I knew I was missing a deduction on my taxes! It's a friggin' RV!

All you need is a toilet! And that could be a coffee can with a tube zip tied to the bike!

(well, except for maybe Charlie)

I resemble that remark!! But really I ride within my limits(most of the time), it's not my fault I go so fast!

Jolf, Bambi said it. You give up that bike for your old lady and you'll harbor resentment for the rest of your time together. And lets face it, the odds are she'll be gone long before you lose that bugs in your teeth smile, anyway.
Bambi has a great saying,
"There are lots of humans being. I want to be a human doing."
Take the MSF class.

Medved, you're a sick unit. I knew there was a reason I liked you.

I'd like to meet you anyway, and here's an excuse as good as any other.

There are lots of humans being. I want to be a human doing.
That is one of the coolest expressions I have ever heard!

Jolfvr666...
Sounds like you have your head on straight.
The odds are never in your favor when riding;
but you increase them dramatically with gear and rider eduction.
Just account for them as mods for you mind.
And if that is where you are making your investment,
rather than attempting to purchase cool;
you are doing it for the right reasons.
If your significant other cannot appreciate that...
she is only a temporary distraction!

Jolf...allow me a few moments to comment on the whole pissed off girlfriend thing.

Glitch and I have been married for 15 years. Of that 15, Glitch has owned a bike probably about 10 of those years here and there. The one thing that keeps me cool about it is that I trust Glitch's riding ability 100%. I know that he knows what he's doing, he's a safe and conscious rider. He's not riding in a car's blind spot, will go slower than the flow of traffic if need be and is always aware of traffic and conditions around him. He's experienced enough & knows what he's doing.

It is my experience that people who have that fear of loved ones riding motorcycles are just not familiar enough with the safe riders out there. They are basing their opinions and fears on those FOX5 news reports and all the squids that blow by them at 170 on the interstate. We've all heard the stories about the guy that was killed, mangled, paralyzed, has been in a coma for 18 months, etc. ALL BECAUSE HE WAS RIDING A BIKE. But you know what? There are almost just as many accidents that happen in cars that will cause the same type injuries/death. People often ask me "Aren't you worried about him riding that bike to work?" Yeah, I am. But I worry just as much when he's driving his truck. Atlanta is a busy, crowded place and there are only a handful of people who truly know how to drive.

So, take the safety course. Take it slow and don't go "hot doggin'" until you are completely confident with not only your riding ability, but your bike as well. And when you do go butt wild, don't do it in 5pm traffic. Don't put yourself in the situation to be roadkill.

I'm not saying Glitch is a wimpy rider. I know he rips it up every chance he gets. But, when he is, I know that he's doing it in a "controlled environment." He's not seeing how fast he can go down 85, or weaving in and out of traffic up the white line, or being a squid in general. I've seen the pictures of his knee dragging the pavement up in the mountains, and heard how fast he was going. Even though I trust him, there are some things that are better not known. Ignorance truly is bliss sometimes. But even so, I know he knows what he's doing. He's aware of the road conditions & the condition of himself and bike at that moment. Glitch also follows his gut - if he gets a bad feeling about something, he usually doesn't do it.

Having her involved with the riding course is a good idea I think. Get her out there and introduce her to the smart riders that you find. Let her see the guys that are riding for the sheer love of riding. If you do see a guy zippin around town, wearing shorts, flip flops and his squid cape flapping in the wind, point out to her how much of an idiot that guy is, and tell her you don't ride like that.

When she's ready, take her for a ride. I am actually getting ready to start riding with Glitch. (If he ever gets the passenger footpegs on that is - Glitch? You readin' this honey?) I've ridden with him before on a Suzuki that he used to have years ago and I almost made us dump it in a turn because I...me...not him...leaned. The foot peg caught the pavement and make the rear end go all squirrely. But, he was able to get control of it and we didn't go down. Because of what he had taught me, I didn't try to put my foot down or correct the situation. I knew to let him have total control. Once we got parked and our helmets were off, all he was able to say to me was "Don't lean." It was a true pucker moment for me. Because of that, I was scared and never got back on the bike. Something that silly freaked me out so bad that I couldn't bring myself to get back on.

Having 2 teenage boys, who are already picking out which bike they want is a scary thing as well. But I'm cool with it, because look at the group of people who will be teaching them how to ride. I know they'll be wearing their gear and their bike will be in top condition. And if they ever do f^%$ up and wreck while doing something stupid, they know that once they're healed, they got to deal with their daddy.

So, there's my $2.00 worth of advice and opinion. (And as I'm typing this, I hear on the radio of a motorcycle crash. Go f*%^$n figure!) If she can't "come to terms" over your riding a motorcycle, then maybe it's her problem and not yours. Like others have said, if she wants you to give up your bike, where does it stop? Relationships are about compromise - not forcing one to give up what they love just to please the other one. The minute you start that kind of stuff, it's no longer a relationship - it becomes a power struggle.

Sorry I used up all the bandwidth with my post guys...I guess I shouldn't have had that second cup of coffee. Signing off now.

Get that foot out of your mouth.
They have gear, maybe not the biggest assortment, but gear they have.
Try the Buell Puck gloves, I have a pair and they're great. Smokescreen has a pair as well.
Go and see what they have, I'm sure you'll find something there.
There's also Cycle Gear as well, you'll find there what you couldn't at the dealership.

Jolf,
When I got my bike, my wife was extremely nervous. She still gets nervous when I go out to ride.
However, she understands that riding is one of the things that truely makes me happy, and she goes through the stress relatively quiet.
When I leave, I can hear it in her voice when she says "Be safe".
She doesn't give me any grief over it.
Now, when she hears about a crash on the news, she will sometimes say "I hate that you love riding so much, but it makes you who you are." I understand what she is saying, and that she doesn't want me to give it up, she just worries.
It is a tough decision to make, and you are the only one who can make the decision for yourself.
Definitely take her to pick out gear, and get her involved as much as she is willing to. You never know, she may turn completely around and want to ride as well.

Back when I was married, my wife always used to tell me she loved me whenever I went for a ride. I know what she was doing. She thought those might be the last words she ever got to say to me. : (

Somewhat morbid I guess, but it's not a bad attitude to have about life. People are conscious of the dangers riding poses, but it's certainly not like thats the only thing that can kill you. You can have a car accident driving into work, or just drop dead from a heart attach. It puts things in perspective to remember that we are fragile and only here for a while.
