Thanks Jerry. I've been reading "Out of Words" and Gwen's Alaska stuff. I'm beginning to see that if you want good pictures, you have to shoot them of something other than the bike. I'm branching out. : )

When is the Buell Track day at VIR? And who do I contact to sign up if I get some leathers?

Thanks

Cyclone - Sept 12th I believe. Go to Buell's website under the "Owners" section. It has all you need there. I do not have leathers so I am signing up under Novice.

Twig - That does suck that you are having problems with your bike. I hope they get it fixed before MBIV, no reason not to.

As for the October date, we need to plan for it. I am planning to do some kind of a ride to the mountains in October. I do not know if we want to do another Western Adventure like last year, or just make it a day ride. I was thinking about it this week.

MBIV - March/April
C3 jr. - May
Advride - May
July - Homecoming?
September - Buell Owners - VIR
October - Western Adventure??

That's what I am thinking about for the major tours this year anyway. I would also like to have a weekend or two at my Father-in-law's place. It's just a few miles from F&D and would be a great place to base out of for some north of the border raids.

Jim- 750 miles on a whim is quite impressive. The most I've done in a single day is ~600, and that's while trying to get somewhere. Perhaps it's just a mental thing, but I have it stuck in my head that the dragon and back is too far for a single day and requires an overnight stay and at least a modicum of planning. Maybe it's time for me to give up the clip-ons and get something more suitable for wandering . . .

Thought I would let everybody know, I just got back from HD High Point. They did a system check and found the voltage regulator is bad. I'm pleased thats all it was. They had to order the part, should have it within a week. I guess it could have been worse. Total was $126. Time to pull the wheels off today. See you people in a couple of weeks!

Yes, but you're on a Firebolt so you get extra credit. ;)

750 miles is really too far for a day trip. The last couple hundred miles suck and there isn't much freedom to just explore things or get off the bike. It's a compromise I make so I only have to take one day off from work and so I'm not away from Rebecca on the weekends.

I'm fortunate in that my work situation doesn't require me to preplan my vacation. I'll usually mention to my boss the day before that I may not be in tomorrow, though on occasion I've just sent "I'm taking vacation today" email. I enjoy the adventure and freedom of just deciding to hop on the bike and go. I also like not having to plan the rides.

I've discovered some nice roads up around Wytheville, VA, which is significantly closer than Deals Gap (200 vs 350 miles.) I was considering going up there instead, but I was just there a few weeks ago. The roads were also in awful shape as well. I think I'll give them some time to clean them up a bit. : )

Jim, how many miles to Roanoke? Cause once I get my Uly back I think our local roads make "The Garden" look tame! No offense, I know how much you like those roads but... I can basically pick a direction and smile the whole way. NUTS

Jim we have got to get together and do a ride! 750 mile day trips ARE what I'm talking about. Do enjoy the time to stop for photo's/explore but sometimes it's great to just . Excellent job, caught it on ADVrider also.

Nuts - It's about the same distance either way. I think Roanoke was 189 miles. I might even get the g/f to run up there with me. She doesn't like twisties, but she could shop while we ran around.

As soon as the bike gets back (fingers crossed) I'll be back at it. Here's a preliminary list to google earth.
Route 311 from Salem to Paint Bank.
Route 43 from Eagle Rock to Bedford
Route 221 from Roanoke to Floyd
Route 8 from Floyd
These are but a few of the more prominent roads, these do not represent the smaller, lesser known backroad plethora. Please.. subsequent ride reports must NOT include road names so as to keep my speeding ticket count in check! NUTS

Ok, I'll keep an eye here.

I haven't done a long ride in a wile so there is definitely a itch that needs to be scratched and soon.

Twig- if you don't get your voltage regulator for some reason my spare came in. not sure if it is the same part as your XB9. My number is Y0302.02A8. PM me if I can help.

Well I did not post here but I got my tranny fixed, ended up being a $12 release bearing, but gave me an excust to replace the primary cover with a nice powdered one I had lying around. Jim and ROM stopped by as I was buckling it up, but in my exitement I forgot to tension the primary chain (doh!) but it looks to be good now gonna go on a nice long cold test ride.

1313 - I am glad Webe was able to get your nut off!
Okay - I just had to say that
.
.
.
I was able to work on my Tuber as well. Made progress, I changed out the leaking oil line, changed out the Oil. I removed the old grips and made a new (recycled) pint bottle as a catch can for the transmission. The Tank Bulb idea did not work. It was too wide to put anywhere but over the rear tire. I recycled the old engine vent line to protect the new rear cylinder spark plug wire so it does not chafe again.

So all I have left to do for now is get a new vent line for the engine and install the new grips. Later I have two more leaks on the motor I will have to get fixed before September, but I want to start putting some mileage on it because I believe the sitting around is gonna make the leaks worse from lack of use.

Jim - Nuts - Fly - If you're having some kind of Uly convention in Roanoke let us know. I know Webe is itching for a ride and if I can squeeze it in, I would love to go. The day I found US-52 through Jefferson National Forest because I was trying to save the center of my rear tire (Cord showing) the road had just been paved. They had not yet painted the road lines on it. A true treasure on a worrisome trip.

Spent the weekend camping and repelling off the cliffs at Crowder Mountain State Park. Hmmmm, stepping off high cliffs backwards into a strong winds? Seemed like a bad idea at the time but turned out to be very exciting. Now, I'm ready for some ground based two wheel excitement! Hope everybody had a great weekend.

It's Alive! It's Alive!

The M2 is back together and after charging the battery during dinner, I rode the M2 for the first time in months. Man that bike has a lot more low end than the Uly. On my first left hand turn off a stop sign, I break the back tire loose with out trying. I hope to continue test riding it over the next week and if everything is copacetic, I may ride it to the Dragon next week. The new Traction grips felt great for the short jaunt I took tonight. A definite plus that I may need to put on the Uly.

Jim - Loved the pics.

Rubberdown - My brother use to love repelling. I never had the nerve.

Man a trip to the emergency room for that would be embarrassing

Rode the M2 to work today. I took the long way home and the bike is back. It starts like it use to. Push the button and instant run. I have to get use to the petcock again though. I fired it up in the parking lot at work and some of the Fab shop was on break and they were looking over. Backed the bike out of the parking spot with it rumbling away and then just as I line up to take off...it dies. Scratch my head to figure it all out and I remember to turn on the gas!! It fires right back up and off for a 45 minute ride around the back country. I did miss that bike.

"I line up to take off...it dies"

I hate that when it happen's! Ha Ha I have done that more times that I care to count.

I just repaired my M2 also and I took it out to Old Maple Hill Rd. Sunday for the first time. It does not handle as well as the 12Ss but with the M2's low end torque it sure wheelie's easier!

That is funny. I was telling Webe the same thing. It does not handle as well as the Uly, but the low end grunt is a lot of fun. It's like riding a two-wheeled Muscle Car.

I am still having problems keeping its fluids inside. The book calls for two quarts of oil. I changed the oil out and put two quarts in it. Yesterday I rode the bike to Goldsboro to get the bike inspected and when I got home I saw oil in and around the center of the bike. After a little investigation I see that the plug for the oil tank is popped up and oil running out the top of the tank and down the side. So I guess I must have overfilled it?? There must be enough oil inside the engine that you can not put two quarts in it during oil changes.
