The local HD dealer in Winchester, VA had a service manager that was a Buell enthusiast and they reset my TPS and replaced some fork seals when I brought in the legs. It recently changed ownership and they wont work on Buells or even Evos now. With a combo of not riding it as much and my 2007 XB12S hasn't needed more, this may not be too bad. Ive changed seals with the ratchet strap method, so that is manageable, but what is a good solution for TPS reset? Do Harleys have similar devices that an independent shop would have? What is currently available to reset it myself? I don't need to remap the fuel and ignition, but may need the reset in the future.

All you need is a copy of ECMSpy, a windows pc and dongle to connect the two.

I had forgotten that I had saved some ECMSpy favorites. This says it is sufficient all by itself: https://idspd.com/xcart/cmi-lite.html?category_id= 43 Is that correct?

I don't have a laptop and http://ecmspy.com/supported.shtml seems to say I would have to make my own cable, etc.

Don't know anything about that tool.
If it works as described, yes that would be good to set tps calibration.
And a lot less bother than researching and making a dongle yourself.

Bruce,

(Lol at the profile pic, btw)
The ECMSpy software is unwieldy at best, I ended up paying for it twice and still never getting it to work. You need a data cable and a laptop, or desktop in the garage close enough for the cable to reach it and your bike.

I followed recommendations received here and bought a "burner" trac phone from the local grocery store, and ordered a Bluetooth data port plug (Buelltooth is a name you see often, although we know here he's a scam artist... but the two [Bluetooth] devices I bought from him have worked okay over the years.

Android device, ecmdroid app, and a Bluetooth data port for you bike are much more simple and they work.

I use apple devices, but the android phone I found for $20-30 on sale has been good for tps resets and basic trouble code retrieval.

...a Harley dealer that's disowned the Evo's, that seems insane to me, sheesh!

Do you have a URL for buying the Bluetooth data port plug?

What steps do you have to take with the phone to use it for this initially, do you download an app?

It sounds as if with an existing android phone, all you need is the plug?

At the dealer, they told me that Evo OEM parts are too unavailable for them to basically have to tell customers they cant do the work, so they make it a policy, not an individual thing.

Buelltooth dongle:
https://www.rev-mo.com/product-page/ecm-interface

On mine sometimes I have to toggle between screens a bit before the active data will start to show real-time. (You'll need live data to do the TPS reset.)

People say you should not leave it plugged in for extended periods of time - some have melted. I did not know this when I bought mine and left it plugged in. Mine has been plugged in now for a few years and 9k miles or so and I haven't had problems. Probably a quality control issue due to a Chinese manufacturing partner...
