Well, being in storage for more than nine months, of COURSE I had to buy him some goodies to show I still care...

All black bodywork (stickers removed)
Zero gravity Double Bubble (dark smoked)
Free Spirits Carbon Fiber frame protectors (soon to have the frame pucks as well)...gotta remount the left one, it's not quite formed correctly and wants to pop off.
New velocity stack (the 'crappy' OEM one)
New airbox lower
XB12 airbox upper (drilling/cutting soon)
Drummer
New primary tensioner
The new City Screen cover to keep the Double Bubble from melting my dash! (and unfortunately I must have been a little careless and the tail end of it touched the header when I was covering it at work Tuesday morning...most of it's gone from the header, but I have a few nice holes in my $90 cover )

Bought but not yet done:
Metzeler M1s
Replace the fork oil...not looking forward to this (Glitch, or anyone else who's done this themselves, any tips?)
Replace the brake fluid and rear pads (again, tips appreciated, never bled brakes before)

I want new mirrors (hence the thread) and the Sato fork/swingarm bobbins...

Other bike-related stuff:
Tire changer
Wheel balancer
HJC CL14 Amazon helmet

...and on to the pics!

Some 'before' pictures...

This was at the end of the first evening...hey, I've got a g/f that I haven't seen in months, too, you know...the Drummer is mounted and the fluids changed, and the old airbox removed.

For anyone who remembers and was curious, this is what I had done to my original velocity stack compared to a stock one.

Cover your eyes, you dirty pervert!

...that last one frightens me...

...and this one frightened my g/f!

Front end's done...

...and everything but the chin spoiler. I needed something to connect the three pieces. Ended up getting some black hex head bolts.

ALL DONE! He's 'dead sexy' according to my significant other.

Runs great, started right up after all that time, though he wasn't too happy for the first 30-45 seconds until the oil started flowing again. I think the primary's still a tad loose and (as mentioned) I need to do the forks and brake fluid still...but I'M RIDIN' AGAIN!

WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!

...this is a happy garage!

I'll see if I can get a pic of Shred's bike.
He's got a 9R also, his is white.
He's put the black heel guards on and the new black City Cross wheels. Looks real nice.

Nah, the Drummer and header (a new one, mines been dented since the last time I was in NC) are getting ceramic coated red.

...that left side carbon fiber thing is seriously pissing me off...I'm afraid I'm gonna break the damned thing in half trying to get it back off. I'll have to take some goo gone or something similar to it in earnest tomorrow to get it off and reset it.

That is *Sweeeeet* - darn it. Now I have to try justifying about $600 for parts for a bike I haven't even ridden yet. Hmmm.

ohhh - and now we can get black wheels too ...

Thanks for the pictures.

I'm afraid I'm gonna break the damned thing in half trying to get it back off.
Had to take one of mine off as well.
Took some dental floss and after some patience and about 500 yards of the stuff, success.
I'll do a write up about doin' the forks.
But the main trick for me was suspending the bike.
Didn't have a lift at the time.
Just went by the book really is all I did.

Looks really nice, but what is the City Screen cover you are referring to? I want a taller shield since I ride to work often, but have read about what the double bubble screen can do to the dash.

It's Buell's new cover for the XBs. Only covers the upper part of the bike.

Just be REAL careful putting it on when the bike's still hot, I learned that lesson the hard way. And since I'm such a damned perfectionist I'm gonna have to buy a new one! LOL

The crap on the header doesn't really bother me since I still haven't replaced these since Deal's Gap:

You know, some good strong fishing line would probably work better than floss...gonna have to try that. I've got a nice crack in it along the top at the flat part of the frame now...GRR! It almost seems like they made them the SAME size as the frame instead of slightly larger. Ah, well. It's really small, and I think I want to paint them black anyways. I don't particularly like the carbon fiber weave along side all the smooth silver and black.

Oh, Leeaw, the Double Bubble makes the cover a tad tight, which is why I don't cover the rear signals with it. Works great though, and I don't have to worry about a melted dash. It also crushes small enough to easily fit in the Buell tailbag.

Look killer! I'm a real fan of the black. I think you should do the headers black as well.

Keep posting pics!

As glitch said. Shred just put the cityx wheels on his 9r. Looks sick!

You know, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of black headers as well...then I could just buy the black wheels instead of getting mine powder coated and have two sets of wheels also!

Chaser,

I was planning on keeping them to swap out if I'm going to do something 'high risk' like a track day (hell, driving in Michigan traffic is 'high risk' for that matter, but I may be willing to part with them for the right price. If you're seriously interested, make me an offer and we'll see. Since you're planning on painting them the minor cosmetic problems with them don't matter (just scuffs and rubs).

Darth, I keep popping back as I really like the way the black looks!

I would also like to see a pic of Shred's bike. I too am getting tired of the dirty stock rims.

I'll put some more up after I wash and wax it tomorrow...LOL I merely thought about it today and POOF! - instant rain. It needs a good cleaning to get rid of the last of the sticker residue and the cement dust (they're redoing the parking lot at work...grr...)

I spent all day cleaning the garage. Literally top to bottomw, back to front. Rearranged it, too. The Dynamic Duo needed a clean stable!

Eh? Just a backup, no plans. It's just a race can, but it's had the tips squared and been ceramic-coated.

Glitch, where's that e-mail?

Got it washed an waxed...the pictures do NOT do it justice. This thing GLEAMS. I washed the Blast right after it, and of course it rained within 5 minutes of toweling it dry. -=sigh=-

...yeah, definitely need a black header and the black heel guards. The frame and swingarm I think will always stay silver, but I'll paint the carbon fiber black, too, so it'll just be peeking out from behind it.

He was going to paint the outer rim (lip I guess) orange to match the BUELL on the tank. But I think it's best the way it is.

Daves is the man! Go ahead give another limb or two

Oh and check your e-mail.

Darth,

How does the double bubble compare to the stock shield? That's about the most of what my wife will let me get now since I will be purchasing a firearm soon.

Also, do you get any surface rust on the rim of your wheel bearings? I am and it looks like crap.

The double bubble's several inches taller than the stock shield, and as such affords more wind protection. The line it follows is the same as the fairing nose, whereas the stock shield continues to curve. Sitting up on the freeway the wind hits me mid-helmet now instead of dead in the chest, and I can tuck myself completely behind it (I'm a little guy, though). All around improvement in both form and function as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, my surface of my bearings are rusting as well. They're steel, not much you can do about it. You don't really need to worry about it unless the bearings themselves are rusted!
