WAAAAAAH!!

I checked official overall standings in HD/Buell of Glendale BOTT Middleweight and I'm in SECOND overall - behind Kopecky and his 749 Duck. In Heavyweight Twins, I'm in 3rd overall behind Kopecky on his 999 Duck (yes, he races 2 Ducati!) and Charles Baird (can't remember what he raced - he's new this year)

Dang - injuries are going to keep me out until who knows??!!

WAAAAAAaaa!

Crashing sux!

Hey Steve, what about Dr. Art Ting?
He's in state and used to fixing bones like yours.
You may even get to bump into some of the other famous racers while you're in the waiting room =)

I've googled him - he's the official Doc for San Jose Sharks and others up North - in addition to the usual crowd of road racers

I'm going to chech Southern Cal Ortho Institute - http://www.scoi.com - they do a lot of the So CA athletes

Who wants to join me in cornerworking at AMA?

I have been asked by my friends at the SCCA to assist in cornerworking, and have been asked to bring along as may friends as possible! SCCA Calclub performs the cornerworking duties at Fontana. I went with the club and cornerworked last year, and it was a hoot! You get track-side seats to the race, and have one hell of a fun time. Watching the race is one thing, but to watch it 10 feet away, and be on the radios listening to the chatter is a whole new experience.

The SCCA is a great group of people. It will be work, but you will have a great time. There will be food for all cornerworkers provided by the track. Last year is was box lunches and all the soda and water you could drink. The only requirements for cornerworkers is that they wear white. Last year I picked up a white tee-shirt and a pair of painters pants (available at Walmart or Home Depot) and I was good to go. The AMA and SCCA will train you, so there should be no worries there. Last year I got a nice AMA tee-shirt out of the deal, hopefully they do the same this year.

Who: Whoever wants to come work any of the dates below, or even all three dates!
What: Cornerworking (Flagging) at Fontana AMA
Where: Fontana Speedway
When: April 29th - May 1st
Why: You know you want to!
How: Send Me an Email at jeprovo(at)yahoo(dot)com

Hope to see you there,
James Provencher

Maybe its just me, perhaps I'm way out of line, but I show up at these various bike meetings and there is usually a topic - hill climbing, racing, whatever - but I'm there about the ride! I want to here about what roads you went down, what they are like, what you saw on them, and their conditions. I want to hear about technique, tips and pointers for enjoying the ride even more. The spectator side of things - racing, shows, and these meetings mean very little to me. I started riding because it offered a type of peace that is unique, and is fun to participate in! I say - get off your collective arses talking about riding and go ride! So who's with me on exploring and enjoying some of the best roads that California has to offer on this next San Louis Obispo ride this 2,3,4 of April? I garrentee a great ride, great scenery, and great fun! Surely there are other folks who feel this way here and enjoy riding - what better way to express it than to ride! So come on Blastards - join me and the gang for a great ride - meeting at the Beanery at 9th and Irving at 8am on the 2nd of April to enjoy a fantastic adventure! Talk takes you nowhere, its your bike that will get you there! The gauntlet has been thrown! Who will answer this call for adventure?! And who will just stay home and wish they did - the decision is your!

You mean this doesn't count as riding?
If you get your butt out here you'll get real tired of hearing us talk about riding! =)
Not to mention that some of the greatest roads Socal has to offer are on the way to the track!

Riding!

Er, That's about 1/4 of our BRAG group RIDING in that photo!
You want to talk about participation and a unique sense of peace? Think of every riding experience you have had up to this point in your life, and cram them into a 20 minute chunk. Oh, and crank the intensity up to "11".
After that, get off the bike, discuss for 30 minutes, and now repeat. and do it again. and again. Go home and sleep with the biggest grin on your puss and a complete sense of self.
It really is that good.
And on top of that we still go on humongous street rides - Like 250 miles a day rides over the motorcyclist's playground called SoCal. =)
We'll get you down here yet!

If you squint just right you can make out the tube frames from the XB's.

