New12r....how things goin'? Been meaning to call but...well, you know.

We been fighting some colic and acid reflux. It's trying at times but she is just so damn cute, I feel bad for her little tummy. We are going on our first road trip this weekend to my Mom's to hang out with them and my sister and kid.

Hope everyone is doing well, I think we need more baby pics up here. Stealth this is a message for you when you get a minute,as well as all the cute babies!

Man i had to tell you all Hayden slept last night from 10:45pm til. 4:45am this morning.. woke up for 20 minutes to eat , got a clean diaper, then back to sleep til 8: 45 am. i haven't slept like that since i can't remember. But i love every minute of of it and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Ohhhhh nooo! THAT ain't happenin'! If I have to break down and get a new bike!

Don't get me wrong, the Blast is better than not getting to ride at all but honestly, by the time we get anywhere I'm shook up, beat up and slap worn out!

It is funny though how the Blast use to intimidate me. Now it seems like a mini-bike. I just hate it cause I was finally beginning to be able to keep Kdan in my sights, even after not being in the seat for over a month. Now we add another month in. Before long it's going to be like starting all over again.

But Chahhhhhlie, Kdan and I both have faith in you, especially when it comes to this sort of thing.

Day seven: Shenandoah Mountains

I set out east on highway 50 again and spent most of the day winding around at 55 mph. 50 had some really fun, fast stretches, including one that reminded me a lot of 60. At the bottom of that run, I stopped at a gas station, and a truck I'd passed earlier pulled in behind me. The beautiful woman driving it said, "Hey, you're a lot better at those curves than I am." In hindsight, I probably should've said something clever about her curves. I had on a helmet, after all.

From 50, I headed south across a couple of short interstate jumps and connected with the Skyline Drive just south of Front Royal, VA. Skyline Drive runs 105 miles through the Shenandoah National Forest before becoming the Blue Ridge Parkway. It costs $10 to get in, so have some cash handy if you go. The views were amazing, of course, and there was a ton of wildlife. The deer are so used to people that you can walk within a few yards of them. The road itself was nicely curved and well maintained, but the 35 mph speed limit was maddening.

I stopped off at a hiking trail called Dark Hollow Falls and trekked 1.4 miles to get a picture of the water fall. The Alpinestars held up well, and my ankle didn't do too badly either. After 4 months with no cardio, I expected to be winded after climbing back up to my bike, but I felt surprisingly good. Oh, and no one stole my gear while I was gone.

I made it about half way down the drive before I stopped for dinner at the Big Meadow Lodge. I considered moving on after I ate, but I came to my senses and realized there was no point in riding through a national park at night. I still wanted to get some good wildlife pictures, and I didn't want to hit a deer or a bear.

Day eight: Back to the Blue Ridge Parkway

I started south this morning from the Big Meadow Lodge about half way down the Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah National Park. The desk clerk warned me there was some loose gravel further down the road where road crews were repaving, and he wasn't kidding. A not-fun 25 mile stretch was completely covered in crushed gravel.

After 50 miles, the Skyline Drive turned into the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I was back up to 45 mph again. The weather was perfect, the road was all but deserted, and I really had my suspension dialed in. I finally got rid of the last of the head wobble when I checked my tire pressure and realized the front tire had gained 4 PSI due to the elevation change. The Avon Storms seem more sensitive to over inflation than my old Dunlops. They felt very solid once I got everything sorted out though.

I hit the low point of the day when I jumped off the Blue Ridge Parkway for gas. When you search for gas stations on the Zumo, it gives you distances as the crow flies. That's fine for the interstate, but 5 miles quickly turns into 15 miles in the mountains. I found myself in a city named Stuarts Draft. It was noisey, crowded, and dirty in stark contrast to the Parkway, and I HATED it. I couldn't get back up the mountain fast enough.

On a positive note, though, Reed Gap Drive where I exited and re-entered was fun as hell. It wasn't very long, but it had some 15 mph corners and elevation changes that would make baby Jesus cry if he could flat foot a Ulysses. I wanted to photograph it, but there was nowhere I could pull off where my bike wouldn't topple over.

I spent the rest of the day riding south on the Blue Ridge. I got pretty sore, but a nice stretch out on my back on the warm pavement of an overlook made it all better.

Heading west into the sun wasn't great. Coming into a corner and being blinded by the light sucked. Having the chorus to the song "Blinded by the Light" stuck in my head for hours sucked more.

This is pretty much the funniest sign ever. Where was this when I needed it on Wolf Pen Gap??

I finally met one of my goals of photographing a bird in flight. Check out
this buzzard:

And my Uly turned 10,000 on the Parkway:

Someone at SMHD is going to have their work cut out for them cleaning off bugs when I bring the bike in for its 10k service.

I stopped for gas again in Floyd, VA, and I matched my best gas mileage of the trip. I ran the Blue Ridge north in 3rd gear at ~3.5k RPM. The bike loved that range. It really wanted to leap out of the corners, and I got about 55 mpg. I ran back south in 4th gear at ~3k RPM. It was a relaxing cruise. The bike really wanted to go faster, and I got almost 59 mpg.

