Just got back from WCU orientation, Rubberdown's old stomping grounds. Pat and I got very little sleep in the parent's dorm. Damn glad to be back home. U4euh, once you get those sport attacks on, we'll have to head NW from my house for a day. Some real fun riding up that way. On my way home from Culawhee this morning, I stopped in Hickory and met Kevin Drum at his shop to check the status of my new pipe. He is quite a character, and one very nice guy. My guess is two to four more weeks. He flat out told me he likes to take his time to do it right. He just purchased a red '05 xb12s with 5000 miles...real nice one. He also showed me his "turd" ...96 S1 I think. That's what he called it. It had one of his early fire extinguisher mufflers on it. He even offered to install my new pipe for free if I bring the bike over. Might be worth it. Only 90 miles away from G'boro. Later...

Wish I could make it to the big "kahuna",but won't be able to this year. We'll be taking my youngest son to college at WCU the same weekend. His first year. Won't be easy, to say the least. I went to the races last year and it was one great time. VIR is one first class race facility. If you have never made the trip, do it. Sorry I'll have to miss it.

Thanks for looking Mark! You saved me from having to find it myself.

They got 4 of me. Numbers 151-154. Number 153 is the "oh $hit, my toes are dragging" picture. 152 is my favorite.

Wes is on his way over, and I'm going to take him down tword Lillington.

The event this weekend is an ASRA/CCS thunderbike event. There are other races as well but the twins are what we are going to see.

I went out with Wes this afternoon and had a good time. He rides very well for someone with only a few weeks of experience.

We ran down US-1 to 55, and then took back roads down tword Lillington. Here's a map of some of the route. I can't get google to draw the whole thing because it wants to optimize my route. http://tinyurl.com/zj7ne

I'm on Zeefoto too. They are another business taking pictures of gap riders. Do you remember what day you were there Carlos? I'm going to see if I can find your picture.

Keith - Man I forgot the CCS races were this weekend too. About four of us are going to the Salisbury for the Smoke Out so I won't be able to go. We are planning on making it for the AMA in VIR in late August. Hope you can join us.

Jim N - I believe it was 3/31. I am going to check it now.

I saw a red lighting at Cary Pkwy and Kildaire Farm rd in Cary today about 1pm. Rider had a silver helmet on. I was first at the light, but he didn't see me. Not sure who that could be? Anyone know someone that rides a red lighting in Cary? Larry

AAWWWW$hit- I might not be able to make it to the Smokeout. Found out yesterday that my A/C drain hose wasn't draining, and hasn't been for some time. Long story short, I have one side of the house with no air, a washroom that needs a new floor, and new duct work underneath! Talked to MikeW. tonight and he suggested that it will still be there next week. Still up in the air. XB9ser, I will call you if I will be up that way. No phone call, no Jim.
Carlos and Brankin, if your still coming this way still call me. I am sure If I decide TO do the floor, I could peel away to ride with you through the area.

Awww come on U4euh,

As Mike said, it will still be there next week...

If that don't convince you, listen to this here tale of what I've done since I left work tonight to ensure that I will be going to the Smoke Out.

Since I will be out of town most of the weekend I thought I would stop and pick up some groceries that I will be needing next week. As I am picking up what will fit in the saddlebags and on the luggage rack of the V-Rod I hear an announcement over the intercom. "Whoever owns a silver Harley, your bike is turned over in the parking lot." I think to myself 'Nah, can't be mine!', even though the sidestand hasn't worked exactly like it used to for QUITE some time now. After waiting for the bitch ahead of me to get 43 items checked out in the 20 items or less 'express' lane I meander out to my bike and notice that I can see the underside of it because it is actually laying on it's left side. 3-4 people are waiting around it, one guy who works in service at the () H-D dealer in town and some other concerned people. The service guy said he was there to help me pick it up and to make sure nobody messed with the bike. We eaily got it back up and saw the remains of the sidestand 'system' sitting on the ground. MIA are a 2nd bushing and the cotter pin that should've secured the sidestand pivot pin. The sidestand has a small piece (that we found) broke off of it, the frame where the sidestand mounts was bent until I straightened it after I got home. The left saddlebag's internal metal structure is a little tweaked, but none of the super expensive or highly cosmetic parts were damaged. Calling Shelton's and talking to the Service Manager he said 'I don't know if those parts can be warranteed'. How the hell does one ride a street motorcycle safely without a functioning sidestand? If the mothership won't warranty the parts, I know they all can be salvaged and made better than new. And people wonder how/why the The Factory mantra came up. In fact the guy from the New Bern H-D shop that watched over the bike said he has one at the shop that he picked out of the trash that was warranteed for a paint scratch (although he is not sure if it is the sidestand side or brake side).

Here are some pictures:
Custom, temporary sidestand:

Buell Cylinder sidestand

And, NO, it is not either cylinder from my S2 (you can tell because it ain't scored like my S2 cylinders are - does that explain the need for larger pistons Jim N.?)! But it IS a Buell tube frame 1200 cylinder:

Buell Cylinder sidestand 2

Since nobody likes dirty pictures, I cleaned the bent pieces of the frame/sidestand mount:

Cleaned up

Maybe it's not obvious what is wrong in this picture:

What is wrong with this picture

Here's a pic of one of the bushings (the other one is MIA), the sidestand pivot pin, and the sidestand and it's missing chunk.

Sidestand exploded view

It was dark when I finally got it back in a useable form to get me to Shelton's tomorrow morning (to discuss the details of it while the overflow bottle gets replaced with an updated part that won't break like mine has) so I didn't take any after pictures, but you can call my V-Rod tripod once again.

If I can surpass this obstacle to make it to the Smoke Out, you can surely wait until next week to take care of your stuff. You know it's going to be a kick-arse time and you are gonna kick yourself if you don't go...

So Jim Rainey, what time will you be ready tomorrow?

U4euh - If its been like that for some time, then a little more time shouldn't hurt, right?

Don't follow me, I'll lead you down the wrong path.

I did map a route that takes me through Carthage and down NC24. I'll call you when I get in the area as long as I do not ride with some of the guys from work that are going to the smoke out too. If not, I should be in the area between 2:30 to 3pm.

Hum, Is it me or has that side stand been tarmac milled?

I like the new side stand. I thought with all the problems with Uly side stands that I would be the one with a bike on its side.

1313 - will you take the extra cylinder along, some may confuse the V-rod with a Triumph.

I hope you can get it squared away. If not call me in the morning and I'll put you on the M2 and I'll take the Uly.
