ATTENTION ALL MOBBERS...

Weston BRAG ride Saturday March 5th, meeting at Gail's 11:00 am, departing at 11:20 am.

First, most of you should get an email with this info, this is for those who are not on the club email list.

Second... I am looking for someone to lead this ride. I can show up and help with the pre-ride stuff, like releases for non-members who participate, but I won't be able to lead this ride. Believe it or not, with Sharon losing her job I have to watch every penny and don't feel comfortable burning gas money for fun rides, when I am concerned about making bills at the end of the month. So, until she gets work, I will help by showing at Gail's and getting the ride on it's way, but can't actually go on the rides.

Third... This is just a fun little ride up to Weston for lunch at one of the little restaurants in town. Not too long since it might be a bit chilly, but long enough to help eliminate the "parked motorcycle syndrome" that is killing us. So... we meet at Gail's at 11:00 am on Saturday March 5th, non-members sign a release, then the ride leaves at 11:20 am... to Buell into Weston for a nice lunch.

I really need a volunteer to lead this ride... no biggie, just hop on your Buell and be the first bike in line. Call or email me, and if needed I can sent to you a .pdf of the route I was thinking of, or you can lead the path you want.

I hope to see you at Gail's next Saturday morning...

Thanks...
Dennis

Scott, I'm sorry you feel that way. And to any other's my beef is with the way the cut us off while I had customer/friends waiting for parts. I didn't even receive a call saying they weren't coming. Now how's that look on me as a professional. But if you can't vent on this sight without everyone getting all bent out of shape, then screw it. I'll go play with my kids. I look at like this, I hate Ford, but I love Mustang's. Harley and Buell have pissed me off with the decession they've made, but I still love the machines they make.

Short notice... but a cool thing to do!!! Roger at the dealership forwarded this to me. I wish I could make this ride, but can't. Anyway!!!

If anyone’s interested in the below escort come out to Gail’s this Monday at 2:15 PM and ride out and meet them. If it is raining or looks bad please call the Swine Line 816-966-6530

Subject: Army Escort

The 110th Engineer's are looking for some Harley & Buell riders that would be interested in escorting some combat veterans from the 1140th ENG, who are just coming back from Iraq. The convoy will have Police and Fire Escort.

The veterans will leave Fort Riley around 1400 on Monday 28 Feb. They will pull into the Kansas Speedway which is where the Escort will pick them up. Then we will fall into the procession and escort them from the Speedway to the Kansas City National Guard Armory at 7600 Ozark Road, (just south of Arrowhead).

Sooo...do the XBs not have a temp gauge on them because they're air cooled then? Can air cooled motors even have a temp gauge since there's no coolant? Is there a way to get a temp. gauge somehow?

Hey Zeus, (no pun intended)

Looks as though you fell into the same trap I did!!

And I will tell you right now, it is really hard to tell one's feeling's (except Keefs) in words alone, and I agree with you in alot of issues you have expressd.

BUT, if you post it, don'texpect it to be enjoyed by all, and, your feelings will be hurt by others post, as theirs was when you posted your feelings. They are merely expressing their opinion as you did!!

As far as some one on this site telling one to sell there bike for a hundred bucks (or whatever) becouse they posted a bad image against Buell, then why do we have this bulliten board???? I will tell you--- this board was designed to express ones self towards the thoughts and experiences about their Buells. look at the titles of which posting is available, they are all positive based headings, thus we need positive based stories posted.

Now, that is my just about this little scrimmage you all are about to get into, and I myself have done the same thing, all I can say is it ruined a friendship between me and another, shamed myself when confronted about it all later, ITS NOT WORTH IT....

When some one posts some thing on here and it pisses ya off, call him and chew his yourself, don't let the (MEDIA) do it for you, you might and will lose a fellow rider friend, and that folks is not what this site is all about now is it??!!

If your affended by what I just said, then by all means CALL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't take it personally, I don't!!

Temp guage hmmmm,

I think the reason you don't see one is becouse the design like you said, AIR COOL, takes the place of heating all that extra liquid in the water cooled design. Just a guess.

I personally like to start mine before all my gear is put on, then once dressed it usually is hot and ready. I can usually tell by the sound of the idle smoothing more and rising.