I'll jump back on the Blue Ridge tomorrow morning and ride it out down to its southern end. Sunday I'll head south on 19 and probably run back to Atlanta through Suches.

Got your message yesterday morning C-stud, I just haven't had a chance to call you back....so you remember the ol' process then...thats great! I ended up setting mine up the same way we looked at yours, and I have to say, I'm impressed how quiet things can get when you don't have that chain rattlin round.

Ended up having to work Friday night so I din't go to Kentucky...If anybody wants to go out on a Saturday adventure to hunt for some curvies down in Newton/Butts counties, lets hook up.

Hey Shred, I'm coming home on Sunday. I'd rather be at VIR for sure, but I can't get out of any more work for a while.

> Man Sanchez.. it looks like you are having a trip of a lifetime!

I am, for sure. It's really nice to get away from it all. No crowds, no noise, no set schedule to keep. Just wide open mountain roads.

> why not scoot through Huntsville, AL on your way home?

I'd love to, but won't have time to make it over there. Maybe next year I'll ride further west.

> "The Sanchez Reports" make me wish I had a Uly!

Everybody should have at least one Ulysses. My Garmin took me on two dirt roads hunting for gas yesterday. On any other bike, I'd probably have been pissed.

I don’t know why but I guess they are just too busy to reinspect the engine work they just got done doing.
I swear one day I will open up a service department for Harley it must be a license to steal no matter what you do to your customers there will always be some other as$ hole with a broke Harley product waiting for you to fix it.

The Super Duke was cool, but no Buell. The KTM demo rides were alright, not as big a crowd as March Badness. I think if I were spending $14k on a bike, it had better be way cooler then what it was. Bambi had to ride the Blast up and I went up on the KLR with my kid. It was a good ride, with very little traffic. Bambi thrashed the Blast. She wants her SV back.

Rode 10 hours today. Checked into a hotel and decided to go get some food. Almost too sore to move, but my first thought was, "sweet, I can ride some more."

It's a sickness. I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbuell!

More later if I ever get Best Western's wifi working.

Day nine: homeward bound

I rode south on the Blue Ridge Parkway for 10 hours today and covered about 340 miles of it, with some side excursions for gas. I didn't lollygag much and didn't take any pictures.

I stopped at a "trading post" (read: gift shop) on the Blue Ridge expecting to find some locally crafted goods. I was sorely disappointed. Most everything there was made in Mexico or China. It's a sad state of affairs for such an iconic American road. I did find some hand made beeswax candles made by a local family, and I bought some on principle.

Riding west into the setting sun sucked again. My love affair with the mirrored visor is definitely over. When riding into the sun, it creates a reflection of my face on the inside of the visor. I tune it out when I'm on the highway, but it really gets in the way when I'm riding in and out of shady patches.

On the other hand, my love affair with HVMP bar end weights has just begun. The Uly didn't vibrate much anyway, but hours of riding would still leave me with sore, numb hands. This trip, my hands haven't gotten sore at all.

South of Asheville, I found an unexpected sight in my mirror: a big, round headlight and an asymmetric flyscreen. "Damned if that isn't a tube frame Buell," I thought. Sure enough, we went through a tunnel, and it sounded mean! I pulled over to talk with the rider and found out he's an X1 owner out of Macon. We rode like Buelligans for a few miles until he pulled off to meet up with a friend, and I kept going.

I wanted to make Cherokee, but I ran out of daylight and butt. I checked into a hotel and unloaded my bike, at which point I decided to ride out for dinner. I found a Hardee's, bought a burger, and went back to the hotel. After riding 1800 miles with every piece of luggage I could stuff on the bike, I didn't bring a damn bit of it with me to the restaurant, and I had to ride back to the room with the food stuffed under my jacket. Oh well, at least it was warm.

I should roll back into Atlanta some time Sunday evening.

Ok yall we need some prayers for Xbullet.

He was taken to Grady this morning after a nasty meeting with a fence. I have little details other than he prolly has some broken ribs, shoulder damage, and was conscious and telling folks he could feel his legs.

The how is still fuzzy but it looks like his chin fairing came off and bounced the back end into a tank slapper.

As I get more details I will keep ya posted.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Brian. Get well soon.

"and I bought some on principle."
Sounds like something I would do.
Today I stopped at a little country store / gas station on 129. When I went in to pay for my gas, the woman behind the counter asked me "How much (gas) did you get? I had to go back out to look at the pump; none of that high tech stuff at that country store. I should have bought some home made candles.

Good to get out.
I can report that Buellish and Mountain Rider are as friendly as ever; it was great to see and talk to you guys.

I got stopped by one of the local county LEOs on 180 headed towards Suches. He was headed in the opposite direction. When I saw him I slowed down, but he turned on his lights and I pulled over. He said "Take it easy out here and slow down. I don't want to have to pick you up out of the ditch."
A couple of polite "Yes sirs" and I was on my way again to TWO riding riding slower.

We should put together a motorcade for him. Glitch, you could ask Ann to make some meatloaf. She should probably also make some for Brian.
