Anybody have some tricks of the trade to get it back on? I knew it was going to be a bitch to strap back on when I took it off. I just put the entire tail back on and the damn strap is holding me up.

I use long skinny needle nose pliers to push (stretch) the strap down and a long skinny screw driver to coax the metal loop end onto the catch.

It is a PITA but thankfully it isn't needed to be done often.

Curse and pull for all your worth LOL.

I despise putting that thing on. Last time I was at the dealer, THEY didn't even put it back on.

Seriously, I've got tooth pick arms, I use one hand to grab mid strap and pull for all it's worth, with the other hand I guide and just angle either the top or bottom edge on, then adjust it once it's there.

I always tell myself at least I know it's not going anywhere.

It might be a PITA - I'd bet you could rig up a different cinch-type steel strap... or just dust off your unused profanity and GIT ER DONE. (or those long-nosed pliers)

Smaller, as in less weight too?
Care to share the part number?

Coming soon to a EBR near you. (I hope) : )

I got a non-EBR version a little over a year ago, half the size, weighs a little over 2lbs vs about 12lbs for the stock one.

I got it from Josh, www.speedcell.org
It was only $375.

Note: There is a knockoff site (speed-cell.com) selling an inferior version at a higher price.

It is actually not hard at all if you use the right technique.. Stretch the crap out of it with one hand, then pinch it hard against the battery near the corner where it goes down to the bracket with the other hand, which leaves a fair amount of slack that is pretty easy to hook back on.

If you try to stretch it and hold it with one hand and hook it with the other, your fingers on the underside take too much of the slack. The key is to push it hard against the battery to hold that slack.

Works for me, anyway.

Thanks!

You're going to call its_a_buell's egotistical friend? I'd try that suggestion first-sounds easiest.

In the 16 months I've had my XB-S, I've never had this strap attached.
