Everything but the filter seems right to me. I like Wix filters. 51394 is the one that works on our bikes.

The oil is H-D oil, so of course it's $9 a quart. Mobil 1 is half that price. The oil filter seems high, by a factor of 2 to 3 times.

Loren,

Where are you getting your Mobile 1 20w50 for $4.50/qt?

I'll go to the auto shop and save myself $10 on the filter for sure. I thought everything else sounded about right except the filter. I've never heard of a $15 filter for a bike or even a car before.

From the owners manual

"If it is necessary to add oil and Harley-Davidson oil is not available, use an oil certified for diesel engines. Acceptable diesel engine oil designations include: CF-4, CG-4, CH-4 and CI-4.

The preferred viscosities for the diesel engine oils in descending order are: 20W50, 15W40 and 10W40."

Mobil 1 15w50 which meets the API CF rating. Buy at Wally World in the 5qt jug.

Oh, I totally forgot you can use other viscosities. I reckon when I read that, I sort of regarded it as "use whatever you need to to get by, but consider yourself lucky if you make it to a HD dealer before the motor frags and sends shards of molten hot metal flying into your inner thigh at high subsonic speeds."

You know what H-D stands for don't you?

HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS...

And the funny thing about synthetic oil is H-D didn't recommend it until they started selling it.

James,

When you get done over there just give me a shout and we can all meet up.

816.721.5935

I have to do the oil change as well so I'm going to hurry home from work and get it done before 6:00 hopefully.

Fester,

Yeah I would have enjoyed some company, especially as I walked down the interstate to get a gas can! I think my next trip will be in mid June for the College World Series (but I'll be staying for a week or so). Let me know when you head up I'm always game for a trip. My cousin's name is Jake Bettin and he is on the OPD.

Things happening this week...just to let everybody know.

Wednesday - Sport Bike Night at Fuel

Thursday - Regular Bike Night at Fuel
Brag Meeting at the dealership

Friday - Any ideas?

As you might have read before, I have to go back to Topeka this weekend for some family stuff. I am probably going to head that direction Saturday morning and go directly to Topeka HD/Buell to see whats up there. If anybody would like to tag along, they are more than welcome. Thing is, I am staying in Topeka till Sunday, so you will have to ride back by yourself. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Does anyone have any suggestions on who to talk to about trading out my wheels? I talked to the guy at Gails but he said that I would be looking at like $220 to switch wheels and tires (just for the labor I'm not getting anything new). Seems high to me but I don't know...

Drake you aren't going to offer up your parents house for 10 - 15 buellers so everyone can stay in Topeka? Man that is weak

(Just Kidding).

Erik,
I knew that was coming. That would really freak them out...I mean they have no idea the type of people I hang out with. (Biker trash!)

Just kidding!

Larry,
I ordered my track pants and boots tonight. Hopefully Monday, May 8th works for me to do a track day. If not then, definitely later this summer. I was looking over the rules and regulations again and noticed we don't hardly have to do anything to our bikes except tape up all the glass/plastic lenses and safety wire/zip tie our kick stand. No biggie!

Also, if anybody else is interested, you don't have to have track pants to ride in the Novice group. They try making it easy for beginners to get onto the track and try it. Let me know if you need any details.

Hey Guys,

It looks like I'm going to be out a little later than planned. I probably won't be out till about 6:30. I think I'll just change the oil tomorrow. If I make it over to the KCLW early enough I'll do it, but I doubt I will.

Eric

Here is what your bike may look like with some orange on it. I wasn't sure if you had the mirrors or not so I left those alone:

Special Edition

You would also want to trade out your tank letters for some Orange ones from a XB12. Give me a shout and let me know what you think.

Hey Eric,

If you want the gold wheels for your CityX I'll trade you my gold wheels for your black ones. If you've already made a deal with someone else it's cool, but if not send me a PM. I was planning to take mine off to the powdercoater anyway. I would like to check out your wheels before we switch though. My wheels are 100% a okay. They have no chipping, flat spots or anything else on them. Let me know.

I kind of got that feeling too, but I figured I would toss that out there in case he changed his mind or something.

Good ride last night. Although I must say that is probably the longest amount of time I've spent with both wheels on the ground for a while. I think you can probably say the same Duff. BTW, you had one pretty sweet rolling stoppie last night.

Here is the skinny on the directlink guys. The keys are actually way more expensive that we had initially thought. Here is how I took the explaination I received in another post.

