As to the Mustang vs Vette deal, it would take a lot of $$ to come close to a stock Vette. I raced a couple of late model mustangs with my R1 & they were easy pickings. Even with my HD I could beat most of them. But then I came upo against a new vette this summer & holy was that car quick. On my R1 it was all I could do just to beat him. He got me off the lights & it was about when I was getting ready to hit 2nd that I caught him, then it was easy the rest of the way. Course I think having 400+ hp & 30" of rear rubber on the road makes that car pretty damn easy to blast off from a light with.

Dont take Vettes lightly if you are on a bike, the new ones can haul some serious @ss.

I do have my facts straight...

The Le-Mans vette (C5R) is NOT Chevy powered and I said that Ford was successful in european racing before they acquired Jag. GM had to buy a European company to be competitive on the track over there. I didn't say Chevy (or GM) owned Jag. The engine in the Le-Mans was designed by a company (I don't remember the name) that is more like Rousche or Cosworth is to Ford (because Ford just sold Cosworth). They don't own the company that designed the engine, but the engine was designed by a company that has close ties to Chevy. The C5R engine is NOT the same block that is used in the street legal showroom Vette.

Please don't get me wrong... I like Vettes (Except that they didn't handle worth a damn until this latest chassis (In case you want the numbers... The old ones could pull .89 lateral G's, the Viper pulls .92 (Pre '05), The Supra T pulled .98 - All in stock trim anyway according to Road and Track in about '94)). I just feel (and the numbers seem to back me up) that the Mustang offers the best bang for the buck for anyone who wants to have a car that will set respectable "not attainable off the showroom floor" lap times.

On the 300HP Mustang GT issue... I think I may have read somewhere that Ford will offer a boosted GT. I think that one was 400 or 425HP (still a GT though, not a Cobra). I don't remember where I read that, but probably a post from www.corner-carvers.com.

It's all mostly academic anyway... Buy what you like. I wouldn't mind having a Vette... I like their futuristic cockpit styling at the least.

AMX's are sweet. Have a whole bunch here in my town. Course it helps that this is where they were built.

SC/Ramblers, Rebel Machines, AMX's, V-8 Gremlins etc are an everyday sight. Guy in town owns a body shop & he has the worlds fastest street legal Gremlin. I think he's running high 7's in the qtr mile right now.

they say the new zo6 vett si going to be a really hot car (possibly competive to the gt and viper) but im not sure how true it will be. so dont quote me on it. i know i have test driven the previous zo6 and it was fast as hell (jsut cant figure out how to fit a baby seat in it). so i had to make do with my firebird t/a. which i love to death. even though im reluctinly scrificing it for my bike (wife said it the firebird or the bike). and that wasnt a hard choice.

This is very true. I drove a ZO6 recently and it is a serious flyer. Cheap speed too!
