I'm thinking of building my own luggage rack system, and want to tie into the tapped hole below the triple tail and inside the passenger peg bracket. All I have laying around the house is 1/4-20 hardware. The triple tail tapped hole is larger, and inside the passenger peg seems to be about that size but doesn't thread. I was wondering if anyone has a rack system that uses these points and knows the hardware required, before I go buy random hardware and play guess and check. | ||

I made two different kind of luggage racks for the XB S-type  They are both removable with luggage on it and without tools ,only a couple of safety pins to undo. Bolted the connecting pieces to the underside of the tailpiece and on the passenger peg mountings | ||

Thanks for the suggestions and the original luggage rack. Figured out the tapped hole on the inside of the passenger peg is 1/4-20, mine just needed a tap ran thru again to clean it out. I have the rack pretty much all tacked up, hope to have pics to share next week. I took the idea from the caribou racks, and went with a 1" square tube style. I am planning to use pelican 1440 cases, should be plenty of room. | ||

Personally I would go with soft bags. They don't get damaged in the event of a tip over (not a slide). I just bought a new factory set for my Aprilia, I pulled up on some grass and didn't notice the hole beneath my kickstand and over she went. I thought I had it stopped but couldn't hold it once it was on the hard bag it flopped over leaving the rear wheel up in the air and the hard bag carrying the weight. There are now some blemishes on the left bag. Nothing too noticeable but who wants that on new bags, right. I think I would have rather had soft bags on a nice set of pannier mounts. | ||

My Hepco hard cases sure saved my Uly when it went down. Yes, the case is scratched up, but still intact, and only lost handlebars and 1 turn signal on that side of the bike. Not a scratch on any frame/chassis parts. Wish I could have said the same for me... | ||

Finally got around to making my rack, which was held up by not being able to ride to work due to the forks being worked on. I basically took the idea of the old caribou racks, which looked incredibly simple. I didn't have time to completely tie the rack into the bike, and set up my hard luggage, but that will be done by my next trip. If anyone would like to copy this, I can provide the dimensions I used.  |
