backing up a little....the xb is a technical marvel...breaking all the rules in the absolute right way...having said that...it's even more fun to wax some guy on his hyper 600 through the twisties with 30% less horsepower...kinda makes you realize what great machines we really have...besides, i'm just getting into the aftermarket world and look forward to extracting more ponies...again...part of the appeal of the machine...

Thank you Dave...

First On Race Day it is...

For all you who doubt... Check the stats. Ford is the most successful company in the history of motorsport. They were only surpassed by Ferrari in F1 this past season and Ford stopped playing that game for most of the eighties.

I'm not here to bust chops on Ford. It's just that they keep having highly publicized recalls. That, and I lived thru the very fine designs of the 70's, cough, cough. (the Granada is forever etched in my memory)

"don't forget GM took a break in the 70's from all racing."

Not exactly... No more than Ford did. BTW... Chevy doesn't even PLAY the high end racing game. They go out every once in a while and win a few Le-Mans races (which is commendable). Ford started that with the Cobra and GT40 as a slap in the face to Enzo Ferrari. EVERYONE plays second fiddle to Ford when it comes to racing (yes, even in NASCAR). Do the research.

http://victory-lap.com/sue/history.html

History until at least 2000... I can't find anything that goes through 2004. Wasn't it 2002 or 2003 that seven of the top ten in the qinston cup were Fords? I don't pay much attention to NASCAR but I'm pretty certain that Ford rules that game too.

"Entering the 2004 NASCAR season, Ford has amassed 546 all-time series wins, compared to 526 for Chevrolet, 179 for Dodge and 155 for Pontiac. While those may only be numbers to some, there are some rather impressive achievements that come along with that many victories. "

From Ford's website... Found via a google link.

thank you, drive through : ).

Who won the speed channel's Muscle car shootout?

Didn't GM have like three entries? Ford still won, and won w/o using their "assumed" all time bestest muscle car, the GT-500KR. I believe the GT-350R was the one that took home the cup.

m1 that link just proved my point. ford won 13 manufactors champoinships from 1949 to 2000. and chevy has won that many just since 1983

I was looking at the number of wins... I could care less what second place does or how many points they bring to the party. I guess that's more of an F1 mentality though where there are only two cars per manufacturer.

The original statement was "First" on race day. Not "First, third, fourth, seventh through ninth and twenty eighth" on race day.

Q. Who has the best history of being "First" on race day?
A. Ford.

In any case... How does that prove your point?

The last Ford championship was 2003.
FORD has the most wins in NASCAR (unless Chevy got 20 more wins in the 04 season than Ford did).

Lemme go check...

Sheesh... Found out Ford won the '04 season as well.

Revise my last post to read something like...

The last Ford championship was 2004 in a stunning (or as stunning as NASCAR gets anyway) repeat championship after the 2003 title was claimed by Ford.
FORD has the most wins in NASCAR (unless Chevy got 20 more wins in the 04 season than Ford did).

Still looking to see if Chevy by some miracle got >20 wins more than FORD and still lost the championship (which would point to the fact that they had a good driver or two as opposed to a good car).

Sure, when you break it down into parts you can make it look good for either manufacturer... Lets just look at the whole picture (which is a LOT bigger than NASCAR itself). Ford wins. <--- Notice the period

Do research on Baja, F1, Dirt tracks, paved ovals, Tran-AM, Rally... ALL of it. Ford Wins, and wins by a good long ways.

Those cars have as many stock Ford & Chevy parts as the V-Rod drag bike or the Buell drag do.

Chevy or Ford in name only. Havent seen any 2 door Taurus's running around the highways...hmm a conscession from Nascar just to allow them to race?

Mr. Bringdown strikes again!

"chevy won twice as many this season as ford"

And still lost the championship. I'm a race fan, I have been since I can remember. That tells me that Chevy had good drivers, Ford has a good car. Look at the toal number of Top Tens... I think you'll find that Ford JUST eeks out a greater than 2:1 margin in top tens. I still say focus on the wins. Everyone that didn't win is only there to help the winner win, no matter what team they are on.

BTW... They only got 11 more wins, so Ford is still ahead by 9...

How about rear wheel drive Monte Carlos?
Or Dodge, whatever model their race car is supposed to be.

You are right about the amount of parts they share with cars we could buy.

Hey Dave, im on your side I like Fords...although I did stray to the dark side & buy a Chevy this time

I would prefer it if the racing was actually more like "stock" cars. I mean how does an Intrepid, a Monte Carlo & a Taurus all end up looking exactly the same in Nascar? Pull off the paint & decals & they all look the same, thats BS, make them look like the production cars. If the car has 4 doors than race 4 doors. Go nutz on the motor & suspension but leave the body panels, interior, etc looking like the actual car.

Bragging about how superior Ford or Chevy is in nascar & thats why you bought your Focus, makes as much sense as buying an XB because the S&S motored one is faster than greased $hit.

They have nothing, nada, zero, zilch, to do with the real world & what we buy. That doesnt mean we dont learn a few tricks which trickle down to consumers over the eons though.

John Force runs top fuel funnycar in the NHRA & he is the man to beat & has been for 13-14 years. Used to run oldsmobiles & now its Mustang...same Hemi motor though. And the body styles look the same too, just different headlight & tailight stickers on it. Go Force go!! You are the man bringing fame, power & glory to all the Mustang owners....ya right.

As far as winning goes..it takes big bucks to field a car actually capable of winning & not simply showing up every week like quite a few of the racers do.

Jack Rousch has a fleet of teams & drivers & they share info, data, etc. Its much easier to get a winning car when you can try 5-6 different combos with 5-6 teams instead of a couple combos with just 1 team.

Thats why multi team owners are the ones winning all the races. Rousch, Hendricks, etc.

Evernham is a hell of a crew chief, but when he left Hendricks he lost the ability to get data & info from 3-4 teams. Hasnt exactly had the same success he did when teamed with Gordon has he?

Comes down to owners & sponsors putting up the bucks to field several teams. If Hendricks switched to Fords or Rousch went to Chevy they would be just as successful, sure there would be a little learning curve but they would quickly adapt & it would be business as usual. The brand of car doesnt have jack to do with it.

Well that Hemi has as much in common with Dodge as Johns Mustang bodied car does with a production Ford.