As far as riding it hard, good rule of thumb, don't unless you know how. Then you will know when?? Me, I wait until I have at least---at least two blocks. (hehehe) Then I let er rip, or wheelie what ever tickles my balls at the time. (oh did I just say that?).

Bottom line: Don't need one!!!!!!!!!(Temp Guage)

S1, I hear ya...but I dunno how easily I'd be able to just "feel it out" on how hot it is. I'd much rather have a guage, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. Does the fan come on while riding? Is it on at normal operating temps or just when the motor is getting a little hotter than ideal operating range? Would an error code or engine light come on if it was getting hot enough where you should be turning it off? Again, certainly not a deal breaker but I'd just like to have as much information available if needed.

I did my club business on the XB today. Went to Gail's... did the usual contact and info exchange with Roger and sales staff. Ran into a bunch of Mobbers at Gail's.

The thing just wanted to take off and run! Of course the guy in the funny looking car parked on the side of South 71 sticking the Lidar out the window made me keep the beast restrained... but I had an evil thought...

"what if I blast over this rise just before the funny looking car with the Lidar hanging out the window at about 120... and do evasive maneuvers from side to side... I wonder if he can bounce a laser beam off of the little bitty frontal area of my XB??? Then could he catch up to tell me I had been a bad boy???"

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO glad I can't get in trouble for my thoughts!!!!!

Anyway... I was a good boy... and held the beast back! What a nice day for a ride!!!!

Yep, my bro, me and Drake took a nice trip to Topeka. It was fun a little chilly at times but overall the trip was awesome. Topeka HD is a cool dealership, if you've never been I would encourage everyone to check it out. The back of the store even has a little village attached to it now. Thanks for letting us tag along Drake.

>>>>I think I found all of the curvey roads in Northeast Kansas. Both of 'em!

Ahhhh..then you need to look harder. Start with the Perry Lake loop. I used to have it timed and spent HOURS there making the same run on what you'd come to know as the 1996 S-1 Lightning. I started off Highway 24 on the West side of the Lake and did a high speed section North. There is a turn off that generally takes you towards some camp grounds and the dam. It's very rough road and where I learned my limits (bear in mind this was in 20 degree weather when the campers were long gone and the area deserted).

I had a stopwatch mounted on the bike and would time various sections. First I worked toward faster, then consistent.

For one of the funnest runs in NE Kansas (with the possible exception of the Highway 75 / Highway 24 Cloverleaf just North of the Kaw Bridge) do the run out toward Lake Waubaunsee. Once you pass Eskirgde, haeed out past the lake, North on 99 and wander along the various grade changes and twisties (yes, it's relative) North, pass I-70 and then head into Manhattan on K-99.

Don't forget to come home. I sat out to do this on a Buell back in 1992 and ended up in Caspar, WY.

Ever wonder WHY HPT was built?

: )

I guess I will come out of LURKING to add my 2 cents,I have tried to keep from posting because I seem to always hurt SOMEBODYS ever so fragile feelings by whatever it is I do post.....
Zues, you did a great job when you went after all The Buell stuff the way you did,it WAS NOTICED and APPRECIATED.
If the dealers who AREN'T Buell dealers, still have FACTORY trained techs........they cant work on Buells?Thats rediculous! So HD has forced a Monopoly down the throats of EVERY Buell owner past or present.I might understand not being able to sell Buells if your not the CHOSEN ONE,but not being able to order parts for a HD motorcycle, doesnt HD own Buell,is a bunch or crap.If the nearest Buell dealer is 200 miles and you have 6 HD dealers close, they cant order parts for a Buell,is just plain crazy!
Scott,I'm thinking the whole Buell deal, was a HD decesion not a Buell decesion. If you are going to want to sell your Buells, because of waiting on a parts order,or not being able to take it back to where you bought it,I think the term I'm thinking of is MAN UP,EVERYBODY who now owns a Buell or will own one,who bought if from someone OTHER than the now CHOSEN Buell Dealer is in the same situation you are.I'm NOT going to Bash Buell, and I'm NOT going to sell my Buell because of these MINOR riffs in the FORCE.Man the life boats women and children first. If you want to sell your Bikes, sell them!Buy another brand, wait on their parts-pay big dollars for their parts-and when your unhappy with that brand you can switch to another, and after you have went thru them all-------WE,DEDICATED BUELLIGANS,will be here waiting.

