Ulywife for rounding up the C3 crew and to Mikethebike for hosting our event yesterday at Ray Price. I enjoyed meeting everyone. And to top it off, one of the most beautiful days to ride in weeks!

Congrats again to Big Jim...BadWeb MAN of the year!

Jim very nice shot!
Is that Großglockner pass in the Alps?
Did some time in Germany and Italy in the AF. There is '92 HD sportster chrome all over the roads there....mostly from my pegs and mufflers. Oh to have had a Buell back then.

Flyn - It's some place called Stelvio. I found the picture on ADV.

I assume you're still up north? I've got so gear to get back to you.

Mikethebike,

I sent the Thank You E-mail to the Administrative address on the Ray Price site. I figured to get backing for future Buell activities you need to grab the higher-ups by the Buells...er, maybe I meant something else - or did I?

Did anyone else send an E-mail to the Ray Price dealership thanking them for the event?

Feedback and participation are 2 very effective ways to show support. If WE don't support dealerships that are attempting to show support for something we LOVE, their support of our love will dwindle...

Sorry - I'm off my soap box now,

We did get your mail Brankin. Thanks for the feedback. My GM actually gave out "atta boys" because of it. I know December can be hectic, but who would like to meet up here on a Sunday after our 1125R comes in? Maybe do Michael's and then ride to the dealership. Just a thought.

Pa47 - so glad you had a chance to come out and meet the C3 crew! You'll find that the rest of C3 is pretty much like the few you met on Sunday.

JimN - great job! Seems everyone enjoyed themselves. You're a great storyteller.

Maybe it's winter setting in, or residue from all the theraflu over the past two days, or maybe just thinking about buying a Ulysses makes you crazy; I don't know. I've been looking over these guidelines this morning:

http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm? DocID=1

I've done 500+ miles in a day on the Firebolt with lots of long stops and minimal preparation, so I figure 1000 in a day on a Ulysses with some planning is semi-reasonable. If I'm going to ride 1000 miles I'd prefer to end up somewhere other than where I started, so no circle routes. As an added bonus, if you wake up the next day 1000 miles from home and are feeling particularly gnarly, you could ride halfway back and turn it into a Bun Burner 1500.

Mike it is funny that you posted this. I read about the Iron Butt Rally in Motorcyclist last night and the thought of doing the Saddlesore crossed my mind. A few riders from ncsportbikes.com recently did the 1000 on sportbikes including a 12R. I did a 1000 miles on the Concours, but haven't tried the Bolt yet. Who all is up for it?

At the BBQ, my friend Ron (the one on crutches) asked me to do one with him this spring. I'd consider it. I did a 900 mile day in 15 hours on a Sportster a couple of years ago. whew! My wife just signed me up to run the Umstead trail marathon in March. What's up with these endurance events. I'd rather run moto ST endurance at Daytona!!!

Doing it on the Firebolt would leave me with a different strategy. I *know* I'd be beat after a ~1000 mile ride on my Firebolt, so I'd probably switch to a circle route so I'd end up back home when it was over. Fuel range also becomes more of an issue as I don't think I can count on my XB for more than 150-160 miles from a tank consistently. I don't think I'd go through the expense/hassle of an external fuel cell, but I would want at least a jerry can with me as backup since I'd likely be riding as far as I can on each tank. There's no way I'd even attempt that sort of mileage on the stock seat, but I do have an airhawk pad floating around the garage somewhere.

The closest I've come to an Iron Butt ride is coming back from Homecoming. It's doable, but it hurts. I didn't plan any 1000 mile days in my recent trip. The closest I got was the Seattle to Sunnyvale leg which google said was 880 miles. I took a slightly different route, had a couple of closed roads etc, so I know it ended up being over 900. I doubt it was 1000 though.

If I was gonna plan an Iron Butt ride ... : )

I'd wait till Jan or Feb when it's unbearably cold, take off on a Friday morning and head south. I'd spend that night in the Keys. Bum around on Saturday enjoying being warm. Perhaps Saturday night, we could ride up a bit north of Miami to shorten the trip home. Sunday we could ride home into the cold (but with a tan.) We might even be able to talk women into coming with us, given the destination. Or we could pick them up at the Miami airport.

I like the way you think Jim. Mapquest is showing 925 miles from my front door to Buffets place.

It's been nipple exploding (far from unbearable mind you : ) ) cold every morning this week during my commute.

Hoping all goes well with the motor transplant, I'm in. I like Jim's idea, head south! Only prob I would have would be shedding gear. I know I could do it on the S with no problems, well w/little problems anyway. But we'll see what else comes up.

Happy ThanksGiving to all.