If 10 of my friends and I wanted to go in on a directlink we would need to pay for 9 $250 keys and split the additional $100 that it costs for the directlink since it comes with a key of it's own? So it would basically be $260 a piece if 10 of us went in on it and the cost for using a dyno for the people that have mods that are not premapped?

I wonder if Topeka HD would be interested in picking up the $100 that the directlink software itself costs if they knew we would bring in a bunch of bikes to be dynoed? I also wonder if Al would be willing to give us any kind of price break for picking up 9 keys and one complete direct link at once. Even a 10% discount because the order would be so large would save us $26 a person. $234 is pretty much the price of the Race ECM, except this would actually be programed to work with our particular bikes and be tuneable.

$224 if Topeka HD picked up the $100 for the directlink and the software that they would keep to be able to tune other Buell and FI Harleys.

That sounds more like it but still a pretty good deal. I think that we should talk to Al/Daves about it and see if they would cut us any better deal if we got 10 orders together.

I'm in still I want a DL tuned ECM pretty badly just to see what all the hype is about.

James - sorry about the wheels man but I'll let you know if I decide not to do it.

Later,
Erik

I pm'd Al about maybe getting a discount for an order that size yesterday. I haven't heard back as of this morning.

So I almost got taken out last night as Duff and I were on our way back. We were just about to 69 highway on 119th. I was riding a stand up down the hill before 69 and some turned left right in front of me. He pulled up to turn left and must have seen me because he stopped and then went anyway. So I had to put the bike down from the wheely really hard and get all over the brakes. I'm not really sure how close it was, but I know that if I hadn't put the wheely down and gotten on the brakes I would have hit the car. I had to sit out on the porch and have a beer and a cig after that little adrenaline rush.

True. 9*249 + 1*$348 = $258.9 And If you did a bulk buy like that, I can beat those prices.

That is a response from Al in another post where I was coming up with the costs for the directlink. Check the post in the XB board for the entire story. Basically each bike will need to be put on the dyno whether there is a prmapped key for it or not. If we can work out a good dyno day with Topeka HD we should be able to get this done for a decent price. I'll let you know when I hear more from Al.

James,

The cager might not have seen you if your headlight was pointed at the sky. If he did see you, your wheelie may have made you appear slower than you were actually going. Then again, he may have just wanted to see you bite it.

Glad you escaped injury!

Yeah, I'm not sure what the cause of it was, but I was scared shitless when I got off the bike. I'm pretty sure he saw me because he stopped, hesitated and then went anyway. I'm pretty sure he just thought I was going slower than I was like you said. I take the responsibility that stuff like that could happen every time I pick up that front wheel. I was just pretty surprised that he went after he saw me and stopped.

Loren has a nice ride planned on Sunday in the Flint Hills. I am already going to be in Topeka, so I am going to meet them at a gas station about 2:00. It should be a great day for riding...and as usual, a sweet route planned by Loren.

I talked to Larry about meeting at Topeka HD/Buell on Saturday. If anyone wants to meet me there, I am planning on stopping in (again since I will already be in T-town.)

So I've been a little upset with my company of late since I was supposed to get a raise 2 and 1/2 months ago and they took almost two months to get me a phone. They offered me a phone when I started and I told them not to waste the money until my contract was up and then they dragged their feet when the time came to get one.

Anyway, I was pretty discouraged about a week ago so I updated my resume on Careerbuilder and I applied for a few jobs. I got a call last week from a guy and we played phone tag until Tuesday when we finally spoke and set up an interview for Wednesday the 26th. I just looked up the company website, and the job is the Office/HR Manager for Procharger! Talk about sweet! I wonder if that means I would get a discount on superchargers. It'd be a whole lot cooler if I did! Oh yeah, and I told him that I want 10K a year more than I make right now. I'm underpaid here by about that now based on my experience and job duties, but I do have a review that I had to ask for Monday. We'll see how it goes.

James,
Good luck with that! A few years ago Pro Charger expanded their factory and our company bid on the project. We were unsuccessful at winning the job, but it was cool making the estimate and getting to look around the facility. They are just north of 119th and Strang Line (back in that business park).

Procharger has some really cool stuff (literally). Their superchargers have "inner coolers" that cool the air before entering the motor. When I was there they had two test cars, a Camaro and a Mustang, that were putting down some serious HP. For about $4-5K you can get nearly 50% more HP.