Zeus,
If the dealership doesn't sell their bikes by next year you should part the remaining bikes out. I'm sure you would get a lot of people in the store to buy all the misc parts.

>>>they cant work on Buells?Thats rediculous!

It's not rediculous, it's very smart.

Say you are Mike Patterson (owner of Topeka HD/Buell) and you've Grandad, Uncle and the family have dumped a ton of money into promoting, selling and servicing Buells for the last 15 years they have been selling them.

Then along comes Mr. NAME DELETED. Invests just enough to meet the minimum requirements and sneak by keeping his Buell franchise contract with HD.

Buell owners, yeah guys just like you and I cry out like the voices on Dantooine, about the weakness in the Buell business model being the dealers.

Buell acts; does exactly what we want, raises the bar.

Now, you play Mike Patterson over in Topeka. Go ahead, keep dumping big $$$ into maintaining a Buell operation.

Now how you gonna feel when somebody down on 63rd, unconstrained with having to meet standards, stock anything, someone who doesn't have access to Buell tech info, is taking your business cause he has someone that went through "mimimalist" training 3 years ago?

Better yet?...what if they former dealer works on your bike and you have a problem.

Care to sit on the board at 3700 for a day and take a couple of those calls to sort out.

See what I mean. It's really tough to be partially a Buell dealer.

WELL HERE I GO AGAIN YEEEHAAA...I am a General Motors trained Chevrolet Automotive technician and I work on Buicks,Oldsmobiles,Pontiacs and even some Cadillacs so saying that a H-D dealer can't work on a Buell is ludicrous , unless I am mistaken they share MANY parts with the Sportster line of old and new..at the dealership I work at we get parts for the other cars we work on from the other dealers and I suppose you are gonna' tell me that one dealer can't buy from another dealer like we do in the car business , please get real , the dealers around town (H-D) have techs trained far more that the minimums ,if that were true then they should not have been working on the bikes in the first damn place. I would be much more concerned with the after market bike shops than the dealers.Myself I have NEVER thats right NEVER had any dealer or private shop work on either my Sportster or my Buell not so much that they aren't capable it's just that I built my Buell from bare frame up so I know it better than most techs out there . I have an edge there that most of the other Buell riders don't have, there is nothing I can't do with the tube framers and could be the same with the newer XB's if and when I ever get one but that is off the subject at hand , the biggest problem is, is that most dealership mechanics are GLAD that they no longer have to work on Buell not that they can't work on them

I don’t think I have ever been treated better and with more competence by the techs that by Central. I also have to say what court said is garbage when the facts are brought out, I remember riding my bike out of another authorized Buell dealer and not having brakes and when I turned around and went back to ask what the deal is the tech said he THOUGHT he had them working and he spent two hours messing with them and could not figure it out, I took the bike home and fixed it myself in ten minutes. Central has done an awesome job in service and setup and delivery for us and I have walked in and bought parts off the shelf from them when none of the other dealers in the area had them. They were the first to stock riding cloths and fix up parts and still may have more than the authorized dealers in the area. It is obvious that they were working at getting setup to be a real player in the Buell dealer line and much more so than others in the area except Topeka. Topeka if you want to even say they are in our area when it is over an hour away unless you speed to get there is a great dealer to work with but it is so inconvenient to go there. I can only go on Saturdays unless I take off work half a day to make the trip. Buell has stiffed Central and us Buell owners when they made the decision to Clip Central from servicing the bikes we bought from them. They should be able to continue to provide parts and service to the people they sold bikes to as long as they have properly trained techs on staff. What do we have in the future to look forward to next? Why did they do it, so they could make more money not to improve our service or safety? They did not ask the buyers how they could best service us they did what they wanted so they could make more money no matter how it would inconvenience us. As for Kief others have already said what was needed to be said about your post. Yes I guess you could say I am unhappy with Buell, and probabably more so Because I like the bike and they made it harder for me to safely maintain and it may prove to be a legal problem in the future for them for just that reason.

