Your on. If you want to head to the house around 3:00 we can run up to the club and see what we can do.
If you happen to go to Walmart check and see if they have a spotlight with the red lens attachment. I'll give you the funds back when you get here. My light isn't strong enough for 50 yard shots. If you have one of those D cell maglights I have heard they will work in a pinch if a red film is put over the lens.

Just got done fixing the Rabbit stew. It is delicious!! I set you aside a meals' worth and will drop it off tomorrow when I pick my medicine up over at CVS.
I figured out what happened. You were loaded with number 3 which leaves very wide holes in the pattern with a modified choke. Not a problem on a Fox but a Rabbits' head is considerably smaller. Combined with not having the bead lined up and that about sums it up. You ought to look into getting one of the magnetic fiber optic sights like I am going to. I think I will get one for the ole' Mossy as well.
Looks like the club will be closed tomorrow because of the snow but if it ain't too bad I want to try to bag a few more waskily wabbits before the season closes on Tuesday.
I forgot how freakin' good they are!!

Here is a sight that talks a little about lead with Skeet. The only thing I disagree with is his lead for station #1 high bird. It should be shot with the same style as the low bird on station #7.

Seemed to be a very effective method but we'll probably stick to the old fashioned way of walking and stalking.
What can I say? I'm just an old fashioned kind of guy.
I'll be dropping your stew off around 3:45.

As soon as you dropped it off my memory kept playing that BUGS Bunny cartoon where he's having an argument with Daffy Duck. Bugs' saying "duck season" Daffy's saying "rabbit season" seriously that stew was quite satisfying. The missus has a bite but tried to get it down without tasting it. I think she was expecting something really crazy but she said "oh that's good" City slickers have the most insane misconceptions. I did make her tell her mother what she ate though! I want to make wild game chili, that sound delicious.
Tomorrow: when, where, do I need more shells or a different choke? No I need a .22 mag or .17hmr don't I? NUTS

Improved choke. Number 6 shot.
After the other day I think we both need a 22mag or 17HMR

I have to pick the girls up from school tomorrow so 3:30 will be dandy. I'll call ya if anything changes.

Jackie, have you given any more thought to those red plastics. I'm probably going to take my black cover over to get coated tomorrow. I'll be shooting 12 guage #6 game loads with a modified choke. I picked up plenty of shells today should another fluke situation arise. I would rather invest in a 22mag than a large caliber lever action. I think I'll use the 12 guage with copper slugs for the close range stuff. I've really got to think about the crossbow thing too. How soon should I start practicing? Too much stuff tooo little time. Nuts,
I had to break down and renew my cellphone contracts last night so the new bodywork is out of my budget right now. You know me, strolled in the store and bought one of the most expensive phones they had simply because "it was neat".
You and I share the same problem. We both have T-bone taste on a Burger King budget HAHAHAHAHAHA!
You can master the crossbow in as little as a week provided you have decent marksmanship with the 22LR. Since shots are close the minute amount of shaking isn't amplified quite like it is with a centerfire rifle where the bullet is travelling further distance and thus any movement results in extreme POI changes.
If you can consistantly hit a 3 inch circle with your 22lr at 40 yards then you will not have a problem. Don't fret though. The Starlings will sharpen our skills during the off season.

Nuts,
Man my back is KILLING ME!! I doubt I am going to be riding or hunting tomorrow.
With any luck and a lot of Skelaxin I will be good to go for Friday night. Since my daughter is having a big sleepover lets plan on a late nighter. If the back ain't better I may ride the ATV close to our setup site and only have to walk maybe 100 yards.
Check this site out. The guy is local. If I can get hold of him we will go Friday and get us a whole plethora of calls for the evening fiasco.

That site looks awesome. I'm gonna get one of those in an exotic wood as an heirloom. I was telling my Dad about our ordeal last night, he was pretty impressed. I am going to try and arrange to get a few of his calls for our trip on Friday night. He has that one designed for Raccoon so hopefully we will get to see if it works.
Are you going to be available for a long hunt? I am thinking of staying out until 10:00 or 11:00 if that works for you.

