Bomber- July 28 was the weekend for me. Aug 4 has conflicts on Friday and Sunday. Thinking about riding out to meet you on Saturday for the rest of the ride or departing with you on Friday and leaving the ride early on Saturday evening to get back for Sunday. Wait.... isn't Kurt K racing of Friday the 4th? If yes there is a triple conflict for me on Fri. Why the f@#! can't my social calendar be this full in the winter?

Everyone,
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the Galena Run because my schedule is booked solid for the first weekend in August. Yes, Saturday August 4th is my other day to race at Route 66 in Figure-8. Once again I am looking forward to it, however if there are people deciding on whether to go to the race or the ride I'd say take the ride. I say this because my car sustained decent damage in the last race and even though this damage will be repaired for the next race I can't guarantee that it hasn't made the car weak in way that it won't fold up again in another collision which could mean another early DNF for me. I hope not I really want to hang in there and tangle with my friends out there. I'd hate for everyone to come out to see me race and have me get slapped around and be out early. At the following meeting I should finally have the video of both events ready to show the group so don't worry about missing it. I will be at the next meeting, so I'll see everyone there.

It is still some time off, Sept. 08, but Moto GP has announces a race date in Indy.
This would be the best chance to see a GP race and the GP racers this close to home.
<http://www.brickyard.com/> I'll be going,
hope everyone is interested.
Also, apparently Buell is ahead of the game for making plans now. I know some of us just returned from Homecomming, but dates and events for the big 08 25th anniversary event should be announced this week.
Anyone want to book something in Elkhart Lake at the places that fill up a year ahead? I had always wanted to stay there, at least once.

Last,

Count me in for the 25th anniversary, I can keep my calendar clear. Wait, I did that this year...and they moved the date on me. Well maybe that was because of my comments about the Uly to staff at previous year's luncheon? Hmmm and now they come out with that beauty, 1125, Kismet? I think not.

Paul,
I'm in for the Elkhart Lake stay in Homecoming 2008. Please include me in the reservation. I can't wait to test driver an 1125R.

The Sept 2008 Moto GP race at Indy sounds fun as well and will attend also.

Bomber-

My Aug 5th event has been pushed back a week so now that weekend is looking much better for me. At this point I am good to depart Chicago on Saturday morning Aug 4th.

All-

Another interesting possibility for the Wildcat Mountain run is to do it on Monday Oct 8th and have it be part of a triple event. The idea: Depart Chicago the morning of Sunday Oct 7th for the Slimy Crud Run. After that head to Wildcat Mountain and spend the night. Monday the 8th ride Wildcat Mountain and then head to Elkhart Lake, Wi and spend the night. Tuesday Oct 9th is a Buell sponsored track day at Road America where (rumor has it) the 1125R will be available to TEST RIDE. Spots still available for that track day. Thoughts??

If nobody can take off of work there is another option: Wildcat Mountain on Saturday Oct 6th and Slimy Crud Run the following day.

JOhn's got a good idea, no doubt -- for those who aren't gonna be able to take those days off, and for those others who remember how loony SW Wisconsin can get around the Crud RUn (which I DO plan to attend) -

anywho, long winded answer -- I was thinking late August or Late September --

Weekend of August is out for me (Peoria) as is early September(Srpingfield and a trip to the gap) --

or, perhaps I should just post a date and see who shows up (laughing)

Bomber, your thought of posting a date that works for you and just seeing who commits is not unreasonable. It's tough trying to accommodate everyone's schedule.

John,
As usual I applaud your ability to make motorcycle events your most important priority and plan your life around them. I am jealous my friend.

If anyone doesn't have anything to do tonight I'd suggest riding out to the Team Demolition Derby at Route 66 Raceway. Come out and root for the team I pit crew for Team 7 "Killer Bees". The action starts at 7:15pm. Its great action! Latter All.

I'm just about to mount up and ride...unfortunately it's to work but at least I'm on the bike. Despite some fines and points deductions The Killer Bees won the night on Saturday! I'm getting ready to get back behind the wheel this Saturday for Masters of Disaster II if anyone is going or not going wish me luck. I'll talk to everyone latter, ride safe and hug the curves!

