How much nitrous can you safely run through an xb12 engine? 15-20 shot?

I already have a chain drive so im not to worried about that.

How do we go about tapping in for fuel? Fuel pump issues at all?

If i have about 10k on the bike now, xb9 with an xb12 engine.

I looked up some of norices posts but most are back from '06, Im sure he knows a lot more about it now then back then.

Anyone have any dyno numbers or track times? I learned to ride on jap bikes and big cube harleys. really miss that extra power. Sucks when im with all my buddies and when they open it up on it on the highway they leave me way in the dust.

I can imagine the torque of the buell plus a small shot of nitrous it would give it that big cube V2 torque and that higher rpm I4 power. Best of both worlds or am I dreaming?

Call Wes at Cycle Rama and see what he thinks...I have a TON of nitrous experience (with imports, not Buell/HD) you mike also try PMing FiremanJim...he has experience at Bonneville with nitrous.

The 2008 and later motors have the bigger bottom end and MIGHT survive better but face it, these machines are designed for HANDLING, not POWER.

Nitrous is going to open up a HUGE can of worms (and maybe open up a piston or two)

Nitrous will not blow up your motor....it will simply point out the weak parts ; )

Thats a good idea! Get an 1125R and if thats not enough then get Nitrous. The 1125 will handle the Nitrous.

nitrous wont get your bike going fast enough to keep up with a serious jap big four in a straight line, our pushrod engines rev out at 7k, jap fours go 11k, and way upwards, its just math from there, Buells are quite a bit better at a lot of things, imo, but drag races, and roll ons in a straight line, are not some of them.
(I know some people go insane speeds at the drags on Buell based bikes, and those bikes a) will blow up at any given moment, b)probably should not be driven more than a 1/4 mile or so at one time. c) still will have more than a handful against a jap 4 costing 1/3 as much to build.

nitrous wont get your bike going fast enough to keep up with a serious jap big four in a straight line,

nope could never happen... ugh...

buells are great at out running inlines. up to say 100 mph in stock form. you have no need for nitrous to accomplish that. to pull them up to an xb redline. sure, because that last bit takes awhile and they are just getting into a good stride about the time you are running out of oomph.

i had guys on inlines come over and accuse me of running the bottles down the front straight of road america because id come past them. i had to pull the seat off and show them the lines were unhooked and ask them if theyd like to try again. can you say not happy! lol.

but i do have to say we would come out of the corner about the same time but i get a great run at the last turn before the straight so that helped alot.

you will never top end run an inline on an xb. its not possiable without alot of work and gearing changes. you just have to know were that straight line run needs to end lol.

and an extra 50 horse does alot if you can keep the rubber side down

I ride with a diverse group of bikes, one friend has a R1, its fast as hell, but on the street its abrupt, very twitchy, and generally unsettling, on twisty backroads. Another friend has a ZX10, its a straight line rocket, but its a heavy handling hulk, and the motor can overide most of the front brake, it also likes to go wide in tight turns. We ride the Catskills now and then. They play a little on the interstate, on the way to the mountains, ( wheelies out of a toll booth, etc.) both of them roll on like a guided missle.
When we get to the mountain twisties, I am relaxed, lovin it, I sometimes brake mid turn, (they cannot do that). If I hit a rock in the road, or a crack, it doesnt change my line much, if the R1 hits a rock, it can be violent, and he cant brake mid turn, and the ZX10 chirps and chatters from braking, and downshifts before a turn, so he can't go that fast anyway. The point is this is where my XB owns them, no mods to thier bikes will change that, and the ZX10 would smoke my bike in a straight run, nitrous or no nitrous. In another 10 yrs. r+d there could be a jap bike as good as the XB, but for now, they will have to settle for being better on a straight smooth road, (one trick pony).

Not to be misunderstood, but you really ought to do all your setting up for a turn before you start to turn.
You should never brake mid turn, that's a sure sign you're going to fast entering the turn.
With regards to your friends, it's not their bike that's having the hard time in the twisties.

Dave.... look at my name..., were talkin decreasing radius turns , on roads we havent been on before, and sorry but... yes.. it is the bikes that have a hard time in the twisties imo, compared to the XB, not on a race track, where they would eat me for breakfast, but on the road, where conditions are more unpredictable, I'm an over the hill racer, who never correctly learned to scrub enough inertia on turn entry... but I'm still fun to watch, lol.

All the more reason to not ride like you described.

You have your opinion, and I have mine.
That's cool, in no way was it to be considered a dig at you or your friends.
Just an observation based on what you wrote.

Oh and by the way...
What the hell is this "over the hill"?
Over what hill?
Besides, doesn't that mean that we're picking up speed?

hehe, over the hill means i'm 54, and haven't got a left foot anymore, due to a lady, cell phone, Chevy Tahoe, and her need to talk, and make a u turn into me, over a double yellow line,
My 2 buddies, never raced, both are decent riders, we dont race thru the backroads, but we do sometimes move at a good pace, and (imo), the Buell is the best of the three by a lot on the backroads, if it wasnt, having no loyalties, I would ride a different bike.

Oh I agree the XB bikes are by far the better street bike.
But, the newer R1s are pretty awesome.
The "fact" that I-4s haven't any bottom end, isn't an issue any longer.
Yes we definitely have the drive out of the corners, and a properly set up suspension makes for embarrassment to a lot of I-4 riders.
But one thing I have learned over the years is, it ain't the arrow, or the bow, it's the Indian.
Sorry to hear about the accident.
I say accident, because I can't think of another word for attempted murder with a motor vehicle.
That truly sucks ass.

That was near 2 yrs ago, I'm over it, the only thing affected as far as riding, is I have a heel toe shifter on my Xb, and I do not ride dirt anymore, which is a good thing at this point in life anyhow.
I rode my friends R1, and I have to agree, its awesome, even from the bottom, but it is scarey twitchy, its an 03 I think.

Sorry but I just have to strongly disagree with your assessment of the ZX10.

And what you refer to as "twitchy", I call "precision".

I got used to the slow throttle response on the XB too... it was a bit of a transition going back to a Kawasaki. When first I rolled the throttle back, I was like "what the hell is this?"

I'm quite used to it now : )

I can attest that a ZX10 of recent vintage doesn't transition anywhere near as fast as my XB did. I've ridden both.
