My 2008 XB12Ss makes the classic sputtering at low RPMs. I've learned to live with it, but browsing through the forum this morning I'm seeing people talk about re-flashing their ECM with the 2010 flash (not re-mapping, but re-flashing with the factory code).

In trying to learn more, most people talk about re-mapping the ECM for various tuning reasons, and not so much about simply re-flashing it with the latest flash. The few I found said the 2010 flash on their 2008 bikes helped with heat issues & the fan, as well as smoothed out the stumbling quite a bit.

How prevalent is doing the reflash?

My bike's in the shop right now waiting on an exhaust valve actuator. Since the warranty was up this past Sunday and I just sneaked it in a day before to get the actuator replaced due to lost performance, stalling, erratic stumbling, etc., I wonder if I should request that they reflash it at the same time?

Thoughts?

I did, the bike changed in a good way, no sputtering, the fan works while you are moving so colder air goes to back there, take off is smooth, etc. Read if you like the last part of my posting.

My 08 is very smooth at low RPMs. It only has the slightest hint of hesitation once warm. It was much worse when new but improved dramatically when I had it flashed with the latest pre-comfort kit flash.

I had the latest flash installed a couple weeks ago and I am very happy with it.

I would go ahead with the latest flash and see if it helps on the low end.

Thanks guys. I called the dealership and asked that they do the 2010 ECM re-flash while the bike's in there.

Some dealers will charge for the reflash, some won't! Charge is usually 1/2 shop hour....
YMMV

Picked my bike up today. No charge for the ECM re-flash since it was in for a warranty fix at the time (on the very last day of my warranty...lol).

Definitely can tell the difference with the new fan cycle. So far, seems to stay a bit cooler. They did miss doing the TPS reset after the re-flash, so it ran like crap all the way home. Did the TPS reset myself and fixed her right up.

It's all good!
