Hey M2nc,

The Uly and I are still in the bonding process ; ) The front-end swim isn't desirable, but we're getting there. I put the side cases on last night and I like them. (got to lose the grey/metallic color an go all black soon -- don't know how I'm going to do that yet.)

I've got parts coming to change the front-end cosmetics and will do the same to the rear,,,,once I figure out what I want to do back there. Add one pipe and it may grow on me ; )

I still got my M2 just in case. I like it quite a bit and the wife was very happy last Monday when we went rolled up to GFM,,,it was great in the twisties and on the slab home.

Dave,

Unfortunately I don't think I will be dropping in on you on my way home. I am leaving in the morning (put over 1,800 miles on the trip so far) and since I have to be to work on Tuesday I want to do something similar to what I did on the way up. I want to get more than 50% of the way home on Sunday to set myself up for an easier day 2. Since the trip up was just a shade over 1,000 miles I am hoping to get at least 600 in tomorrow and that would put me well beyond the Indianapolis area.

Thanks a million again for the accomodations on my trip up here. Sure wish we would've had time to hang out then.

Big Daddy, the swimming is caused by the tires. The D616 have great grip in wet conditions and on dirt, but their tread pattern causes the weave at speed and a bit of wondering even at slower speeds that make the bike feel a bit unsure lean over. Though I had a problem with the first Pirelli on the Uly, the wandering is gone and the bike is dialed in through a curve. I would advise a tire change as soon as the first rear tire wears out.

I still have my M2 also. Kristi and I had a great evening ride a few weeks back to the coast and I have no plans at the moment of getting rid of it.

The rain you had yesterday is over us today.

Well, that sucks. Sorry to hear about Pete, hope they figure out what's going on. We'll keep him in our prayers.

Dave, have you had a chance to get up with the Buell riders up there?

No, I haven't yet. I attempted to make last month's meeting with the Hoosier Thunder Club but it appeared the wet weather kept everyone away, and I was much late also.

There is someone around here who rides a black S-3 but I've yet to catch him when I'm out. There's also an X-1W for sale up in Greenfield, but I couldn't stop the day I saw it out.

Brankin, You're welcome. Be careful on the way home.

Yesterday, Pauletta and I rode to Bloomington yesterday. Took In.44 from Shelbyville to Martinsville. The first leg was pretty flat and straight but once you get past Franklin, the road became another fun one. It was a nice combination of sweepers, some tight stuff, and some quick rises. It would chang up quick so it kept you on your game and the state had just finished re-paving it so it was smooth and grippy

We stopped in at Bloomington H-D/Buell and looked at all the Buell stuff they had. Talked to a sales dude, Tony, who rides a Buell along with most of the staff there! More employees ride Buells there than ride Harleys according to him-cool! Of course the dealer is involved in road racing with 2 'Bolts and they have an XBRR on order which they hope to receive before the end of the month-again, cool!

From there, we stopped and downed a few sliders, belly-bombs, er, I mean Blanche Chateau y'know, White Castles. After that another run up 44 then on to Indy and the zoo for a company picnic.

Today, I'm thinking of heading for Brookville lake and see what roads I can find there.

Wish all a good week,

Defector-Director

JimR -- this weekend turned out to be a no-go all the way around. We'll get it together sometime! With the rain and me be gone, the pool is still in the container. Maybe we'll get it up sometime this summer.

Thanks for the offer of support and info about my Daddy. Right now we're in the wait and see stage. His right kidney is completely blocked and they don't know why yet. Hopefully a MRI Mon/Tue will show us something and decisions can be made from there. One of the numbers from his bloodwork was double what it should be, so that's the other issue they are trying to figure out. They figure that one is related to his hypertension. Both have to be dealt with, but the blockage has more urgency with it. I'll keep you posted.

We've set a date for Oct. Go to the adventure folder and check it out.

I've been in California since last Tuesday. Yesterday I went to San Francisco, to visit ezblast. He loaned me one of his bikes, and we rode up to Winter, CA. It was a beautiful trip. I've taken a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge now! I've got pictures, but no cable to download them. I can't wait to get them off the camera.

Ed posted pictures in another thread. I have to get back to NC to download them. I went back and flew in the plane today:

I'd have like to take this one too, but it was $300 for 20 minutes:

Hi Everybody! It's been so long since I posted anything I forgot how I spelled my name .

Well today I joined the club. You know I think somebody once mentioned that sand + a curve doesn't equal fun. Yep, I went down in a curve today. You'd have to ask Webe or John where we were cause I just ride, have no clue where we go. Anyway, we went through the first curve pretty good, over a bridge and then I hit the brake to slow down a bit for the next curve (DID NOT brake IN the curve). Well I picked a pretty good line to go for a left curve... only problem was all the sand in my line. I leaned hard into the curve and did good til the back tire lost traction in the sand. I slid a few feet with the bike then the Blast and I parted company. It flipped left and I rolled right. I rolled over between 3 and 5 times but landed in a nice pile of sand. The bike landed in the middle of the road...well most of it anyway. We had to pick up a few pieces, like the headlight ring and a turn signal. No telling how much it will cost to fix it, but I'm fine.

My jacket has a nice large hole in it from the elbow to the wrist where the road ate it up... better the jacket than me . Protective gear REALLY works. My left knee has a scrape about the size of a 50cent piece and my elbow has a small abrasion but other than that I'm great. Really lucky I know. I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow.

I think it scared Mark and John more than it scared me. Mark had already turned around and was heading back by the time I finished rolling and got up. John did a great job stopping in the curve and NOT running over me or the Blast (he said it was close).

I'm ready to ride now, but it will be a while before the Blast is ready to be ridden.

