Two things: 1) people on this site are very willing to help fellow buellers in need of mechanical advice, but if you're at the rev-limiter more than 4/5ths of the time, you're abusing the bike and aren't in need of mechanical advice but need a few riding lessons. You're creating your own problems. 2) I know how to check the level and this should be done periodically and at least every 5k miles buy you need to buy a service manual, you'll need it for sure. |

RTFM Primary chain needs to be tightened when it's too loose. Check every time you change fluid. If you're on the rev limit that often, it's time to look at getting a bench motor and build it up. Constantly hitting the Rev limit tears up the bottom end. More so on the pre-08 motors. |

Pull the clutch inspection cover with the bike level and upright...oil should be to the bottom of the clutch spring. Having a service manual helps a lot.. And yup...a lot of us are "old"...the sticky on the back of my drag bike read "old age and deception beats youth and enthusiasm...every time".... Come ride with us...we are slow and old and wrinkled up, take our Geritol and eat prunes... |

Yes, but also over 16. The Buell community as a whole (not just BadWeb) is a responsible community- we ride hard, but smart. We wear our gear. We take care of our equipment. There is literally no need for a bike to spend 4/5 of its time at the rev limit...it makes no sense, and if yours is, well "you're doing it wrong". In regard to your questions (here's where you ought to be glad we are over 16...I'll still answer your questions after being insulted): 1) You really do need the manual linked to above. By far the best $60 you will ever spend on your Buell. It details all the answers to your questions. 2) As an example, here is a scan of the page that shows the proper oil level (with the bike level, on a rear stand): 3) As another example, here is the proper method for setting primary chain tension, check it every 5,000 miles: Now go buy that manual! |

Better yet sell the bike. I hate knowing a buell's being torn to shit because an idiot can't lift his left toe. Some of these guys are too mature to say it, but not me: I hope your unemployment runs dry and you sell the Buell for a bus pass. Krueger, 25 (Message edited by froggy on July 20, 2010) |

The average Buell owner is about 34 years old according to an unscientific survey I did a while back. Either treat fellow members with respect, or get out. You were given plenty of great advice. I recommend you take it, or go plow into a brick wall and get it over with. |

Some of us old farts are still racing at the expert level ON AVERAGE 4 times each and every month. ... and were racing when your brothers and sisters were nothing more than a wet spot on the sheets. |

Froggy/Andy/Krueger - your responses assure me this board is still in good shape and worth sticking with (especially after reading that I cannot get new frame pucks for my Uly already). I would kindly ask Chit own to remove the key, and step away from the Buell. They are a limited number species now, so no need to have one wrecked needlessly. Most on this board do not ride into town simply so others will notice us (per his profile). Sincerely, "42 and wiser than you" |

Kind of a sad statement in my view. He lives in the next town over from mine too. I hope I don't run into this kid too often. |

Too bad you arent around my neck of the woods. Id take that offer in a second. The above posts come from many yrs experience as well as a few that have come on here and talked about how fast they are and so on. Last guy talked major shit and ended up roadkill a few weeks later. People here give advise as preventative maintenance Give the advise a try, if it doesnt work for you at least you can say you tried it. Now the redline thing can be fixed with a simple chain conversion and sprocket changes. |

I thought the bike buyers were only harassing the bike owners on the 1125 board. Top speed on 2 wheels (mph): 165.....148 on xb12scg Was that 148 with a jap bike towing you? |

Then why ask? I do appreciate your penchant for speed and power, every good team has a young daredevil lusting for speed. But every good team also has a geezer who knows the machine , inside and out. My advice to you is this: Tone it down on this forum, there is too much to be gained here in performance and maintenance. No need to burn bridges and piss everyone off. No one wins an internet race. Oh,one more thing, brush up on your English writing skills. |

and give to ••••• about ur guys experience on a bike and ur advice Then why ask? iv been riding for 2 years and prolly know as much of u geezers riding for 20 years... Well, I'm 34, and I've been riding for 18 of those. Unless your a pro rider, I seriously doubt that. In all seriousness, your on the fast track to getting booted. If your really that good, how come nobody else is doing any bragging for you? If your really that good, everyone else will brag for you. You wouldn't have to say a thing. Keep bouncin the rev limiter. Dont ask me for advice on how to rebuild your motor. Your bike can't physically do 145. I own an XB12, and I know this from experience. 145mph?? It sounds to me like he wears one of those helmet mohawks - those things add about 10rwhp and could easily put him at 150mph |

The stock gearing of the xb12 will not allow you to hit 148 period, sorry to upset you. It's a simple fact thats what everyone is telling you. You are rapidly burning the bridge to the largest collection of Buell knowledge available to you, If i were you i'd apologize to everyone and put down the book of matches! |

When you pull the larger of the two covers, you can see the bottom of the clutch basket. The oil level should be just touching the ring gear with the bike UPRIGHT on two wheels. Not on the kickstand. You may need a buddy to hold the bike while you look. If you drain the primary to change the fluid, it will take just about a quart on the refill. Get that service manual. It will tell you everything right down to nuts and bolts. Happy riding! |
