Paul- Last weekend your uncle and I went for a little ride. I looked on a map and it's not far from Mckinnzie Bridge. We ended up on Hwy 22 at Detroit Lake where Hwy 224 meets. I thought it would be a nice way for you guys to travel to Splash via Portland. Check it out and maybe Bob can give his 2 cents. Mike

Just want to say hi and introduce myself to the group. I am a new buell owner, been riding a sportster for years and have had the bug for a long time to move into a buell. Finally found the bike I wanted at my price and rode it home from way south texas to tumwater wa back in april. Had a minor fall on the way back and just had surgery a couple days ago to put a plastic stap into my shoulder and pull it back together. (the story of my trip is in the tales section under "My Texas Trip";). So anyway, I live outside Olympia/Tumwater and my wife and I ride, a lot, and she now has my sportster and we just sold her old xs650. I have 5-6 weeks before I get the ok to get back on my bike which means I should be able to attend SPLASH (that is the ride around the volcano?). I like that ride and do it usually a half dozen times a year. Keep waiting for certain sections to just swallow my front wheel but no problems yet. (this is all hunt and pecked with my left hand, another week before i can type like normal) The weekend before splash we will be in Winthrop for thr blues festival and bar hopping, my brother and his wife are renting a house in town for 3 days/2nights. Room for 10 and it is about half full now. Still have some room if anyone is interested as well as room to tent in the yard. The more people the less it costs. The other folks are all your typical hog riders but not hard core. So enough rambling for now.

Welcome Shane. Once your healed up it would be nice to see you at SPLASH. Not to worry cause I'm not your typical sportbike rider since I look like a hog.
Anyone up for meeting the northern rainforest on the backside of the mountain? I'll be leaving early in the morning from NE Portland. Disclaimer- plan on brisk pace if interested. You know what I mean. I'm not taking a camera to take pictures. Mike

Welcome Shane. Glad your here, hope you heal fast and well.

The last time I was out on a "brisk" ride with Mike very bad things happened. July 7th, 2002 it was. I remember it well. Sort of. Actually, I remember being told about it later. Anyway....

I saw a 750 GSX-R today with the coolest vanity plate:

Sunset Thunder Club: meet at Destination at 10 AM on Father's Day. Meet Buellnuts at 11:30 AM at Cougar or 60 miles later at Windy Ridge Viewpoint. WE will take the shortened Splash route to Packwood and back. Motorbikemike, meet us and bring Kim. Or just send Kim.
Chris Taylor gave me the official route sheets today. I want to get them to you Bob, so you can trace the route over the next few weeks to see if there are any problems with them. Chris and Loni are off for a honeymoon on the beach starting tomorrow, so they out of pocket.

She looks like most of the old bats I take cars of daily. My crappy bike has who knows what the fuck all wrong with her useless self. Will go tool shoping this friday, can't do nothin' till then. I'm about as destituted as a boy can be. Bettie gave me the best ride I've had, and then I limped home. Both again and for the last time. I can't trust this bitch anymore.

Shotgun- I would love to go and ride with you all, but I don't have child care for little Cameron (18months) and he doesn't strap on to well to the back seat yet! SPLASH is a little more technical than our ride last weekend and I am afraid I would hold you guys up anyway! This is after all a "Father's Day Ride" and I would rather my "HOG" (see post above from MTRBKMIKE) go alone and have a "brisk, non-photo takin', kick ass, lean lean lean good time!" You will have to post and tell what I missed though.

Bi-cilindrico- That is awesome that you are going, I hope you make it to SPLASH and bring your wife too!

The "Hog" huh? Something tells me he wouldn't like me to call him that. He just might call me a female dog - well you know!

Kimberlie :)

Speaking of "Hog", I took the '89 Electra-Glide out for 125 miles today. Nice to stretch out (see hwy pegs) and relax and find big sweepers and not too many hairpins. Monday I will rejoin the sportbikers for the Cycle Barn ride, which starts at 9 AM and will tour Whidbey Island.

PreSplash Crash. About 13 miles north of Cougar on state 83, mile marker 3 just after you pass the turnoff to the climbers bivouac. It is a downhill righthand decreasing radius turn. 15 MPH sign exists coming uphill. None going downhill. Shortly after that the road is trying to slough off into the river. Didn't make the turn today. My butt looks like I used it to squash a barrel of grapes. A sore wrist and a few bruises from the fall down the 20 foot embankment. Bike lost all the plastic, lights, lenses, mirrors, Kuryakn air intake, brake pedal, etc. But when they winched it up the hill, it looked... well who knows? See what the insurance boys say. Thanks for the help of Chris Kleps who rode for help and sawed down some young trees to make a path for recovery.

Oh OUCH! Sorry to hear that, Steve. I think Mt. St. Helens just doesn't like M2's, it eats them for lunch. A year ago I slid into the wall rather than over the edge. And the result:
Dead M2

Steve, Sorry to here you and the M-2 flew. As Ray stated, St Helens has something against M-2's.

Jesus, she's eaten 4 of them in 12 months and she'd eat more if there more to eat. I think she has a thing for Triumphs though. Our ride was Fantastico!!. Me,Deb, Mike, Steve, Ray, Lyle and Theresa done toe up dah Mountain "G"'s

Let us know if we can help you get the M-2 re-skinned and back on the road. Heal up and Hair over Steve Glad you didn't get hurt to Bad.

Uncle Bob, Galen, Mike, and others. I wrote a nice long, complicated and descriptive post about our trip to Pt. Arena and the abalone/bike riding we did this weekend, and it seems to have failed to appear. Maybe I pushed the wrong button.

Anyway, we had major fun. Wicked Speed from Labusa joined us and gave wheelie lessons, the lad can ride!

Your pics from the Detroit Lake area is what got me motivated to try to find the perfect route from Ophir OR to McKenzie Bridge. We have the first part sorted out, (from Ophir to Roseburg) but haven't ridden the part from Roseburg to McKenzie Bridge.

The best looking routes appear to have gravel stretches, and I'm not sure how the 'Fornians will like gravel. Guy and I are going to pack light for an overnight and do some prospecting for the perfect route, possibly next week end. If you guys could ride down, we could rendexvous for coffee and hello howdies, somewhere around McKenzie Bridge?

Lastly, it sounds like that M2 eating mountain of yours needs us to bring the big bores (Hayabusas) up there and teach it some manners.

Ride safe but not legal.

Paul
