Front wheel comes up, center of gravity goes off center, speed way up, rear tire kicks out and under, corner of rim snags a curb or something like a steel fence post, momentum of bike snaps hollow axle, bike lands in field or on soft embankment, or instead of a curb it could have hit a steel or aluminum or cement drain pipe. The kink in the rear wheel is too sharp edged to have been from a bumper (my M2's rim looked fine after getting rear ended, but my tire was split side to side). I'd have to see the actual tire on the bike, or talk to the owner to really know what happened.

Pretend you're an interested buyer and that you want the specifics of the crash before you can make a bid. Sometimes that will get you a story.

how do you know how many posts you have here? maybe I don't want to know.

A dent that big had to have been caused by a blow directly towards the axle, not a glancing blow on a tangent to the rim. That's why I suggested that he may have been rear ended. Who knows what he hot hit with? The edge of someone's brush guard maybe? As sharp as it is, it looks like it hit the rim directly and not the tire. The lack of damage to the rest of the bike would indicate that it didn't go down, or at least not very hard. Crashing in grass still tears stuff off. I'm not interested enough to call the guy, I'm just trying to get my posts up :)

Hey Bomber,

No problem! Glad to help if i can......Thanks for the vote of confidence Don.

Bomber, have you made any mods on the intake side (k&N filter, baffles removed, race kit filter....). That tends to make a big difference. The thunderslide works well but we have a couple of tricks we can perform on the stock slide that the calibration was developed with that might work a little better. Do you have any complaints/issues with the driveability at the moment? Stumbles, flat spots, etc? If i read your post correctly, you currently have a stock header and an aftermarket muffler?

Joe,

I'm on the fence again on the ride this coming weekend....forgot i had tickets to the OSU/UW game on Saturday. I'm the only Ohio State guy going with 11 Wisconsin guys, so I'm not sure what kind of shape i will be in on Sunday.

Dyna...

Nothing to rant about, was all good things. Heck even Bomber thought about adopting you, well at least your Wide Glide.

Did Dead Man's (Dyna's) Curve on the way to HH. Nice wide tar snake in lieu of lane dividing paint. The gust of wind, snake slip and tank slapper is easily understood. No way to avoid unless you could have crossed the snake at a steeper angle which probably would have put you under the wheels of a semi or into the concrete barrier. Real glad you two were dressed for the occasion and survived.

Good luck with the rebuild. Take your time and be proud.

Regarding the number of posts:

I'm referring to the total number of posts put up on the Uke's Club page (under "Storm Fronts" ).

It's just fun to see how much we gab in comparison to the other clubs/groups on this page.

Wes

yeah, I should have been more complete in explain what I've done to butcher the poor sccot . . . . .k, here goes, from in to out

S&S filter housing
K&N Filter
Thunderslide kit
195 main
45 low
needle clip in 4th groove (counting from top)
just a hair under 3 turns out from lightly seated on the low speed screw
stock internals
stock header
Wileyco can

I've got the normal flatspot at about 3K, although it is much lessened than it was stock, seems a little ragged below 3K (again, much better than it was stock) and a cough every now and again when blipping the throttle from dead idle (which is set around 1K)

And, like every engine I've ever owned, it seems happier when it's cooler . . . .spring and fall, it just rocks . . . . ..

there . . .any more data and we'd be into tattoos and other distiguishing marks, and I don't think we wanna go there on the board, yes?

Bomber,

no need to get into any tatoos, scars, cosmetic surgery, etc....somethings are better left not known.

Sounds like your pretty close on main jet and slow jet. I would go with a different needle, differnt slide return spring, and go back to the stock slide. Maybe lean your IMS screw down to 2 turns from lightly seated. I also have another float bowl i think will work a little better and might help the flat spot....I'll e-mail you off list with the details.

Wes . . .thanks a million . . ... I have realized that whater tuning skill I developed flat-tracking Yam 650s and Bultacos either doesn't transfer exactly, has leaked outa my head, or I was just flat out bad back in the day ;-}

Leaning out IMS needle greatly increases the coughing (allergies, perhaps?)

again, wes, thanks . . .. .

I didn't know you flat tracked Bomber....very cool! What kind of Yamaha did you race? I've always had the hots for XS650 dirt trackers. There was one in cycleworld a few months ago that someone put on the street....same effect on me as Krispy kremes on Don.

mmmmmm.....XS650 dirt trackers......

TX650 (74) . .pre and post 74s were XS . . . dunno why .. still in the garage, will get it back on the street someday . . ..

while signing the papers for my wife's blast, i got talking to Keith, and realized we raced at pretty much the same time . . .. . I was very much a spear carrier . . . . I got lapped by Kenny Roberts AND Bugsy Mann at Sante Fe (only one speed way has a track of clay . . . . .)

he, someone's gotta be last, right?

(I think I'll go stir up SacBORG some more, some of them Brits really get going.)