Oh well, if we had ever made that trophy I guess it would be mine for a while, got some pieces to add to it now

Catch yall later,
Ellen

Hope you aren't too sore tomorrow. Take care and post again soon.

Ellen, welcome to the club. Sounds like you were on Old Maple Hill possibly? That curve has collected Mark and myself in the past. Thank God you're alright. Yup, gear does work!

You'll be surprised at how little it'll take to get the Blast! back on the road, they're made to be dropped!

Thanks guys, Dave, wasn't Old Maple Hill road, did that fine last week. It was in Pleasant Hill I think. Right after the bridge in front of the Pleasant Hill grocery. The store was on the left and an intersection on the right (that's where all the sand was). Was just about as soft a fall as you can get...just kept leaning over til I couldn't lean no more...

Not too sore this morning, if my knee wasn't scraped, I wouldn't even know I'd had an adventure.

Mark will have to post about the damage to the Blast. Its funny, the only damage on the left of the bike (the side that originally went down) is a bent shifter peg. Now the other side.... well. Gas tank is pretty scratched up, the headlight and speedometer and whatever holds all that 'stuff' up front is broken. Handlebars are pushed back, right mirror broken. Mark is worried about the forks being bent (not sure if they are) and something in the back is broken. Think the bike caught on something, stood on the headlight and then flipped to the right side, causing all the damage (according to John). But who knows, I wasn't watching and John was a little occupied at the time

Oh, and I had just got my bags last week...Hey what IS it about new bags...seems like they just Have to kiss the pavement...huh Carlos

Well gotta hit the road...(oops, already did that)... I mean I gotta go to school.

Later,
Ellen}

Ellen,

Glad to hear your alright. Love your sense of humor about it. I know how John must have felt, when Mark had his fall in front of me it was a scary sight. You get scared for the person wrecking and yet know you have to maintain and get yourself out of danger before you can stop and help the other person. Hope your riding again soon.

I did some exploring in the NC mountains Sunday. It was the first time in the NC mountains for me. What a blast!!!! It was one of those rides that you did not plan out what roads to ride, you just make it up as you go along. I ended up on 74-A just West on Lake Lure. ( What a beautiful area!) Man those roads ROCK! There was someone from Steelponies.com taking pictures............ Yes I am buying the pictures : ) I will post them as soon as I get them.

Day 2 - Driving through California

Sunday morning I went to the park with my friend David. We took his kids to the park and did the paddle boat thing. I ended up back at my hotel about 1:00PM, which is when I made the decison: Go back to Napa and get a ride in one of those planes.

It's about an hour and a half from Mountain View to Napa. I hopped into the car, found a great radio station, and started up 101 tword SF. I crossed the Golden Gate into Sauciledo, and stopped for gas. There was a fruit stand in the parking lot of the gas station, operated by a buxom young girl. She had a sign out front that said in big red letters "Cherries For Sale." I really wanted a picture of that, but I was afraid she would understand the joke, so I let it pass.

Half an hour later I was at the airstrip. I paid for a ride, and headed into town for some coffee while I waited for my flight time. I came back and they gave me ear plugs and a cloth helmet. Then my plane came in carring the passengers before me:

prior

They showed me how to get in and buckled me in. I was excited and ready to go:

takeoff

I've got a bunch of pictures from the flight, but they don't really mean much unless you were there. Here is the best. You can see we were wine country. Look at all the grapes:

grapes2

It was a 20 minute flight. Time does fly when you're enjoying yourself. I took this one after we landed. Look at the pushrods on this thing :-)

Ellen - Yes I do! I am glad you are okay. Any time you lay a bike down and walk away is a good one. I am glad you are okay. Mark and I talked about the damage to the Blast during lunch, it all seems very fixable.

Cyclone - The NC/GA/VA/TN mountains are awesome. A definite biker's playground. That is why we are planning at least two more trips that way. Kristi and I want to catch up with the Brat Pack II ride in September and then the Western NC ride that C3 is planning in October. I am glad you will be able to join us in October.

Mike - You bum, I wanted to go but had Daddy duties all weekend and the bikes sat. One of these days I will tag along one of your "let's go that way" rides.

Had a great ride up to and in and around the NW NC mountains this weekend. My only goal was to avoid any roads I was familiar with and seek out the most backward knarley little back water ways I could find. Had a great time. Saturday p.m. I started looking for a camp as I wanted to sleep outside. Got good and lost on this really great road and thought I'd just follow it out. Eventually I saw the sign that it was going to turn to dirt but that never bothers me so I kept going. Right as it turned to dirt I saw the big sign "High Country Motorcycle Campground". This big ol' gray bearded, pony tailed fellow comes out and he's wearing.....not a Harley shirt, but a BMW motorcycle racing shirt. I couldn't believe it. Seems I stumbled onto the "sport touring" campground. I was the only one there so we just hung out, had a steak dinner, and checked out the stars. It was great. It would be a great camping destination for C3 to enjoy. Back on the bike about 9:00 a.m. and off for more exploring of the unending twisties. Eventually headed home and after coming though the Uwharries I saw another bike coming my way..... and it was U4euh. Stopped and visited, then headed home. Close to 650 miles. The bike was great. Really fun to thrash. Sorry no pics cuz my wife had the camera at a horse show.

JimN & Rebecca - thanks so much for letting me stay at your house last night. I really enjoyed the company. It's now 8:30 p.m. and I'm home again. The MRI readings came back without any clear answers. Tomorrow they will run dye through Daddy's kidney's to see if it will reveal where the blockage is. The good news is that his creatine (sp) level is coming down and that it has actually been elevated for the past 2 years or so without any change. So we're still in the wait and see phase.

Thanks again and I'll chat with you soon.
