Crud Run was a blast! It was great to ride with the Windy City crew and to ride with all the new people Steve, Mike, Mohawk Matt, Shane and the rest. Hope to ride with the new and regulars soon. I am currently in mourning over Curt's recent loss of his front brake lever and right side mirror, which he'll be able explain to you better than me. Max - feel better and we need to talk about the gloves. John

Here is Curt's Sad Tale.......

After 400+ mile day of down-right fun strafing those wonderful rural roads, a minivan (mom, kids, the whole nine yards) backed into my bike and knocked it over at the tollway oasis on the way home......proving once again there is no escape from cagers! My bike was parked at the gas pump and I was inside with cashier running my credit card. I told them I was paying for pump #10, and they responded with "Oh, you mean the bike that is laying down?" WTF !!! I turned around and saw several people trying to pickup the bike. I really think the lady would have bolted if she could, because she was treating it like she knocked over a kids bicycle or something.

Other than that, a very fine Crud Run.

Kevin.....sorry.....kind of lost you after the first couple turns. :-)

It's Official! Sam's Jam to Joliet has been rescheduled to Sat. July 22th. Kickstands up at the dealership 5:00PM SHARP! Join me for a leisurely cruise and some great fun at the races! Here's some more info on the event.
Sam

Route 66 Raceway will once again host the popular Team Demolition Derby.

Team-Style Demo Derby Racing: Team demo style racing is fast and catastrophic, with 50 mph head-on collisions, heavy side swipes and cars totaled in just one hit. Team demo always has eight teams. Each team has four cars, squaring off two teams at a time, in a round-robin until there's a winner. To win the evening's event, the team must win three rounds.

The one-of-a-kind Team Demolition Derby will have four events at Route 66 Raceway with the fourth event serving as the Finals. Team Demos are a Saturday night favorite for fans who want to see an adrenaline pumping two hour spectacular where eight pro teams face off in what can only be described as roller derby with automobiles.

Tickets $16.00 Adults, $11.00 Age 12 and under
Show starts 7:00 PM

"Sam, no dirt track races this year?"

Nope. Although originaly slated, the AMA and the Joliet track promoters had some problems coming to an agreement on the contract and the race date was canceled. Too bad for the Chicago area race fans, big bummer.

Kirk,

I sat on a Triumph Thruxton and Scrambler on Friday. The Scrambler feels just right (and lighter) compared to the Thruxton, although you gotta love the look of the Thruxton.

I remember a time way back in '78.....the place was an abandoned coal strip mine (not bar ) in Southern Illinois. I was riding my '69 Triumph T120 Bonneville and an ex-dirt rider was on his '73 Triumph Bonnie. The guy fearlessly motored his bike up a very steep and loose 200 foot high pile of mine tailings, then rode it straight down and up the side of another. I had tried the same hill two years before on a 175 Honda Scrambler and fell over twice. It really was impressive what the Triumph could do "off road" even though his bike was a street bike (not the Scrambler). As always, it's the rider.

My first bike was a brand new 1965 Honda CB 160 which I turned into a "scrambler". My second bike was a '67 Triumph TR6C. That was in 1967. It was 100 lbs lighter than the current Triumph. Unfortunately, it was stolen 10 days after I got it. The insurance (after deductible) allowed me to afford a T100C which was really the best scrambler I ever had.
If it weren't for the pounding, scrambling would still be fun.

Damn that was fun!
Despite the rain in the morning, I had an excellent time at Buell Track Day at the Autobahn Country club on May 24. This was my first track day and I'll admit I am hooked and will do my best to make a track day at least once a year. Maybe twice if I'm lucky.

I throughly enjoyed thrashing on my Ulysses and was impressed with how she (I mean he) handled on the track.

As I promised a few of you at the track today, I have uploaded photos from two Illinois Harley BRAG/ChicagoLand Buell events to Kodakgallery.com.

If you want to look at these photos you need to send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE (click on my username Marc, go to the bottom of my profile, click on send a private message) and include your EMAIL ADDRESS. Kodakgallery.com doesn't allow photo owners to post a hyperlink to their albums and requires the photo album owner to invite folks via their EMAIL ADDRESS to look at the albums from KodakGallery.com.

Nothing earthshaking in these photos, so if you were not with the Illinois Harley group at these two get togethers you probably won't be too interested in them.

Album 1 --> May 7 Slimey Crud Run
There are a good group photos here. Lots of pretty bikes.

Album 2 --> May 24 Buell Track Day
not many photos here as we were all too busy getting in the track time we could in between rain squalls.

Marc

They should be provided to you on cd from the dealer you reserved your track pass with.

Hey it's Kurt Kraehmer here; I just wanted to say the first night of the Tournament of Destruction was a complete success! The team I wrench for ROAD RAGE took home the four foot tropheys and the 6 grand prize for fist place after defeating former champions the Junkyard Dogs. I noticed a Buell XB9SX city cross in motorcycle and had a chance to the owner while leaving for the night I told him of Windy City BRAG. Motorcycle parking here is safe and plentiful; no worries. Road Rage would like to thank any of you that made the first night and those of you that will come in the future. I'll see you all at the meeting.

Homecoming was a great time and is already on my "to do" list for next year. The only casualty for the weekend that I know of was Bomber's stator. Bomber- did you get home okay?

While up there I learned that Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI has a Harley Shootout every other Thursday night with 1/4 mile drag racing. http://www.harleyshootout.com
This is popular with Buellers from S.E. Wisconsin and from Lake Shore Harley too. I will be putting together a run up there for Thursday, June 22 for those interested. More on this later........

JV -- yessir, thanks for asking. me and the MaDuece got home in fine form, thanks to the generous action of, of course, Buellers I had never met before --

like the man sez, "I came for the motorcycles, and stayed for the people."

nuff said, but I'll prolly not shut up anyways -- seldom do ;-}