Thats totally cool! Wish we had that kind of group up North here! We have American Sport Bike Nights, but thats about it, your on your own from there - not really complaining - the roads up here are awesome, but it would be great if at least one Bay area dealer would take the BRAG function seriously and get Buellers involved in stuff like that - I'm sure someone is missing the boat on that kind of promotion here. It looks to be great fun and that Blast series you guys are looking into would be tight - I even preped the red bike to be prepared for a trip down there if it becomes a reality - lol - gotta do it at least once don't ya know, however, that still leaves us Northerners alone with our roads - not a bad thing knowing our roads, but still...Ya know if DP paid anything - I'd do their BRAG stuff for them, but they just sit on their hands sell bikes and entertain the HD folks with some lame excuses that they call a ride (if the roads where any straighter I could sleep while riding - lol). I was born and raised down there, so I know what the roads are like - very nice (though 150 to 250mi. is my average weekend ride;0)) - however, the Bay area weather has me spoiled - I'd probably melt during July and August (a great diet come to think of it - lol) but the rest of the year I'd probably handle well. So drag some of those Blastards up to SLO and we can get some meet, greets, and riding in together and maybe figure a way to coerce a seller of Buells here in the Bay area into being more interactive with their Buell clients - a person can hope!

Hey all. I'm transplanting this from the guestbook. He's my bro and I'm hoping someone close to him will touch base w/him and clue him in to just how many Buell friendly events there are in SoCal. Sandblast, I think you're a hop skip and a jump from him...

Thanks, Charlieboy

"Hey everybody. Thought I'd drop in & say wassup. Just got my first bike in about 13 years or so. Got a Buell XB9R of course. My younger Sis and Bro-in-law hipped me to this site. Looks like it will be invaluable as a source of info and advice. Way cool.
Anyway I'm out in the (909) area of Cali. and there are lots of rice rockets and full dress hogs out here, but not a lot of Buells. Looking for some locals to ride with. I'll post my e-mail with this post, so feel free to hit me up.

Off topic question:
Does anyone know of shop that would be willing to dyno tune my Blast?
Obviously someone familiar with Buells.I live in north Orange County.
Thanks for any help.

Gearheaderiko,

I don't know how busy either of them are but Glendale has 2 Buell techs - Eric and Marek (yeah, sounds like a silly rhyme). The problem is that they are in demand and it might take a while to get the bike scheduled - it's been a while since I've talked with either of them. You could call Ernie at Glendale. He is our BRAG contact/sponsor - he knows how best to get set up with either of them. Personally, I wouldn't have a Harley tech touch it.

I know Bartels also has great expertise through the race group but don't know if their guys are available to the "general public" for use on the dyno. Bartels is getting ready to move their service operation to temporary quarters until their new building is ready. They are doing some really trick stuff with their Blast-engined flat tracker and Blast-engined S1 roadracer.

Thanks.
I've talked to Bartels & they are willing to do it. I will give Glendale a call since they are little closer to home and the BRAG sponsor.

Yeah - if Bartels is ready, they do know what they're doing.

Glendale sponsors both my BRAG group AND the Middleweight twins class at Willow but if they're buried/too busy then go Bartels.

If you get a chance next time you call Bartels, ask for the race shop - Jeff Ecklund - he races (and wins) their Blast-motored flat-tracker and can make sure you get treated right. I don't know if their "normal" dyno guys are all that good. I've only dealt with the race shop.

Also, talk to Jeff - he's racing his Blast at Victorville this Saturday afternoon/night (even if it rains)

We all pit together at Willow for the races. It's a small, friendly community.

Gearheaderiko,

I talked with the Bartels race team out at Willow this weekend - they are not connected with the shop. ANY performance tuning is done by the "regular" mechanics - in fact the race team is only able to work on the dyno on Mondays when the regular dyno tech is off work - or when there are schedule openings.

You'd probably be better off going to Glendale. I talked to Matty and Ernie about that and Marek is now the V-Rod specialist at Glendale, Eric in service is the only real Buell mechanic. Call to see what your wait looks like.

Matty can set you straight on Blast-related tuning. Not only does he have a project Blast, he has started racing the Bartels Blast-motored S1 (or S2?) - and he'll be more familiar with the Blast Beastie.