Sorry to all,
But I will NOT be racing this Saturday night August 4th at Masters of Disaster due to the damage the car received last race and the lack of availability in my fellow racers in crime I'm unable to repair my steering for the event. I'll be able to explain everything at the meeting tonight. However I will probably race the car at Sycamore Speedway or at a county fair in a demo, I'll keep everyone posted. I'm looking forward to riding though; I've had a great couple days riding to work and its been great! Thanks everyone for supporting my racing efforts its really helped me get back into the whole racing experience. I'm already in the process of building big plans for next year. See you at the meeting.

Hey all! Greetings from Indiana....

Hey, I have reserve duty at Great Lakes once a month, but am out of a bike because mine died...Blew a head gasket and I think the starter seal. So, oil everywhere.
Anywho, I don't know what the schedule is looking like for me, but is there a Buell dealer that will let me rent a bike? I just want to ride in the city....

Hey Wilson,
How was the Buell stunt show?
Yes there is a rental dealer, but not too close to Great Lakes Naval in Waukegan, if that is where you are. 1hr drive.
<http://www.wildfirehd.com/miscpage_008.asp>
Call James Wallish there he can tell you about them. Riding in Chicago isn't always a whole lot of fun. Traffic, etc. is sometimes heavy, but it is probably pretty interesting if you are from out of town.
The closest dealer is proably Lake shore HD, I don't believe they have rental Buells but they are good about test rides if you just have to take a ride.
Now go rebuild that motor.

Well, glad I decided against going to rent a bike...Would have been a waste of money as it's pouring right now!

Anywho, once the bike is done I'll ride up here as long as it's going to be a nice weekend for my next duty weekend!! Usually first weekend of the month..

All,
MASTERS OF DISASTER was rained out at Route 66 Raceway, hence with the soon to be announced rain-out-day, I may just have a second chance to get back on the track and spin some laps. I'll keep the group posted.
Talk to everyone latter,
Kurtis

Bomber,

How was the Guitar Festival in Bridgeview?
The crew has not finalized a run to your "Mountain Magic" ride do you have alternative dates in mind beyond what was previously discussed?
Also, a Buell event returns to Suches GA in October. Hmmm turning leaves and turning pavement could be an awesome combination. Just some thoughts,

Keith

I'm pissed off at my Uly as she may not be healthy in time for the 8/16 Autobahn Country Club Track Day. I had a rear wheel bearing failure today. I got it into Conrad's HD/Buell this evening and the parts are on order, but the part delivery may not get here in time for me to attend the track day. Conrad's Service is going to do the best they can to get it done before track day.

I just had my Uly in two weeks ago for a broken drive belt which was warranty replaced so I'm losing a bit of confidence in the reliability of my Uly. I did get a warranty replacement muffler to replace my rusted original muffler. I paid extra for the ceramic coating to prevent future rust problems and it is bright silver and looks kick ass.

I've had ups and downs lately with my Uly. I hope she recovers after this bearing failure and makes me happy again.

Here is the Uly rear wheel bearing failure thread which shows quite a few of us are having this problem.

Hey Marc-

That sucks about your bike. I was up at Hal's Harley not long ago and was looking closely at a Uly that was in for the same problem. I saw that the rear wheel bearing on the drive belt side had a seal that was all shredded up. I read the thread that you linked and noticed that everyone seemed to be blaming the bearing for failing. My thought is that your broken drive belt and the bearing failure are probably related. Something like the belt tensioner on a Uly is set to hold the belt way too tight. Or better yet, maybe the suspension geometry (height? amount of travel?) of a Uly puts too much pressure on the drive belt somehow, making it too tight and pulling too hard on that bearing until it fails. Just some weird speculation on my part, nothing anybody can do until an official diagnosis comes out from Buell. If I turn out to be right remember you heard it here first!

Hope you're rolling by the 16th.

John

John,
Wow...thanks for your thoughts. Your wild speculation makes a lot of sense as my replacement drive belt only had 50 miles on the bike before the rear wheel bearing on the drive belt side failed. I'd have to agree with you and will mention this to the service department the next time I check in on when the repair will be complete.
