Iv changed this thing out 3 times my self. The dealership did it twice under warrenty. Two pieces of thin metal bolted down, with the horn bolted on the other end. Sounds simple but I cant get these things to stop cracking in half. Vibration I guess? Does it have to be flimzy. Can I use a strip of angle iron or something. All the modern breakthroughs in science and technology and I cant keep my stupid horn from falling off. Sort of like my rear view mirror in my truck. I'm going to weld it to the top of the cab,if it falls off again. O well I'm done venting now. Do they sell and after market repair or should I just fabricate something up? 2007 XB12ss Refive | ||

bolt the horn without that metal bracket only with the metal support from the horn itself  | ||

[LONG] Buell engineers forgot to run a modal simulation of that horn+bracket combo. It looks like the engine produces a frequency that is a perfect match for the resonance of the horn+bracket combo. Depending on the frequency sweep of the V2, in order to fix that you need to increase the stiffness of the bracket and/or lower the mass of the horn to move the natural frequency of the assembly above the resonance. Most likely the horn is not going on a diet, so increase the stiffness of the bracket. I do not recommend stiffening gussets, as if placed in the wrong location they can act as a stress riser. Just try to add one or two more layers of steel plates on top of the existing bracket. | ||

i havent broken a single one on any of my buells. oh wait i dont have a horn on any of them... | ||

I had to move mine, to fit a hid setup in behind my screen, its takes up way less room, sounds the same, and doesnt interfere with anything  | ||

all I did was remove the mounting bracket thing, and screw it in the hole that the bracket was in, its actually a bit more secure now, they didn't really engineer the horn bracket that well, might have been done poorly to comply with something, but its better without the chunk of metal bracket , which causes it to take up most of the area behind the screen, and shake like hell. | ||
