When I did my lone track day at VIR with Sportbike Tracktime, they allowed me to wear my mesh but it had to have the liner in it and I had to wear a heavy shirt under that as well as I had to wear two pair of jeans under my over pants. I looked like the Sta-Puf marshmallow man that had been dropped in the camp fire, and hanging off the bike was an impossibility, I had fun, learned a lot, and went as fast amy bike would go!

lol - I was calling to see if you wanted to go for a ride. That was Saturday right? I ended up in Souther Pines. Saw Mike, he said you and L were down to see his leather guy.

I got dinner from Rachael. She sat on the Uly. She can actually touch the ground! I was impressed.

Wellthe only things the Buell front end installis waiting on is me rebuilding the forks, and powder coating the triple trees(one they come back form having the bearing pressed off.)

Have a guy who wants to look at the forks, and he works for sheltons so I just might hand them over to him for the work.

Once they are rebuilt it is jsut a matter of getting some little off he shelf stuff(brake line and fittings) some wiring. thats abouts it

Oh no......let me ask the Puerto Rican!

I should tell you that Carlos is usually late, so his clock either doesn't work, set wrong or he just doesn't use it......

Little book says:

1 Turn ignition key to ON
2 Press mode (M) button to toggle to clock display
3 Simultaneously press (M) and (R) buttons for 2 seconds or until clock display flashes
4 Press (M) button to set hours and (R) buttons to set minutes
5 After time has been set, simultaneously press (M) and (R) buttons to exit setting mode and start clock operation.

Man - That is not fair! I have vacation time too, but I did not think about taking time off. The Van is in the shop so I have been riding to work since Thursday. After 12.5 hours - I just cruised the Uly home. Very relaxing!

265 hrs vacation, 745 hrs sick, 184 hrs bonus leave banked so far. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to just up and take leave without planning it. I'm waiting for July/Aug when my son and I will be gone for 27 days in New Mexico and Colorado, back packing, camping, and exploring on the motorcycles, Can't wait!

MBIV's just around the corner! Got some new tricks for the bike .... and hopefully my XM radio setup will work out for the cruise there and back.

Thanks Kristi, I just reset the clock. It was very easy with your instructions.

I'm dyslexic. Not bad, but it drives me nuts to read technical information for details. It's very benifical to my sanity to have you summarize it for me.

I go away for a day and no one posts. : (

750 miles yesterday. Went to Deals Gap, had lunch with mom. The first 550 miles are fun. Getting home after it's all over sort of sucks. I actually took some pictures this time, I'll post them tonight.

My day was not as good, rode to work and the bike started acting weird on the way home... after calls to Brankin and several others panicing about doing a clutch....ends up looks like it is the release bearing, so that is a much easier swap. picking that up this afternoon and tearing into the primary this evening, gonna pull double duty and replace the bearing, flush the primary and put on my new freshly powdered primary cover. Hopefully the $12 part will fix it.

It wasn't even cold when I rolled out of town a bit before 6:00 am. I wasn't in a hurry and wandered around as I made my way to Greensboro. The new lights were awsome. They make night riding much more pleasant. I love being on the road when the sun comes up. As soon as it did, I stopped and found a place to have breakfast, another of the pleasures I enjoy.

After eating I got back on the road and took 311 around Winston Salem rather than riding through on I-40. It's still a highway, but a little more interesting and less trafficked than 40. Besides, whenever I ride 40 through there in the mornings, I always see people getting tickets. Perhaps a good stretch of road to avoid.

I got to Asheville around noon and gave my mom a call to see if she wanted to have lunch with me. She wasn't home, so I found a little bbq place and had a sandwich before heading on to the Dragon.

As 74 gets close to Deals Gap, it starts seeming less like a highway and more like a recreational road. It's got long sweeping turns which are fun to ride with out being so challenging that you can't enjoy the scenery. A few miles beyond that I saw the signs to Fontanna via Highway 28.

Twenty eight is my favorite stretch of road, I like it even more than the dragon. It is not quite as twisty as the Dragon which lowers my stress a bit. The scenery is gorgeous. It runs next to river comming out of the Fontanna Dam. The water has a dark green color, almost like ocean water.

I got to the store sometime after two. It's definitly the off season. The store was open, but undergoing major construction. There were perhaps a dozen bikes in the parking lot. I parked next to this GS, bought myself some water, and sat down next to the bike to people watch while I drank it.

gs

Then I took off to make a run up to the overlook. I have to be in the right mood to run the dragon. If I'm not, I just worry about crashing the whole time and it's not a lot of fun. I wasn't really in the mood and it just seemed like a long road. I passed a pullout and decided to just turn around and go back to the store. While I was turning I saw that the overlook was one turn away, so I kept on going.

There were a few people at the overlook, but they all left a few minutes after I got there. I don't think my pictures can show you how scenic the area is. I really like the way the water looks down in the valley.

I left the over look and road back towards the store. I passed the killboy guy and made a point of taking a turn looking all "pretty." Then I turned around and went to talk to him. He was a very friendly guy. I was worried that I'd be bothering him, but he actually keeps a chair up there for people who stop by. Some guys in a pickup truck stopped so he could take a picture of their burnout. We all took business cards:

killboy

I asked him if he knew the guy on the firebolt. He doesn't, just liked the bike. I've hear he likes Buells, at least from a photographic standpoint. I guess it's true.

I found my rythem on the way out and enjoyed the ride back to the store and back down 28. Bet this hurt:

bridge

As I was going down 28, I saw a red sportbike in my mirrors. I figured he would want to pass, so I motioned him by. He didn't pass me on that section, so I sped up so I wouldn't hold him up. : ) He kept falling further and further behind. I have to admit I find that an ego trip. After I crossed the bridge over the river I didn't see him any more.

There is a fork a couple of miles down the road. Instead of following 28, as I usually do, I took the other side, which promissed to lead to the dam. I park at the dam and a red sportbike pulls up next to me:

ben

"Hey, were you behind me on 28," I ask. He was. His name was Ben and he was down from Kentucky. We walked around the dam together. It is difficult to show in pictures how big this thing is. It's the largest in the eastern US. Notice the cars at the bottom of the first picture. Apparently this was the dam Harrison Ford jumped off of in "The Fugitive."

dam1

dam2

We spent about 30 minutes there and then I headed back to Asheville. I had a brief dinner with mom, who was home this time, and then headed back to Raleigh. I got in right before 11:00 pm. It was good to be home.

Sometimes I can't explain to people why I like to just ride. They just don't understand. I think you captured what I like most perfectly.

Thanks.

Great ride Jim, but if you get bored just riding the bike around, you can come work with me.

Twig - that sucks! Maybe they can figure it out so you'll have your bike at MBIV. If not, Carlos is riding one bike and I'll be trailering the other one. I'm sure you'll have something to ride!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again!
