I received my '03 XB9 on Sunday at 4 pm. Best day for me in a long time. I had a separation in June, health issues, and finally things were getting back together for me....then as I pulled out of my driveway, go 100 yds, I slipped on some salt/sand and broke my leg. I'm not giving up. I can't wait to get back on her. I'm posting from my hospital bed, and should have surgery in a few hours. PS- Anybody know where I can get a shifter?

Heal up soon. On a positive note, you won't be trying to ride for the rest of this winter. Cold tires, salt, and sand are not your friends. Mine is under a cover in the garage. I try to not even look at it, for fear of the withdrawal symptoms. |

if its cold enough for there to be salt on the road, then its cold enough for me to drive the cager. the worst part will be having a new bike and not being able to ride. good luck bro |

I have a yellow 03 xb 9. I tend to dump it on my lawn in the summer. I changed the color and now I don't fall. Your results may vary. |

looks to me like you're in good spirits. do not be afraid of it. you bike didn't try to kill you, only show you that the DOT was wanting you to wait until spring. heal fast and get back on her. good things take time. get well soon brother. ps, yellow is the fastest and safest color Phwx2. maybe YOU were the unlucky one. just throwing that out there...

Dhays1775, A broken leg won't stop me! I made my nurse keep the Buell keys out last night just so I could look at them when i wanted to. I won't ever give up. My riding buddies came tonight to bring me sushi and to take the bike to my buds shop, so I can fix the shifter and remove the exhaust so I can have them jet-coated. I'm down for 6-8 weeks...ugh |

You could install an air-shifter. Then you wouldn't need your left leg. You could prop it up, somewhere... 6-8 weeks. That's not as long as it sounds. |

Sorry to hear of your woes. 6-8 weeks isn't bad, especially this time of year. I broke my leg last May (non-motorcycle related)...that put a terrible hole in my riding season! |

6 or 8 weeks! Awesome! It shows that you're still young enough to heal quickly. I broke my hand, and after 10 weeks the cast finally came off. The doc said, "well it's not as far along as we'd like..." It's because the older you get the slower you heal. |

I'm 31, and the Doc told me I had a nasty break...it may be extended to 12 weeks...FML. My buddies are taking my bike to his shop so I can drop the headers and get them ceramic coated and wrapped |

I thought the heat was mainly a Ulysses problem?

My 12R gets pretty damn hot sometimes. There have been days where I ride with my right leg hanging out, like I'm in GP and there's a turn coming up. I'm all for the coating, I'm just to lazy to pull the header off. |

Honestly IMHO it's a bit of over kill, and quite possibly a waste of money. I doubt you'd see a difference between a wrapped & coated header vs a wrapped header. Way to step up Bartimus! |

HAHA! Thanks guys! I think I'll take my chance with my murdercycle. I've rode a CityX on a warm day, and it cooked my leg. When me and my buddies go on rides, we're gone for the whole day, not just bar to bar like the Harley guys |

Wait..you rode 100 yards and burned your ass on the pipes? |

No I think he rode a city cross before he purchased his bike and it was hot and the basis of his decision for covering his pipes. Personally I like the polished pipe look, it seems to help a little with heat but not a lot (pipes are slightly cooler but radiation is about the same, once moving is when the difference is felt. They seem to retain less heat and feel cooler on the highway, stop and go traffic is still hot). I cut the heat down with full leg armor, hard plastic from ankle to the top of my knee. Add Odie heat barriers and it's cool riding all summer long. |

I am sooo glad my broken leg was not due to pidley sand I was stunting and had a compound tib-fib on my right leg nasty break got 10 screws 2 plates and a rod through my tib. I was down for about 6 months but i was riding as soon as the doc gave the ok to walk with a cane. I was riding with my fracture boot on and all carrying my cane on the handlebars |

To Bueller83, I know a guy who did the same and broke his leg again! ,then it was a bigger problem because the bones did not grow together. It cost him two years and a lot of bone and skin transplants. he is still limping and can't walk long distances! |

Delta is correct, I rode one last year, and it got hot. What's Odie heat barriers? |
