Ok it's been almost 2 whole months since I have ridden which really sucks let me tell ya. But my Question is Has anyone beat my record yet?

34000 Miles in six months. How ever the bike is at Chandler's waiting for a third motor. It has been over a week and no word on what there going to do.

The first motor lost the cam bushings at 16000 Miles.
The second motor lasted 18000 Miles. It lost the rear rod bearing.

Damn Dale, your going to smoke me, It took me 14 months to do that, Looks like you'll be the King in no time at all.

My only question is how many miles do you ride a day/weekends.

I'm figuring with mileage like that you would have to be doing 8500 a month being that you've already gone trough two engine and now a third.

Thats like 283 miles a day.

Just bought a new Road King Custom. So the XB12S may not get as many miles on it. I could not stand not riding. Can hardly wait for the 06's.

So what is it exactly that makes an FL engine last longer than an XB engine? Assuming both bikes are rode by the same rider in approximately the same manner - relatively speaking.
Dale doesn't seem the type to be doing hard wheelies/stoppies, just seemed like a guy who likes to ride a lot. So I'm real curious what the failure factor/cause is on this one.

At least you seem to have the resources to get a second bike. What sort of business are you in, if you don't mind my asking. I'm thinking of changing career fields sometime after December.

one thing different is gearing: the XB runs down the road at a bit higher RPM. mine likes to cruise in the 3500-4000 range. FL is probably happier at around 2600. but a better question is what has been the failure mode on the XB motors? oil starvation? like to know what broke and why. thanks, dean.

Comin' up on 26000, one problem 7000 miles ago, stator went out. Not sure why.

Big Twin: low-RPM, low compression, fancy EFI to cool the rear cylinder.

XB: higher RPM, higher compression, fan to cool the rear cylinder.

high rpm, high compression engines are under much more stress than low rpm, low compression engines.

Yep "high mileage vs high performance". Speaking of the fan, I was told it is really to keep the gas cool. That big muffler under the engine has to heat the motor after shut down. I have had high speed oil fill problems. Not bad, but I thought I went through a lot of oil a few times. Seems it helps to let it idle a few minutes be for shut down. Then check the oil.

I only have 27500 had the bike right at two years 03' model bought in late sept of o2'had it on the Interstate or major highway no more than 500 miles the rest is all backroads.I think I've rode less this last summer. Just changed my belt out not to long ago,kept my old for a spare.This pass weekend I hit a rolling 2nd gear wheelie and my speedo and odometer stopped working I'll have it checked out this saturday its 1rst come 1rst serve!!!
