Thinking about changing out the back end of my XB9S to use the XB9R. Any ideas if this is possible or has been tried? It just seems like there is more room on the R seat for an additional person. Any thoughts? Hattrick 2003 XB9S Yellow | ||

That is what I wanted to do, too. The only thing that is hindering me is the relocation of all of the electronics and other tidbits under the seat pan of my S. If anyone has successfully performed this, I would like to know how the relocations were done. I think it looks tough like that. Rich  | ||

I've put the R tail on an S and it looks real good...It's pretty easy as far as that goes... | ||

So Kevin, do you have any pics? I didn't think there would be that much to move. Seems the R has plenty of room. Is it just a matter of mounting everything? Could you add some details? Did you get to keep the rear seat/trunk, or did that end up holding some of the parts? Sorry for all the questions. But, I gotta know. | ||

The one I changed looks just like the picture above except in yellow...basically when you put the R subframe and the splash panel in it will be self explanitory where the components will fit...had to cut a hole in the lower splash panel for the harness to come through at the front..battery fits good,back angle sensor fits good, had to lengthen the taillight wires a little,ecm will fit in the toolbox area and I cut a few mounting tabs off the new subframe , and made a new mounting bracket for the rear brake reservoir and didn't change the location from where it was previously...hope this helps...you can call or e-mail me anytime, its not a bother!!!KEVIN | ||

Here's mine... Haven't got brackets sorted yet so all the electrics are temporarily packed in high density foam... Once again, plenty of room... only had to extend the 3 tail lamp wires... A friend of mine is a photography student...    | ||

That shouldn't change the riding position...seat heights are the same, though I suppose you could scoot back farther on the R seat than the S. Looks nice! I'm happy to hear that it's not as difficult as it looks at first pass. We'll see a rash of them now, I'm sure. | ||

trench..can you give a list of parts needed to convert the xb/s to xb/r tail section. and cost of parts subframe, body panel, etc..??? since I added the front fairing to My xb/s, I would like to do the tail section at some point. thank you  | ||

There always seems to be some rear subframes, tail sections, and seats on e-bay at any given time. I've wondered about the switch since I bought my bike a year ago, but I think the tail piece like Gonen60's is the route I'll take. Too much work the other way for the mechanically inept like me! | ||

Buying the tail kit from American Sport Bike seems to be much easier, no? Add a Corbin seat and you are good to go and get a great seat to boot. Just my opinion! | ||

Hey Gone, I cheated somewhat, picked up the rear subframe for nought along with some white R plastics off a crashed one. The idea was to test it all out at no cost and make sure I could do it. Turns out the subframe was straight. Lucky me. Some of the dry run pic's    In Aus dollars as follows as correct as I know... * Subframe $1490 * Rear plastic $340 * Seats (both) $350ish Indicators, tail lamp, pillion pegs, battery cables are all same •••• model. Not sure on the following * Latch cable for the seat (longer than S) * Undertray plastic (got mine for nought) * Rear shock resoviour mount bracket I would not have done it if not for the dealer looking after me on this one. Just the price of the subframe alone was too prohibitive. But since I go the subframe for nothing and everything else at the right price... One other mod, black chin section...  | ||

BTW, I did end up buying factory black plastic. For the price of one new, I couldn't justify painting the white one since it was stretched and scratched. | ||