Jason,
Got hold of the guy. We will be meeting him Friday at 4:15 to pick up a few calls. I managed to talk him out of his very first dual call he has ever made and a closed reed call. He will make you another one but just remember I'll always have the first one made (don't hate me because my call will be better)!
He will have a few more with him so bring the checkbook.
My house 3:30 Friday?

Got myself a nice 60 miler in today. Went right up Windy Gap and smack into a State Police checkpoint. All they wanted was to see the inspection sticker and off I went. Down to Burnt Chimney and a quick fill up and U-Turn. I took a Left on Boones Mill and that was quite pleasant. Dropped me off on 220 which I took to Yellow Mnt. Road. Got home and saw all the salt spray on the bike so I gave it a good cleaning. I am thinking of the Line-x place tomorrow and a stop in at Trader Jerry's. For all the research I've been doing I still am unsure of what I want to carry. I think I'll be struck by the "best deal" and that'll be who goes home. It doesn't have to be immediately but I don't know how much more fruitful the next "show" will be. Where is Will-E-Coyote at? Depending on the price of the calls I might just get another for my Grandfather so he'll have something to play with at his farm. We gave him a Turkey caller for x-mas. Post here with what you recommend bringing for tomorrow night. 12gauge or .22 NUTS

Jason,
The road you took today (Boones Mill) is the road that we will take tommorow once we pick up the calls. We are meeting him at the Shell station directly across from where you got on 220. The ones he will be bringing are around 20-25 bucks so not too terribly expensive considering they are hand tuned instead of mass produced.
I went on a short little 10 mile ride today and about bailed it at each stop because of my back. At one stop sign I very nearly dropped it and figured I better motor home before something bad happened. Mine has some slight salt spray on it but I am so stiff I can't bend down to clean it. Wanna come over and clean it thoroughly for me? I'll pay you $2.50 for your trouble.
I downloaded some new sounds that are of MP3 quality so we may give them a try as well depending on how well the new calls work.
If we set up on the 400 meter range I think we should set it out at about 250 meters and sit off to the side. Talking with the call guy he says that they will often circle behind the call which means we would still be able to get a shot. I also think I am going to bring a small stuffed animal and some fishing line. Dangle the animal from a stick and then use a long piece of line so we can wiggle it from where we are sitting to keep their attention away from us.
Bring the 22 if you feel comfy with it since it will make longer shots. If not the 12 gauge will take care of business up to the same range as the other night. Since we will more than likely be in the woods and on the 400 meter range I would lean heavily towards the 22 but that is up to you.
See ya' tomorrow.

Jason,
What I am about to tell you may sound like a tall tale but I kid you not.
I sat the electronic caller out on the deck with the new sounds about 45 minutes ago and stood by the window watching. After about 30 minutes I saw a shadow run by the house up above me and then stop in the field. There, in all its' wild glory stood a Coyote the size of a small Labrador! As soon as it seen me move it took of like a bat out of hell. I mean to tell you it was gone in two seconds.
I knew we had Raccoons around and that is what I was trying to attract but instead pulled in the Holy Grail of predators right beside the house!
I am laying here thinking about the possibilities of what lies ahead for tomorrow and can't get to sleep. Makes me seriously consider getting a Hornet or Swift just in case one of those big muthas show up while we are in the woods. I had no idea that they were that fast and wary which leads me to believe if we draw one within headshot range it will just be blind luck.
The wind is supposed to be wailing so we may get skunked but the anticipation will be worth the wait even if we don't see anything. Then again I could be taking me a Raccoon to the taxidermy man on Saturday. Bobcat is closed so that will have to wait until this Fall.
See you this afternoon.

You know,
I was thinking about Wildlife Rd. as another avenue for calling. Since Raccoon is still in and Coyote is always open what do we have to lose? LOTS of different areas we could make a stand. Are you feeling up to it sometime next week?

Jason,
My apologies. I had one of my episodes early this morning. They wipe me out and I end up sleeping for an extended period of time trying to recuperate. Still feel spent but hopefully will get better like it usually does.
If so I believe I am going to try for my Raccoon slam tomorrow night. The season ends March 10th so we don't have the luxury of letting the area rest.
If you are in let me know.