All I have to say about Topeka is that if you own a Harley then it is an awesome dealership, if you own a Buell good luck finding anything other than a new bike. I was at their dealership this weekend and wanted to buy some apparel, the only buell item they had in stock (this is both parts and apparel) was a mesh riding jacket. They had less buells in stock then Central has left over, and they didn't seem all that friendly to the Buell crowd. I would say it is worth going to that dealership if you are in topeka just to see the museum in the basement and to get a cup of coffee, but the only way you will get parts for your XB is if they order them, nothing in stock. They may have some parts for the tubers in stock but I bet that the only ones in stock are interchangeable with the sporty. It is sad that Buell took away the only dealer as "Court" has said invested a substancial amount of money into the Buell product, has one of the best Buell techs in a 5 state radius, and has a few parts guys that really support the Buell product (Hay Court you where kind of right but you had it the wrong way, When I go into Topeka I have not see any investment into the Buell product or Buell customers, but when I would go into central it not only had parts and apparel in stock but a Buell friendly staff. I know of a few employees at Central that personally own a Buell, how many other dealers have more than one employee that owns a Buell, actually how many dealers even have employees that own Buells. I feel bad for Central because they invested their time and money into Buell and because they are a smaller dealer they lost the product. So, next time you think you know something about this area because you may have lived hear or visited why don't you keep quite and listen to what the people who live here currently have to say.

I went to Gail's on Saturday before taking a ride to Topeka, saw a few Mobbers and heard that we have a new member. I am really excited about the enthusiasim Gail's is starting to show towards the Buell product, hopefully in the near future we will be one of the few Brag groups that lives close to a really great Buell dealership. What was really nice was that at our last meeting Gail showed up for it. It would be nice if they would make a preseance on the BADWEB and try to get their name out like Dave has done for the Appleton, WI dealership, does anyone even know what the name of that dealership is, all I ever hear is just order it from DAVES.

I personally have recieved a great deal of satisfaction over the last few years dealing with Central, And I am thouroughly disappointed that I can't get various parts through them for my toys. There are four (I believe, maybe five)employees out of twenty or so that own Buells at that dealership. That's an impressive number. The relationships I've developed with the employees at Central is nothing short of phenominal for a customer, something fairly common with "most" of the MOB. They were on the verge of greatness when the plug was pulled. We as customers (happy with a product) expressing our ideas and complaints helped a lot of that happen, The employees they acquired over the last three or four years MADE it happen.

My hope is that what Corporate has given us leads down a similarly impressive path.

Thanks again to everybody but Bob at Central, see you guys soon.

KEEF.....
Thats how it is spelled not kief and I looked at the posts and must have missed some because S1 is the ONLY one who even made a comment about my post and I stick behind it as I don't believe that Buell bashing is what this site is about as I said in the last post only a couple posts back the dealers other that Gail's can work on the bikes if they want as they still have the techs. and the tools and equipment the tools were not gifts from Harley/Buell the dealer had to buy each and every one of them so throwing them away or sticking them up on a shelf someplace doesn't seem like a good option...besides a little heads up as far as I have been able to tell if you have a pre evo Harley like a shovelhead or even a old pan head the dealers refuse to work on them because they say they are too old how about that..Basicly what I am saying and have said all along the dealers will work on what they want too and tell everyone else 'tuff go somewhere else to get your bike worked on ,it's not that I think so it is I have personally seen this happen more that once....

Keef,
Its not that they can't work on the Buell, its that it will be at a higher cost to the customer since they can not buy any Buell parts at cost. Did you not read Zeus posts earlier. They can get parts, they just have to buy them from a Buell dealer, the kicker is they cannot buy them at cost anymore so then they either eat the difference or they have to mark the price of the part up. Like Zeus said earlier, he had to buy a frame from Gail's and had to eat the price difference from what he charged the customer. He ordered the frame when he was a Buell dealer but that didn't matter, and Gail's didn't sell it to him at cost so he had to eat the difference since I am sure the customer had already paid for the item or had been told a price for the frame before Zeus could not order it. It's not that they can't or will not work on Buells. Consider this, can you buy Ford or Dodge parts at cost from those dealers because that is what it comes too. Buell is now a rival dealer for Central and all other NON BUELL dealers, if Central has a customer that wants to keep their Buell serviced there then Central has to charge more for the parts then a Buell dealer would. I would think it would be cheaper for someone to take their Chevy to you then to a Ford dealer, even though the Ford dealer would probably do a fine job fixing the problem.
